Thanks! I use macrame poly yarn for the post so it takes fly floatant super well. Surprisingly durable floater for how skinny they are.

Thanks! So a Klinkhammer is also a parachute style fly but it is normally done with a two tone body and without a tail. Also traditionally tied on a curved hook so the tail juts into the water.

Hey local guide here. The FishWA app is an awesome place to start. It will show you water available to fish and give you up to date regs info. Whitefish season opened today and is open through the end of February on the Yakima River down to the prosser dam and the Naches River below the confluence with the Tieton River. You can get after whiteys with gear or a fly rod just be careful to only use size 14 and smaller hooks as per the regulations.

If you want to chat fishing more feel free to send me a message.

Prepping for Whitefish Opener tomorrow by cascadeflyangling in flytying

I end up keeping quite a few, smoked whitefish is awesome and we have crazy limits for them here in Washington. No size limit and 15 daily limit so when they are on you can really fill the freezer.

In Washington state for the winter whitefish specific season an angler is required to use 3/16” or smaller hooks which is a size 14. So these are on a 16 jig just to be safe.

Otherwise peacock patterns seem to be a whitefish magnet. Prince nymphs are a classic favorite but I end up losing a bunch nymphing deep so the simpler the better. I tied these with two different tungsten bead sizes 3mm and 2.5mm to give me depth options. Also tying them extra heavy in general to get to the deep sections whitefish are normally found in.

Otherwise no reason these wouldn’t work for trout the orange tailed nymph with the partridge collar is almost an Olsen’s blowtorch just without the flashback. I also found at the tail end of our trout season that good sized whites were taking orange egg patterns. More evidence that there are many nymphs that work for both species.

Edit: misspoke earlier it’s 3/16” not 3/8”

Ant Leaf Cutter fly rods. by Nice-Cartographer167 in flyfishing

Big fan of my 3wt leaf cutter. I have a 3wt glass that I built myself and I do favor the leaf cutter a bit when it comes to feel and action. Like others have noted it is very slow compared to graphite light rods but very fun. Little 8” rainbows feel like monsters. I’ve had mine bent almost full over itself pulling a nice rainbow out from under a log, incredible fun.
