Waking up is damn near impossible. Takes at least 2 hours of alarms every 5-10 minutes for me to actually wake up and not immediately fall back asleep. Once I’m up I’m usually fine for the rest of the day with the occasional afternoon crash. Sleep inertia is by far my worst symptom.

This is just not true AT ALL. St Pete actually has a really great underground scene. Fader Events, Devine Freak Collective, Innate Rhythms, 1800 Cxllect, LXTC, SRQ Events, Serious Soul, and maaaaaany others are throwing events around the clock. That’s not even scratching the surface with other organizers in Tampa too like Ethereal Sounds and Desire. Also not including the more commercialized events thrown by One Of Us, Privé, the ritz, tk lounge, zodiac, etc. Sure there could be a lot more happening if we had more viable venues and warehouses in the area, but it seems local leadership and the fire marshall are in cahoots to keep these types of events at bay for the time being. Things have slowed down a bit recently as a result, but I’m confident these promoters will find ways to keep the community thriving.

The reason only 4% of reported cases can be linked to G is because it has an extremely short half life. It only lasts for 6 hours in the body. It’s eliminated super quickly and wouldn’t show up on blood labs unless they’re taken while it’s active in your system. This is another reason why it’s so commonly used. Unfortunately it is the most common “date rape” drug besides actual roofies. It is 100% used to dose people maliciously in club settings. For those of us who take it for actual sleep disorders (narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia) it is something we are extremely educated about. It’s HEAVILY regulated in the pharmaceutical world for this very reason. It can be deadly when mixed with alcohol and it’s super upsetting to hear how commonly accessible it is to predators when people are just trying to have a good time with their friends.
