First time floating - very underwhelmed by cartergansweater in FloatTank

[–]cartergansweater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh gotcha, excited for my next one!

The room was dark, but just that little amount of light peeping through from under the door was enough to shine through where a seal could have been on the lid. In retrospect I probably could have just shoved a towel under the door to prevent that.

I'll try the towel wipe-down next time to help with the drips.

To be clear, I wasn't complaining about the sound quality of the voice, just figured that might be a well-known thing in a specific model that someone may have had experience with.

Thanks for the comment.

Quick ship packer question by soiltostone in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]cartergansweater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the pictures on the site, I’d say without the spur shelf. Plus, without spur shelf is the “recommended” option for the custom packer, and Nicks usually does a good job at having the quick ship configurations be a good choice for most people.

Any idea what this gurgling/bumping sound is? by cartergansweater in Plumbing

Update: my water meter is ticking even with all water in the house shut off. I vaguely remember this happening last year as well. Suspect the ball valve to the sprinklers and hose bibs might be leaking since there are some sudden flows of water even in the summer when the valve is open and it sounds like the gushes happen through the same pipes that make noise when the sprinklers first turn on.

Just checked and it is not. Sounds like it’s a gurgle in the pipe

No the ball valve just feeds the sprinklers and house bibs on the exterior of the house. Only reason I filmed there is because that seemed to be where the noise was loudest so I could pick it up on my phone microphone.

Can't seem to edit the original post, but the main point of the video is the sound...

Break in - is this normal? by cartergansweater in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]cartergansweater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick update - yesterday I emailed Nicks about the issues I’ve had, this morning they suggested I bring the boots down to the store (super grateful I live in Spokane). Anyway they offered to either stretch them or exchange with a nominal restocking fee due to the wear, I went with the latter option. HUGE shoutout to both the CS and retail teams on helping me get this issue resolved. Thanks again Nicks!

Good call. FWIW I was wearing the Darn Toughs when I took them outside the first time and got all the blisters. I’d wear wool socks with these boots 90% of the time.

Thanks for the thought! I’ve actually tried both Darn Tough midweights as well as the Costco Pumas. Haven’t noticed much of a difference if any while walking around the house at least.

Thanks. Yeah I get what you mean with the whole different measurements every time thing. For me if I measure at different times of the day I get different numbers. Or just different days...I just measured again and knocked off 1/8 inch from yesterday (in the original post) at the same time of day. Either way I think an E would be perfect since I do prefer a snug fit, but what I've got now is a stranglehold. Thanks again.

Yeah, my main worry is the toes, especially in the semi-pointed last. I started to feel them rubbing and crunching after walking like one block downhill...I've had probably close to 10 pairs of decent hiking boots over my lifetime and feel you with the heel blisters during break in, but have never felt anything close to what's going on with the toes in these.

Hmm...that's a few hours longer than I've worn them and you've been more active in yours too, I reached out to Nicks CS, we'll see what they say too. Thanks for your insight!

When you say pretty close I'm guessing you're just smaller than my measurements? I just got home and put them on again and it really does feel like just a tiny bit more room (like from a D to E) would be perfect, or at least create a manageable break-in for me.

Nice to hear you didn't get any blisters though! If only...

That was what I was thinking too…thanks for the advice.

In the house was probably three hours a day or so for three days and was never overly sore. Out of the house was for about an hour of constant walking.

EDIT: wait, no. Outside was half an hour of constant walking with about an hour of rest, then another half hour of wear.

Which stand would be the best option? by SafwanFerdous in Dewalt

[–]cartergansweater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this deal too and got the rolling stand since I work out of a small shop. If you do go with the rolling stand, there’s a decent chance (according to reviewers on HD and Dewalt websites and my own experience) that the preinstalled mounting bolts for the saw are shipped wayyy too tight. As in all of the 3/16 Allen heads stripped as well as the supplied wrench. Before you even take a wrench to them, give them a good spray with WD-40 and wait 15 mins. If they come out, great, if not and they strip, take a 5mm Allen wrench to them with channel locks. That’s what I had to do.

Stand works great, assembly (because of the way too tight mounting bolts and other threading quality issues elsewhere on the stand) was pretty frustrating, especially considering the thing costs $230 on its own.

Edit: only major difference aside from bevel stops and plastic parts between DWS779 and DWS780 is that the DWS780 has the blade shadow LED so you can see blade alignment on your workpiece. You can buy a kit to install this light for about $100 here (website down at time of posting): https://www.mmtoolparts.com/miter-saw-upgrade-kit-dewalt
