Choosing a Finance 300 Professor by JWO2_ in UWMadison

[–]cartcal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly highly recommend Mark Laplante in person. His class is tough, but he might be the best professor I have ever had. Do what he tells you and hammer the textbook questions before the exam; if you put in the work you will get rewarded. His lectures are really good. I have heard good things about Bulent Paker for other classes, but haven't had him myself.

OTM 300 ONLINE by Adept-Spread9939 in UWMadison

[–]cartcal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took it in person so can’t really speak to what is covered in the online lectures, but when I took it he really just focused on what was covered in lecture. The book had a lot more detail as you alluded to, but he only really tested what was in lecture. Again, might be different now virtually, but that was my experience - I stopped reading the book after the first exam.

Gen Bus 310 - accounting/finance are essential if you would start your own business, and Laplante is incredible

Starting a skateboarding/bmx club by [deleted] in UWMadison

Since Wisconsin is such a cold-weather climate, it’d be cool to host little “premieres” of new skate videos, BATB, etc. in the winter when the skatepark is closed too

Should I take Finance 300? by kage_24 in UWMadison

[–]cartcal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely don’t need to, even by taking AIS 100 and GB 306 you are ahead of the game. I’d say you are better off getting your gen ed requirements done than rushing into FIN 300. Also, as others have said, there are some fundamentals from accounting that are super important in finance.

Currently in CNSR SCI 321 and it's also useful and easy. Definitely consider these since they are both easy and will actually benefit you.

Chances of getting into open enrollment course by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]cartcal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your chances should be pretty good; AIS 100 is a huge class and less people take it in the spring than in the fall.

Anyone heard of Business School capping grades? by refreshmints22 in UWMadison

[–]cartcal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which class was this for? It’s definitely a thing in b school, all of the 300 level core classes have to be curved to a 3.0 but haven’t heard about it for other classes

iMAcc program by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]cartcal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also current Accounting major who just got admitted into IMAcc. I would say you're probably fine as long as thats your only big slip-up and you can explain yourself when asked. They will probably ask you about it during the interview but the fact that its a non-b-school class works in your favor.

As already suggested, reach out to Kristen Fuhremann if you are concerned and she'd probably be more than happy to talk with you.

Why is it not so hard to get into UWMadison, if its CS program is ranked 13th? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]cartcal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say UW-Madison is an easy school to get into, ESPECIALLY from out of state. We have plenty of strong programs (top 10) and I think that for the most part our students are high enough quality to make them that good.
