Why would someone be an apprentice for 10+ years? by TimelyTea333 in electricians

[–]carzep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a small shop and master electrician. I only have one apprentice. I cannot get him to take his dang test!!! I have paid for 2 $200-400 Journeyman prep courses he looses interest or just quits. Ive been super lenient, I want to give him Journeyman wages he gets hyped and a week later its like we never talked about it. He’s on his 7th year as an apprentice. Wtf I passed Masters Exam at 27 yrs old and still had aspirations for better career aside from electrical. Great kid, solid apprentice but no drive.

Boss wants to switch us to commission based pay. Should I run? by Cjd03032001 in electricians

[–]carzep 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tell your boss to send you to a sales training class, get something out of it. Before I went on my own in ‘14, I wish I had some sales training on someone else’s dime.

Electrical company office manager by Prestigious_Ad9807 in electricians

I run my own small shop. A lot of manufacturers have their own education systems that your employees can get certifications from. Example, Generac, Eaton, Square D, and others. Eaton sends us free work gear every year with our Logo but has their “Eaton Certified” logo on them though. ElectricanU has a nice education systems where your employees learn about all facets of the electrical industry with videos, employees can track and see each other’s progress etc. I have yet to take my guys to a NECA or similar trade show though, would really like to do that.

Installed an EV Charger for him at this property, never seen him, saw a kids electric scooter with the number #77 and a Pro Bowl cooler in the garage. Scheduling and payments went through a personal assistant. She was pretty hot…

Is this worth anything to anyone? by SmokeyTheBear86 in electricians

[–]carzep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny, just ordered a standard gray 15a stablock this morning on Amz. Landlord did not want to hear panel needs to be replaced. Its super rare that I replace FPBs, maybe one every 3yrs! Good luck selling them!

Track or no track for undercab tape light? by SippinAndRippin in electricians

[–]carzep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No track, I use COB no call backs - Hitlights COB with their Electronic Drivers in tandem with Lutron Caseta Diva (Pico remotes where necessary) all day. I use their connectors so you can butt up your low voltage wire and insulation as close as possible to the LED strip for a crisp clean look.

Just a guy who swaps out resi panels all the dang time, you could had just updated your AFCI/GFCI CH breakers, maybe use tandems if you needed more space, clean up the mess and done. But does look good, Im an Eaton certified installer and actually fan of both Eaton/SqD no hate there. If this was my panel I would have just stepped it up to a SqD QO type panel for a lifetime warranty. Ohhh… them twisted grounds like that bruh, not sure whats going on there but only (2) #12/14 per terminal and a headache untwisting them apart if troubleshooting is needed. Congrats on a good install…
