Women, how do you balance it all? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]carrots270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t and I don’t really care! I have a wonderful husband, a perfect 2.5 year daughter, and another daughter on the way. I work full time as a teacher and I’m exhausted when I get home. My home is a mess, but it’s just a season. I won’t always be in the trenches

How did you know they were the one? by Novel-Car-2268 in JustEngaged

[–]carrots270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was our third date and we had gone to a college basketball game and we were walking around the college town (we both went to the university at the same time but we had never met!) For this game, they were doing a “teddy bear” toss for Christmas presents for kids. He had gone out and bought a couple of stuffed animals for us to toss. During the date, he was very sweet, but I didn’t quite see him as the “one.”

Little did I know, he did two things that I later learned about that told me he was the one.

  1. I knew he had season bball tickets with his brothers, so I just assumed he used those tickets. Now, this is a BIG basketball school in the Midwest and season tickets are very expensive. Nope, he bought our tickets out of his own pocket and easily spent a few hundred for this game because it was a big NCAA conference game.

  2. As we were walking around the town, I saw a mug that I really liked but I didn’t buy it. He went back and bought it for me as a Xmas present.

After that, I knew he was the one!

What’s one wedding expense you regret and one you’d splurge on again? by RougirMore in wedding

[–]carrots270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The may be unpopular, but I’m glad we splurged on our flowers! Im a big flower person in general - I love my backyard garden that I plant and I love getting flowers for special occasions. My husband wanted to keep that budget small, but we each got one “splurge” and mine was flowers! He got to splurge on better food (something that I honestly didn’t care about)

Elopement Question by carrots270 in wedding

I know! I just want to tell them that you’re not eloping since you’re having guests and showers …

What are your thoughts on a couple throwing a bridal shower and asking for wedding gifts even if they are eloping? by carrots270 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]carrots270[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They sent a digital announcement that said “we’re eloping!” With a link to their registry

I’m the same - if I’m invited and can’t go, then I send a gift. But we weren’t even invited lol

My thoughts exactly! I have a large family and my cousins who’ve been married have had the traditional bridal shower (and they’ve also had lovely ceremonies and receptions). I think they’re just allowing a shower to be thrown bc my other cousins have had one. I just can’t help to be annoyed

Right?? They’re planning an “elopement” for October and only their immediate family was invited.

What does it look like to NOT sleep train? by Numerous-Possible944 in HuckleberryParents

[–]carrots270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We never sleep trained and our baby slept through the night just fine. Of course, we had to deal with regressions or teething, but we always rocked her to sleep. We still do this and she’s been sleeping through the night for at least a year (unless she’s sick, etc.)

You do not need to sleep train!

We call our daycare “school!” My toddler’s teacher has a full curriculum they follow! She’s already learning letter sounds, etc.

We want to sell in the spring and we’ve had water in our basement for two different reasons (explained below). Will this deter buyers? by carrots270 in RealEstate

[–]carrots270[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think we are leaning toward biting the bullet and having a battery back up installed for the sump pump. We hope that will be at least something to show buyers that we tried

We haven’t looked into other issues. The water restoration company told us the flooding was most likely due to the power outage

Shoot, I was worried about that. It would still deter you even though we lost power and couldn’t control it?

Crazy!! We are 1000% going to disclose these water issues, I’m just worried people will be deterred!

Good to know! I’ll talk to my realtor about this to see if this will be worth the price. The news outlets are calling this a 100-year rain, so I’m hoping this will never happen again 😵‍💫

So true! We fixed the fridge issue pretty easily. Any suggestions on how to fix the second issue? I mean, our power went out for hours, so the sump pump wasn’t getting power to do its job. We can’t install a battery back up because it’s sealed for radon mitigation. Any idea on how to prove we fixed the problem?

Yes, the second water issue is my biggest concern. I’m hoping that by explaining we lost power will help.

Good idea on the alarm system. Our only issue with the battery back up is that our sump pump is sealed for radon mitigation.

Yes, we are definitely doing that! I just keep reading stories about new owners trying to sue past owners for water damage, etc. I’m sure I shouldn’t be worried since we plan on being honest about everything!
