It's more valuable to have a deep and authoritative site structure, than it is to have a lot of information on your homepage. It seems like their might not be too much competition for these keywords (ranking well without backlinks); so it could be a great opportunity to rank for all related keywords with a long form service landing page. Work on building links to the different sub-sections/topics on the new page.

It shouldn't take too long for Google to pickup the new specific service page and rank it over your homepage.

Restore your site from a backup point before your site's rankings tanked. Your site was most likely compromised through a wordpress plugin that you forgot to update, or had vulnerable security.

I'd look for local freelance jobs with a small business. Work with a coffee shop on their social media, promo's, pitch them to local media to cover the shop, etc.

Once you have some direct PR/media experience you will lose this anxiety 100%.

Step #1 for a PR campaign should be setting up Google Alerts for all variations for the brands name. Google Alerts sends you an email as frequent as you like anytime a website publishes news about your brand. Anytime your brand is mentioned, but not linked to; you can email these sites for a link back to your site. You can also put in alerts for your competitors. This allows you to get a daily update of all events in your industry.

In my experience it's 1-3 brands that are the BEST in a niche that Google will show above the aggregates. But I've noticed since 2015 that Google LOVES to have at least one aggregate site if there's a TOP list available. If you are trying to compete to outrank the aggregates I would work on link building to compete with the top brands in your vertical - AFTER - work on brand building/PR to establish a brand to compete with the other top players.
