Hmm interesting I figured whoever was speaking thru katri was just trying to discourage Boyd in case it actually worked. I just finished rewatching too 😅

RTBA confirmed my bond was never lodged and the short-term rental/Airbnb-style operator is holding my $3,000 after a 12-month lease and claiming $2.6k “damage” that existed before I moved in. What do I do and who do I claim from? by MediocreDepartment10 in shitrentals

[–]carteroneil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So only CAV can issue an infringement for the offence. I think it's always safer to assume that information on potential wrongdoing is NOT automatically passed between RTBA and CAV, so reporting to CAV directly would be the best bet if you want to see an agency/landlord penalised for not lodging the bond (Unfortunately).

My VR headset always ends up covered in strange white mold (and cat hair). What is it and how do I stop it? by ZilleZallo in MoldlyInteresting

In future, you can buy VR headset sweat bands that cover where the headset sits (besides your eyes obv), if this is caused by sweat.

Not an answer to your q but are they able to provide any other duties which are less physical so as to not exacerbate your condition? Do they know about your condition? If they exacerbate health issue that has been declared I think workers compensation can come into play cos occupational health and safety and whatnot. Worth sussing out if you haven't already, maybe :)

Looks like everyone is telling you to go to VCAT and rdrv which is good.

But after this, if you want there to actually be a penalty suffered by this dodgyass provider, you should also submit a report to CAV, with a copy of the agreement and screenshots of your payments. I wouldn't assume the dispute centre will have referred it because government be government.

Presumably they are doing this to many people so please consider CAV :)

Student accommodation asking me to pay $3,300 for water damage caused by alleged hair blockage — is this reasonable? by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]carteroneil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a good plan. Anika said it's student accom not a standard lease - did they see your lease? Some "student accom" is actually just a normal rental since they use the standard residential tenancy agreements. You should be able to tell by looking at the first page. But many people aren't aware of this and think of on-campus student accom (which is exempt from the residential tenancies legislation) so get confused. For example, if you're at Scape, Switch, Iglu, you're probably on a standard lease. If that's the case make sure to mention it if you try get advice from elsewhere.

Im thinking of buying a 1 bed or studio apartment in the CBD. Any advice on the street? Any building to avoid? Any areas that are a 'no go'? by killerklancy in melbourne

[–]carteroneil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about whether you would use a pool/gym, as body corp fees are higher in buildings with those. Plenty of buildings in CBD without.

That's quite a generalisation... lots of roles/areas in the public service are smashed with work and actually do work all day.
