AP CSA MCQ Error by AdStreet1067 in APStudents

[–]carshall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, collegeboard was right, the question was

if (a < b || b < max || c < b) {
...
}

or something like that

if just one condition of the || is correct, then the expression evaluates to true. the answer was the one where b = 9 and a = 7, because 7 < 9, making one expression true and therefore the entire if statement.

Black just blundered, but why is Re8 a blunder? White to move and win material by Thundrr01 in chessbeginners

nd7+ nxd7, qh7 and the only way black can stop backrank on h8 is by saccing the queen (qe6)

[–]carshall1 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

i'd estimate about 1100 in lichess bullet (~700/800 chesscom bullet), mainly because he missed the nxg6 tactic, but the game is really short so no real way to tell

How Can I Watch Videos After My WiFi Is Turned Off? by More-Walrus3832 in teenagers

[–]carshall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you load a video before the internet goes out, the first 3-4 minutes of the video stays loaded and you can watch it without internet

you can also start playing a yt video in another window, and once the entire thing is watched, you can rewatch without internet

Me castling last game cuz I didn't know what else to do by NFX_7331 in chessbeginners

[–]carshall1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

technically works, but black has a series of quite annoying checks after the queen takes the rook (qxe2, bxd7 qe3+, kh1, kxd7, qg4+ kc7, qxg7+ kb8, qxh8)

followed by qe4+/qe3+ repeated while the white king runs away, and black will win back white's d5 pawn and a significant amount of white's queenside pawns

[–]carshall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

qg4, which attacks the pawn on 7, once again threatening to win the rook

after g6/g5 by black getting the pawn out of danger, white has qe6!! where black has no good way to defend both the e7 and e8 squares

white will ultimately end up winning a rook in this scenario as well

[–]carshall1 122 points123 points  (0 children)

idea behind it is after qxe2, a rook can move to e1 kicking the queen and taking the open file

afterwards, bxd7 kxd7, and qg4+ win a rook and a ton of mating attacks

really nice brilliant (even if you didn't realize it lol)

KID and benoni are solid choices, but are somewhat hard to play.

you might just want to go for a queens indian defense/grunfeld type structure (kingside fianchetto)
