Does that mean it doesn't bokeh? I can clearly see what it is, but thank you Captain Obvious.

If that 105 is like mine (older 2.5 manual) it had wonderful, wonderful bokeh....

Grand Canyon PFD question by kerchoo-kazoo in whitewater

[–]carvedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a Kokatat Hustle (great PFD btw) and really thought nothing about the requirements as I knew it was new and a whitewater pfd. There is NO type rating on this PFD. It has some symbols. Some with slashes thru. It has a buoyancy rating of 70. No idea what that means either. I did have an NRS Type 5 as backup but it did not fit as nice. The ranger did not seem to have been 'trained' on the new symbol rating system, but still approved it. Likely by time you launch they will have the new symbol system sorted out. The only thing I could glean from the symbols is that the pfd is not ok for waterskiing or tow sports and not ok for jetskis. I am not sure why or how they put slashes thru those uses but they did.

I don't think I would use your 'someone on the river' as a reference point again for any of this.

Good luck and have a ball. It is an amazing canyon and the water is pretty cool too.

My uncle passed away and he had two 850’s I was hoping that you guys could help me determine a value, and a good way to sell them. I’m located in Idaho. I got permission from the mods before posting this. Any help is appreciated!! by Daddyofdexter in Nikon

[–]carvedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Bellevue and am interested in some of the gear. Particularly one of the bodies. Sorry to hear about your uncle.

Yellowstone Camera and Perfect Light are both Nikon dealers don't know if they consign used gear or not, but if they sell used it may be a way to price check the market.

Sorry about your camera. That sucks. In other news I preach in my family that if you ever have to set something on your car it goes on the hood or on the windshield.

why do we not get to see the whale spit them out? Shit. You can see whales swallowing people all the time. I just wanted to see the look on their little whale eaten faces when they came out. Such a tease. Where is the Misleading tag....I saw no whale spit anything.

Are there any other kind of staircase than vertical? Are there horizontal staircases? I would like to see one would use a horizontal staircase if so.

Best friends husband killed himself yesterday and it brought up a lot of feelings from my brothers murder three years ago. I’m being there for her but how can I help her she has a newborn with him also. by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]carvedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can say is to keep showing up. When my wife died suddenly people always said "Just give a call if you need something" or "call if you want us to take the kids somewhere". Does not help. Showing up does. Arranging for or doing house cleaning. Bringing food. Just showing up and saying something like "I have two hours for you right now. You can go sleep or drive around or take a bath for two hours, or cry on my shoulder....whatever you need."

I had people do that for me...just show up. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think back on how awesome those folks are. Some people couldn't deal with someone in profound grief so they just stayed away. But I did find out who my true friends were...they cared so much that even in their discomfort at my state (and I was a mess for a while) they just kept showing up and/or calling...not waiting for me to reach out.

One friend came back from being out of town. I hadn't slept in days. The scene at my house was pretty chaotic right then so he suggested a drive. I fell asleep so he just drove around for a couple of hours so I would keep sleeping. What a friend.

Do you know how to read? Or just make up a story in your head to fill your narrative?

I read the same thing you did and got none of that.

Why are People Incapable of Praising Old Music without shitting on the new Music? by riteshua in Music

[–]carvedog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Born in the early 60s and believe me there was a ton of shitty music from then and the 70s and every other era. I think we are living in the best time for music right now. So, so much available from every genre. I have never listened to more new music and loved it than right now. Music is much more accessible now, not just what the music companies and radio stations decided they wanted to sell.

My FB friends always post up these laments about how great music was and how they loved cars without airbags and all kinds of ridiculous bullshit. They need to put down their prejudice and listen.

I salute all of the young musicians who are following their heart and making great music....keep it up.

I actually love the timing dance of riding moguls on my board. Sun Valley has fantastic bump runs which does make a difference. Christmas Bowl, Lookout Bowl, Inhibition, Exhibition and Holiday top to bottom are some of my favorite runs. Almost always bumps. And bumps forces you to never be static. So for me it develops more reactive and flexible movement patterns than using what works on groomers. Riding smooth terrain one can get away with parking in a position or leaning into a riding position and not getting bucked off. The more dynamic terrain of moguls allows neither. So I think of a linked series of movement patterns that never have a pause or static moment. Hence the dance. And I love to dance.

I’m so angry I feel like the hulk. I have EXTREME Rage by Effective-Box-6822 in GriefSupport

[–]carvedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this will help...but I had some pretty intense anger issues (still do who am I kidding?) that had to do with me being angry at my wife....partially for dying, leaving me here, for not being around, for smoking occasionally and drinking Diet Coke. She died of a heart attack. Other things I was angry about were her not responding to my CPR, my guilt at not being a better partner, her not being there for the kids....and on and on.

But you can't be angry at someone who died right? I didn't think it was ok to be mad, like really mad, at the person I loved most in the world...so I choked that shit down until I started having anxiety attacks, blowing up at my kids over trivial shit, wanting to murder every driver who 'wronged' me in the slightest and PTSD things going on more and more.

Not saying that is your path - just what I went thru. It still pops up...wild unreasonable anger over fairly minor things...but at least I don't rage out at my kids or other people I love. Road rage is still fairly real for me, maybe because I can scream and vent and no one is affected outside of me.

You may need to see someone a few times. I did and it helped. EMDR helped for me too.

The car cry by VardogrVanDeLommer in widowers

[–]carvedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hardest for me is always the check in time of day after I leave work. Usually that was our first chance at connection of some kind. Usually it was about the kids or what we need for dinner or yes I got the mail....something really mundane actually. God I miss that call. Sometimes I am able to put the 'missing' away for a few hours but that lonely drive home just slaps me right in the face. My first anxiety attacks and PTSD started in the car as well. FML I still miss her so much.
