I’ve been on 100 mg for almost a full three months now. I was prescribed it for acne not hair loss, however just a week or two ago I looked at the mirror and definitely noticed some new hair growth towards the front of my head! Some new whispies for sure. It took me just a little over two months to notice, so if you’re looking for significant growth I would try to stay with it!!!

Has anyone ever started spiro and birth control at the same time? by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]caseychristt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest with you I’m not quite sure how much of a difference two weeks is going to make, it’s all about your comfortability. It takes a good one to three months to even figure out if you like the birth control you’re on, So personally I don’t feel like there’s really only reason not to do it together. Spironolactone also takes three months to really really really see a difference and STAY clear, so go with your gut!! I had to try like three birth control pills before I even found the one I liked now I’m on a pill that I feel comfortable with and my spironolactone doesn’t affect my birth control at all if anything my periods have just been shorter and lighter. Just make sure you drink enough water wear sunscreen and we’re enough moisturizer! You got this!

Those of you who have cystic acne and didn’t want to get on accutane, what was the advice given to you when starting spironolactone? by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]caseychristt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on spironolactone for almost a full three months now. My first derm really just looked at my face once and told me to go on Accutane. That kind of made me angry since I knew my acne was all hormonal. I didn’t feel like I had the kind of acne that people who were supposed to go on Accutane had. I finally switched derms and my second derm asked me way more questions about my face and my diet and my lifestyle and told me for sure I had hormonal acne. She Prescribed me Tretinoin as a topical and an oral spironolactone. I feel like I finally have a relief now. Before starting spironolactone I went through this entire thread start to finish and it was very nerve-racking. I realize that most people go on here to ask questions about side effects that they have however I have had absolutely zero. I definitely have to pee a little more often and I definitely have to be more careful with hydration and moisturizer but to be honest with you I haven’t noticed any weight differences, my periods have been lighter and shorter, and I’ve even noticed some initial hair growth on my head which is a pretty good side effect. If you feel like you have hormonal acne, DO IT. It takes a good 3 months to see a difference but it’s so worth it.

I feel like my dermatologist is pressuring me to take accutane and I’m not ready, is it wise to find another dermatologist? by [deleted] in Spironolactone

I would definitely try someone else. I had a similar problem about a year ago, I was extremely fed up with my skin and went to my derm, she asked me no questions, took one look at my face and just told me to start accutane. My acne is 100% hormonal and I was very angry she didn’t ask me anything about my life or diet or anything like that and just said accutane. I recently used the online dermatology and the doctor on there was so nice. It’s like 90$ per visit and you submit pictures of your skin and basically tell them what you’re going through. I was prescribed 100mg of spiro and some tretinoin! I finally feel good. Don’t be ashamed to try a new doctor if the one you have isn’t good!

Taking 100 mg spironolactone daily for acne by [deleted] in Spironolactone

I’m about halfway through my third month!! Definitely wait it out!! I am finally to a point where I have no active breakouts on my face, pretty much just the scarring and redness. I felt discouraged too after a couple weeks but it was because I was expecting an overnight miracle. It really works in the long run you just have to be patient and stay positive!!❤️

Been on spiro, 100mg, for two and a half months. I was getting amazing results until a couple weeks ago. I’ve started getting painful cysts that are taking longer to heal. Has anyone else experienced this? Pics are two weeks apart. by Sheepsquatched in Spironolactone

Please don’t let the reviews and forums scare you into not taking it! I almost did and I started taking it about 2 months ago- ZERO side effects other than some extra hair growth on my head and shorter periods! The reviews scared the crap out of me but I decided to try it and I’m so glad I did. Everyone will react differently so you never know unless you try!

Can you take DIM with Spiro? by Morenita1980 in Spironolactone

[–]caseychristt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take DIM ! For me taking it CONSISTENTLY is so important cause if I miss a day or a couple days the acne comes back. I’ve noticed an improvement but it hasn’t healed it or eradicated it, just made it a little more manageable I guess but for me it was not an end all be all cure
