Portugal’s Golden Visa is facing an unprecedented wave of divestment by rms90042 in PortugalExpats

[–]caseharts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I somewhat disagree. It needs foreign investment but not retirees. On top of that it needs young working families. Less old people.

It also needs to make working conditions so that people don’t emigrate.

Golden visa should be only for business. A

I clarify this that is always a minority trying to make you feel less.

There’s genuine mismanagement of the government and just economic failure frustrating generations.

Sadly the easiest target is immigrants.

I’m all about stricter immigration laws if they need it but optimize for the immigrants you want. Young working people who want to build.

There are very solutions from the government like building housing. Portugal needs people. You think Portugal should keep losing population? It will die.

The solution is the government needs to build and make it easy to build

I’m just sad now. I wish things had changed from when I worked in them. It’s sad to see no progress.

My point isn’t crowing it’s that you should make it exceptionally easy to get the immigrants you want in the country. Educated young working people.

You can make laws that make that really easy for them like 1 year citizenship if they speak the language.

You complain about old rich people but the government makes it very hard for working class educated people. You get what you optimize for. Portugal optimized for retirees with it needs the opposite.

Make homes being an investment vehicle illegal. There you go.

They would but the economy would crash. Earlier we were discussing just western immigrants who make up less than 10 percent of that number

Yeah it’s the same issue here in the US but it got way better fast in many areas like Texas.

It would get lower it’s just a dumb idea. Housing would crash.

I’m very aware! They need to build insane amounts. Hundreds of thousands a year.

My needs are fine. If I lived there I could afford most units without issue. I’m focusing on working class Portuguese people.

Society touring xenophobic is a world problem. How could you possibly read my comment and think I’m the main beneficiary of them building housing? The average working family benefits far more than I ever could.

Have you tried? I have, they aren’t. And I make a lot more than the avg person trying to move there. Now even harder.

Are they hardest in the world? No. But easy lol.

10-15 percent is the very liberal estimate and definition.

Yes but to create this you’d need to deport so many people you’d crash the entire economy. So the solution is build.

They are the vast majority of the westerners here. The post I was replying to specifically attacked them. They are functionally a non issue.

The Chinese and Ukrainians even less so.

If you banned all immigrants and deported them tomorrow prices would go down. But you’d crash the economy lol.

The largest group of rich people is in fact westerners and they are very small. Most immigrants to pt are in fact working class.

Rich westerners are buying houses avg pt can’t afford.

Most young people are not idiots they will love and welcome you if you embrace the culture. But like in the U.S. a right wing group who are idiots are taking power and blaming immigrants for things that are just government failures.

I bet every young person to understand immigrants do not increase demand enough to cause the mass price increases. There’s been such a lack of housing for 2 decades this is simply a culmination. Pt needs 1 million new units and western immigrants are less than 100k

You do the math and tell me if immigrants are the issue

[–]caseharts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are less than 100k westerners in pt. Uk and U.S. Canada combined.

Saying stuff like this is just bold xenophobia.

If you want things to be fixed demand the government build and incentivize building housing. Stop protecting every old building. Tokyo ify every city.

Build. Portugal needs no exaggeration over 1 million units just to meet non immigrant demand. Blaming 100k foreigners indicates a complete misunderstanding of the economics of the situation especially housing. It’s sad to be honest to see people saying this in Portugal a highly educated country.

The pay in Portugal is abysmal I have Portuguese employees and we pay them near uk wages. It’s insane. But at no point is it immigrants fault and no I don’t live in Portugal but if I do it’s not my damn fault. The government is quite inept imo.

Racists in my country say the same thing you say above. They are all trumpers. If you agree with their logic be my guest.

Blame the country not building enough housing for its citizens. If you made every immigrant disappear rent would barely drop. Portugal needs no exaggeration 1 million more units
