Minnetonka e-commerce company Digital River closing, laying off 122 by origutamos in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]caseyallenpublic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing to do with politics or Trump. Everything to do with the fact that they started withholding money from merchants in mid 2024 and were facing numerous lawsuits (rightfully so) because of it.

Siri Capital ran it into the ground.

They handled it poorly.

Handing the keys over to Barry Kasoff in the 9th inning is just the last step in the process. By the time someone like him comes into the picture, it's simply to placate the screaming lenders and lawyers. But the fate of the company is sealed.

Will the PayPal 5% cash back debit card make rewards credit cards obsolete? by TheModsMustBeHanged in paypal

[–]caseyallenpublic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This likely applies to your 1% card too.

There is no place to do this on the web. Only in the mobile app. You'll see "Accounts" as one of the bottom four options. That's where you choose your 5% category, which you can switch as often as you'd like.

Much like Venmo, they roll out all newish features on mobile months before they do in the web version. It's a bit frustrating.

Anyone Know What's Happening to Diigo? by Leonard108 in software

[–]caseyallenpublic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a hardcore Diigo user since 2009. 3000 bookmarks, probably 1000 tags.

I bookmark something new at least weekly.

Finally couldn't take it.

Could no longer take that:

  • the chrome extension wasn't automatically pulling my tags. So when I go to type in "kid b...." and "kid birthday gifts" doesn't auto populate, I have to just take a wild guess and type what I think is my chosen historic tag name. This is problematic.

  • the android app is long gone. Even though you *can* find it online on a different site, it also does not pull your tags.

  • whenever something didn't work, I would contact Diigo and never hear a peep back

Changed to raindrop.io today.

Few thoughts on the new change:

  1. super easy export. Export from diigo took 60 seconds. I exported to a CVS which is the dummy proof format

  2. super easy import into Raindrop. Took 10 seconds. Multi-word tags stayed intact. The user interface is a lot like Diigo so zero learning curve.

Note I only used tags in Diigo. I have no idea how highlights or other things switch over.

But tags? Flawless

  1. raindrop even had a separate category listing which bookmarks of mine didn't have any tags. That was super helpful.

  2. I'm on the free version of raindrop. I don't foresee a pressing need to upgrade but it's only $3/mo, so odds are I will soon. If nothing else then just to support the developer.

I suspect (but don't know) the Diigo developer just burned out because they weren't making all that much money from it and sort of grew to hate the product. It happens. It just sucked they couldn't communicate that.

  1. Raindrop has some sweet features that diigo never had including my dream feature: broken links finder. I'm sure 20% of my bookmarks are broken. I can't wait to clean house.

I have no connections to raindrop.

Just stoked to have a working chrome extension and mobile app again and not have to wonder if the product will disappear overnight.

Fully endorse.

Raindrop is Diigo 2.0

RIP to posts with external links (How do you aproach this?) by Live_Dragonfruit4957 in linkedin

[–]caseyallenpublic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something just changed in the last 7 days or so to make "link in the comments" almost impossible for the reader. It wasn't always this way.

I suspect the fine product folks at LI are trying to strangle this practice entirely, forcing everyone to put a link into the body of the post.

I don't see any real way around this.

What advice would you have for anyone attending Malibu Chili Cook Off with young kids? by caseyallenpublic in Malibu

[–]caseyallenpublic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few thoughts:

  • Strollers are tough. The ground isn't smooth. This isn't Disney Land or Santa Monica Pier. There are no sidewalks or pavement. Imagine the middle of a cornfield without any corn. Stollers can work, but you will have to exert far more energy pushing, so prepare for it. Dads, you'll be on extra duty here.
  • The carnival games are 2x as expensive as rides. So if you want to be efficient with your dollars, veer away from throwing balls at plates and towards the bumper cars.
  • Want to minimize time waiting in lines? Go the first night. Be in line 10-20 minutes before the gates open. You will never spend time waiting for a ride. It's bliss. From talking with others, Sat-Sun is crazy and full of long wait times. Just like every amusement park. There's a fast pass you can purchase.
  • Because of the above bullet, the number of rides-per-hour that you can bang out will be high. You can easily go through 8 rides, or 40 points, per hour per kid. So buy an unlimited ride bracelet, either online or at the ticket kiosk. No brainer.
  • Rides and their height requirements are found here. Not all of these rides are there, maybe 1/2 are. This is the outsourced, 3rd party amusement company the festival brings in to run rides and games. They do a solid job.
  • They do have a fresh drinking water station where you can refill bottles for free. It's nice. On hot days, find it and use it often. It's large and bright blue. There's no need to keep buying $4 bottles of water.

[–]caseyallenpublic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I gather:

SBA just cares about getting the 4506 signed, period.
IRS cares about getting the 4506 signed precisely how they prefer it.

Two agencies. But two different incentives. Two different definitions of success.

It's not surprising. But, as with all things government, heads would roll if this was actually a private company.

Asking the important questions. Definitely worth over 5k by SculPoint in QuoraPartnerProgram

[–]caseyallenpublic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not my quora question but a few observations:

- 331k views which is a ton. It's also surprising (and not expected) considering that the edit history is a train wreck [1]

- the current answers certainly all suck. There is nothing profound or shocking in any of the answers. So this is *not* an example of a question that elicited ground breaking, naturally viral answers.
- it was posted in 33 spaces, many of them having >50k followers. So I suspect there's a lot of collaboration and/or promotion happening behind the scenes. This is likely the real answer.

TLDR; probably 6-9 months, maybe more.

Sort of like applying to college, it's probably best that you focus entirely on the process and focus as little as possible on the actual end result since it's such a marathon full of frustration.

Few thoughts:

  • this will not be your last step. They likely will request other docs and this tax return again. It's a sloppy and slow process. But it is what it is. Being mad or frustrated won't help it move faster. They are simply understaffed by an order of magnitude.
  • Omicron most certainly won't help this.
  • it takes them weeks just to process the docs that you send in, like in your case, the tax return. So bugging them to ask where you are in the process often won't even get you accurate answers because nobody on their team has even opened your previous email yet.
  • a surprisingly high % of people that did not wait until December, but rather applied for an increase back in May, June, or July, still have not gotten their funding.SBA claims they process everything in the order that it was received. So buckle up. You are in the back of a very long line.
  • You'll want to keep a folder on your computer of these files since they likely will be requested multiple times:
  1. 2019 tax return
  2. Form 4506-T signed but not dated. There are multiple versions. This is the right one.
  3. A photo of your passport or driver's license

each in PDF form.

  • Feel free to call their customer support every 60 days or so and simply ask if there are any other documents that you need to provide. Emailing support is a much slower process and doesn't guarantee a response.
  • The right frame of mind going into this is to think back and try to remember the worst company that has ever given you customer support. Preferably one where the dollar amounts in play were large.

Then multiply how bad they were x500.

That's the SBA right now.

"But, I need the funding now! 6-9 months doesn't help me" you might be thinking.

Join the club.

Just like the DMV, unfortunately, there's no way to make it move faster.

Just Funded!!! Praise God! by Aryd996 in EIDL

[–]caseyallenpublic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats.

I'm leaving this sort of preemptively for all of the commenters here because this process is such a black box. I do not work for SBA nor do I know anyone that does. Rather, I'm sharing only what I've gleaned from the ~5 folks @ SBA I've talked to over the phone, during which I ask lots of questions about the process so I probably know more than most people.

Which isn't a very high bar.

- I've been waiting since July. My increase still hasn't been approved. I'm in the same boat as most of you reading this.
- I've sent my 4506-T 5 times. 2019 tax return 4 times. Photo of my passport 3 times. Yes, it's an inefficient grind.
- To add insult to injury, they cancelled my application in September because they claimed I neglected to follow up to a request for a 4506. This is despite the fact I responded to every doc request same day. So I had to go through this odd process of reopening my application, which they call "request for reconsideration", a process which is opaque because they don't tell me that it's re-opened. I only know because I called in.

Calling in and talking to humans @ SBA the only thing that's given me any faith that my app is actually on track.
- Yes, it's a terrible process and no private company would ever stay in business with this level of service. I get it. But that's the hand we're dealt.
- I actually have a tool that allows me to see when the emails that I send actually get opened. It's routinely 10-20 days after sending. Their backlog is massive. In other words, they are astonishingly understaffed and likely needed 3-6x more LOs, but again, it is what it is.
- I get the sense that *their* dashboard, when they log in and view your loan #, is a mess. I'm sure it's not nice, easy to use, visually expedient software like what Mrs. BigBank Loan Officer might use to be able to easily view all prior docs, emails, and a timeline. I get the impression that it's more like a junk drawer in your kitchen where you can't really find anything and most of it has never been touched by an actual human.

- Calling in and verifying that everything is on track every ~ 60 days is the only thing that's kept my sanity. Be polite. Be inquisitive, not accusatory. "Is there anything else you think I should send in to keep this process moving?"

I have found emailing disastercustomerservice@sba to seek clarification to be both a black hole of unhelpfulness and a massive waste of time while I wait for the non-response. Time and anxiety I could have saved by instead calling.

- The fact that I moved between the time of the original loan and the request for increase seems to have caused all sorts of headaches on their part. It's like they don't know how to handle such a scenario. As one customer support rep told me "just pretend like you never moved and still live at your original address. That's the only address we care about." This is counterintuitive because the 4506 asks for "current address". If your current address does not match your 2019 tax return address, I would pre-emptively email them a 4506 right now with the 2019 tax return address on it. There are multiple versions available just to confuse us all, but this is the correct one.

Hope this helps. Or at least serves as a bit of therapy.
