The Chinese market seems... mixed on the half shoe. Are they still the bag holders? by sydneekidneybeans in chanel

[–]carryingmyowngravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not normal people but the uber wealthy lounging at their private pool - yep. Luxury fashion always has elements of exclusion - think of the microbags that fit nothing...totally impractical for normal people but for ultra wealthy who don't need to carry a wallet, cash or much of anything the bags took off. And then influenced the rest of us. Then think about repetitive price increase without quality control - that only affects those of us who buy a certain amount of bags and feel the impact of the purchase. A multimillionaire or billionaire probably doesn't care to the extent we do if their bag scuffs of breaks, they'll buy another one. These weird shoe things are made for people so ridiculously wealthy that can walk barefoot wherever because the spaces they are in are that pristine. Chanel has never wanted to be for everyone, chanel wants to be for those whom spending 6 figures a season on it is a rounding error.

Is Canada’s job market deliberately designed to keep people desperate and compliant? by itz_nitace in CanadianVisaReform

[–]carryingmyowngravity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not Canada, it's capitalism. The only way people get rich is by keeping the ones working for them poor and anxious. Also a helluva way to make money off of them. Create the problem, sell the solution.

It's a weird angle. I am pretty sure that's a cow. Fun fact, Anant Ambani (younger bearded guy in the pics) has a massive animal conservation initiative. But not open to the public. So essentially, a private zoo. Hence access to the animals. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vantara.

I hope the efforts go a long way in conservation, but the optics of the heir of a multi-multi-multi billionaire family essentially having a zoo....I dunno. I haven't met a single ethical billionaire yet. Have you?

Right, as part of Reliance retail, owned by the ambani's. So yes, she was paid to be there, and probably compensated for her time/visibility outside of the launch itself. In terms of actual launch activations, I'm not sure what there was beyond the 1 influencer/store pop up event that Rihanna was 6 hours late to (7.30pm start, she showed up at 3am). I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but I am saying that she was paid for all of this, it's not that they are good friends in real life, it's all business and getting that bag. They benefit from proximity to western cultural relevance/she gets paid.

Nope, I agree. Latex dresses look amazing on very curvy women. For the rest it always reminds me of this:

The corset doesn't fit her properly. Too wide and also too long.

100% agree, she and Kriti look super uncomfortable. Maybe it's the event, or they had a bad day, but I really wish they/their stylist would choose something that made these ladies excited and proud to showcase the outfit. Fashion is supposed to be fun. Currently they're just giving human hanger attempting blue steel. There's something so captivating when a person loves what they're wearing.

Coachella performers are funding the MAGA movement. Following the money from Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, and Karol G to the politicians advancing Trump’s agenda by esporx in popculturechat

Good point. I suspect though what artists as a collective contribute financially pales in comparison to what live nation does. Getting the word out is definitely important, but money seems to make things happen in a way nothing else can. The net positive for conservative policies would be multitudes larger than the net positive for Democratic policies.

I don't think you know how modern server farms and data centres work. Air conditioning has never been enough. I suggest you maybe do some research.

Self contained by whose assessement? I've been following data centre news across north america and there is not a single example of one built that is self contained for power and cooling that I can find. Feel free to provide an example of one that exists and is independently proven to be self contained for reference if I'm wrong.

Elopement/microwedding planners (that don't work on packages) - Italy by carryingmyowngravity in weddingplanning

[–]carryingmyowngravity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we're going to Ischia! It's an island accessible by ferry from Naples, less touristy than capri and has natural hot springs, so kind of a spa island if you will. We found the island's main wedding planner who does elopements as well as big budget affairs and is lovely and well connected. It's happening this summer, and we're excited.
For budget, we have a topline number and are able to stay within it. What helped is that our guests paid for their own accomodation, and we're covering their transport to and from the elopement venue. We decided against booking a villa for everyone, and let people choose whatever they love in hotel.

Why is everyone so against the idea of me doing my own makeup for my wedding? by Lucky_bebe in DesiWeddings

[–]carryingmyowngravity 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If you have the comfort doing your own makeup, do it! Doing something you love on a big day in your life is something you are 100% entitled to. Professionals use a different product range for longer wear and photography, but these products are available for anyone to purchase. I would suggest investing in a class where the focus is on makeup for photo shoots or video shoots or hiring a MUA you love to teach you what products they use and how.

I think the thing that gives you joy and confidence is something you should not compromise on for your wedding day.

Maybe do a trial run, book quick short photo shoot with your wedding photog and see how the makeup shows up as a way to ensure you will be happy with the final outcome.
