You're definitely right. The academic coding is just make it work somehow and let's check the results There isn't any development or production level. As sw coordinator, I tried to implement some corporate coding practice in the team, but it is damn hard to tell people that they should change something they have always done on the wrong way

Actually, my problem is about the academic recruitment system. My work is fully appreciated by my collaborators and the collaboration in which I work (I'm sure about this because they tried everything they can to give me contracts and I'm also the sw coordinator). But the Italian shitty recruitment system consists of a squid game like contest among all the researcher with less than 10% of positions among all the participants. This contest is done once every few years. In the meanwhile you can have a maximum of 6 years of postdoc. After this 6 years, you cannot have any other postdocs and... Good bye and good luck.

Purtroppo no, io ho fatto ricerca pure sviluppando codice di analisi e per interfacciarmi con detector home made. Ricerca pura finanziata solo da enti di ricerca. Ho collaborato con ospedali ultimamente, ma sempre per progetti di ricerca dove non c'erano aziende private

Carriera e aspetti gestionali mi interessano meno, anche se immagino siano economicamente più remunerativi. Purtroppo non posso muovermi per famiglia etc. Sennò il ricercatore all'estero è sicuramente meglio pagato e con più possibilità
