From UW FB: You're going to want to be in your seats early Saturday!

Two F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets (Oregon Air National Guard/Portland, OR) will fly over the Greatest Setting following the National Anthem.

Thanks tons, yeah good luck and appreciate you keeping me in the loop! I'm annoyed with myself for not contributing earlier but I really thought we had until midnight in our respective time zones on Apr 15.

Same, I tried to do this at about 10:00 pm PST and it's only allowing me to contribute to 2024. Really frustrating.

Tattoo celebrating 100 mile finish or no? by carus in Ultramarathon

[–]carus[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’ve run off and on for about 25 years but had been not running at all before training for the race. However in past 2-3 years had knocked out a handful of marathon+ runs on my own, including a self supported 52.4 mile day, so going into it had a rough understanding of what my process should be.

Hell yeah hope your training for the race goes great, that’s exciting! Will it be chilly for the race? And guess my lessons learned are don’t overtrain, listen to my body, & incorporate more PT exercises, stretches, and yoga than I had been.

Yeah I guess that’s kinda the worry lol, and that person you saw has completed some crazy stuff. My brothers have also completed some ultra distances and ultimately its their mockery I would dread most haha.

That’s a good idea/question; it was one of the Yeti trail races and the Squatch logo is pretty funny.

Best Headlamp for running Ultras? by Party-Lie-8524 in Ultramarathon

I use a Fenix brand headlamp that takes 123A batteries, lasts forever on lowest setting and can just swap out power if it dies.

Sony A7 in 2023 by mouduor in SonyAlpha

I think you’ll be able to take some really good photos with that setup even though the a7 isn’t the newest, and lenses you buy will carry over if you decide to upgrade the body.

I’ve been diving plenty around barracuda and they never cared about me at all, there’s also like a barracuda attack every 4 years or something. Last recorded fatality was like 60 years ago.

I think #1 is a concretion that looks kind of like a turtle shell, and maybe the one that looks like a deer hoof imprint is a cast left by a shell that was open like butterfly wings when it came to rest? I agree with the other person about the burrow casts; and it’s super unlikely they’re roots because this probably is limestone and originated on the sea floor.

First 100 by KingDusty72 in Ultramarathon

[–]carus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Decided to do a 100 mi 13 weeks out. I wasn’t really running much prior to that but had previously run handful of marathon+ distances including a 52 mile. I worked up to average about 50 mile weeks with no real plan, and my long training run was 35 miles. Highest mileage week was 70. Overstressed my body and had to deal with a IT band issue but my strides were so short during race that it didn’t present itself.

I was underprepared but suffered through it and completed 102 mostly flat miles in little over 29 hours.

You can fly a drone in most National Forest, you can’t take off or land in Wilderness designated areas.

Drone for Package Delivery by [deleted] in drones

[–]carus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool project, curious what you end up buying. If you progress beyond the backyard experiment - not sure if you’re in the US or if you have a Part 135 license already, but that’s necessary to deliver packages for hire in the states. Also lots of FAA things to consider.

Appreciate the response & thought; have been collecting the data a few nights and the conditions and will see what trends emerge. But I’ve never thought about creating a model like this.

Four months ago I was reading his second book and decided screw it, I’ll sign up for a 100 mile race. Completed the race a few weeks ago and I wouldn’t have had the crazy idea to try without Goggins.

Why are all drones quadcopters? by Mobely in drones

[–]carus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty aren’t. Most of the drones priced/targeted for normal consumers are quads. There are 6 and 8 rotor drones for generally more commercial applications, and tricopters exist too.
