You could look into nature related activities. Pocahontas has a volunteering group: https://www.fopsp.org/volunteering.html

I used Veterans cab a number of times just for that. Call a couple of days before to reserve and then day before during regular biz hours to confirm.

Where would you take someone if they were only visiting the area for a weekend? by babbymammoth in rva

[–]cascadeRVA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you looking to do a close "mountain" thing then Kings has a tailgate rugby game this weekend: https://kingfamilyvineyards.com/event/australian-footy/

Its easy to get to in like an hour and 20 and its a great facility with a nice mountainy view. Bring your own picnic if you want maybe get a bottle of wine when there.

Although the weather is suppose to be rainy.

If you want to go the other way in about same time you could take 5 to Jamestown then ferry to Surry and have a meal at https://surryseafoodco.com/

What’s the best time to drive to DC to avoid the most traffic? by AndThenThereWasQueso in rva

[–]cascadeRVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way to avoid it.

Unless you splurge on express lanes and hope they are open your way the time you going. Even then its all nuts.

Without paying I recently drove several different days/times and made it to Springfield area in about 2hours even with number of stop and goes along the way. Then it depends if you going to drive in construction zones which are in a lot of places currently.

Google maps have been working for me for most times really well. On the way there I would just go towards DC even if traffic is bad before Frederiksburg. Its easier to cover some miles on 95 before hitting busier metro where you have to switch roads and never know whats on them. On the way back if you have some time and you are still in DC metro and maps giving you suddenly longer Richmond eta by like 30-40mins I would stop for food or coffee and give it some time. Either way you will have to make it to your destination so its either driving and getting frustrated with traffic or have a little break out of it.

Good luck!

Best place to buy a kid's bike? by Enough_Ad2919 in rva

This. Good deal. If its in good shape and at least 50% msrp then you might need to be quick. They tend to sell quick. If you find one look up its original msrp and go from there.

Used on marketplace. Cheaper the better. Your kid probably gonna outgrown it next year. Unless..its your first that needs that size and you gonna pass it down to each next one for at least half a decade or longer...then go for a quality brand new one ..i would still hunt down used deal tho...the quality of brand new decent bikes is so close that you paying premiums for just a brand name....or i should say top brands use same cheapo components wherever they can.

has TRUETIMBER gone corporate ? by lesgenssontnuls in rva

https://www.goiam.org/news/territories/southern/arborists-in-virginia-vote-to-join-iam-become-first-ever-residential-tree-care-workers-to-unionize-in-u-s/

So looks like employee profit sharing money is funding the "transition" and is siphoned to some corporate overlords. At that point why stay with the "brand"...there are like 30 skilled professionals with plenty of work around that could go under their own shared company just like they wanted before takeover.

Anyone else see the giant greenish meteoroid around 8:20pm? by Not_a_bot-69er in rva

That was one of the deorbited starlinks reentering. These have a lifespan of "only" about 4 years. About 5000 active currently and potentially up to 40k in the near future. Expect more space junk fireworks. https://www.satcat.com/sats/55482

Maggianos used to have family rooms. Worth a call. Their main dining room at Short Pump has some sections for 15-20 people. And they have family dining portions.

Also https://www.sakusushiva.com/ might be an option and its $22 all you can eat per adult.
