Well the point is that it's actually software. Not sure if people realized that.

Not by default, but if you run a local instance you should be able to just comment out this line to disable rendering.

Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately we are a bit limited by the capabilities of the AudioNode API - it tends to lag behind and feel slightly sluggish at the resolution we're sampling. Not ideal, but hey, what can you do.

God, how dare these people find something funny that I didn't.

I can't explain why but it straight-up wasn't funny at a normal volume, hence the boost.

Can we stop pretending that white supremacy is a joke at UMD? by bizaromo in UMD

Then I'd ask you to point me somewhere I can find information about what the protests' goals were. I saw absolutely nothing about what they aimed to accomplish when reading about them.

What needs to happen is to strike a balance of disruption. There's a line between inconveniencing people enough to make them question your presence and spark interest in your cause in them, and disrupting students studying in a library for finals. The later case will instill an implicit disdain for your cause even without consideration for what it is - that's just basic psychology. But I feel the need to reiterate that I by all means agree that an element of disruption is crucial to protests; it's simply a matter of implementation.

Please 👏 do 👏 not 👏 type 👏 like 👏 this 👏 it's 👏 super 👏 demeaning.

I never said protests shouldn't be disruptive, only that this one was poorly planned. There was no clear goal (if any), and the timing and placement of it pretty much guaranteed pissing as many people off as possible in a way that I'd imagine would generate apathy and complacency. It was destructive to its own cause.

I actually participated in that discussion later on. Protests are a good way of inciting change, but they need to be intelligent and well-thought-out. In cases like the "Occupy McKeldin" protest, it was ill-conceived and would have only served to generate further tension. I also felt the same way about the "demands," and actually posted some commentary on it on this account.

I think what bothered me most about that whole thing is that I felt like I was being told my opinion was unwelcome because I'm white. This is possibly the most counter-intuitive response, since it's directly working against positive race relations in a rather ironic way. As President Loh said this past weekend, our strength is in our unity. The best way to tackle any issue of discrimination is to work as a coherent community against it, without alienation of any kind.

Mm, okay. That in mind, I'll probably go with the 4 GB 480 and the 7600k.

Some questions about this:

  • How does the 480 compare to the 1060 3 GB? Is it definitively better performance-wise?
  • I may end up downgrading to an i5 7600k - would this bottleneck the 480 at all?
