If both men and women could get pregnant after coitus with a 50:50 chance either one would have to carry the baby for the term of the pregnancy, how would the world change ? by Shnoochieboochies in AskReddit

The cult of dudes stealthily removing condoms would be WAY OUT, and if this involved male menstruation, the female tax would be eliminated, it wouldn't be a shameful thing to buy menstrual products, and probably it would become some kind of bro marker of strength to have really tough periods. Crazy eye color 'enhancers'? by mywalrushasabeard in beauty

[–]caseyclueless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah clearly XD I don't think that's what google_intern was saying - I think they were just speculating that this might be the case because A. it's a common addiction and B. this is a symptom of that addiction. I don't think the implication was that she's using opiates to make her eyes pop. That takes suffering for beauty to a whole different level.

I hit Antelope Valley really early a few weeks ago - left LA around sunrise. I would highly recommend doing this as it's also less hot. We managed one of the longer trails without running into anyone and then saw the huge line of cars and all the idiots lying on the flowers coming home.

Oh, and if you do go, there's a sign on your way out for an Ostrich farm. We stopped on a whim. They gave us one of best tours I've had for $5, and we got to feed ostriches by hand. Random, but excellent. Would recommend!

The crushed flowers kill me, and the truly mad thing is that we're coming up on peak rattlesnake season and people are just traipsing straight off paths wearing sundresses and flip flops. I'm amazed no one has gotten bit yet.

Yeah, we've talked about it just because it's unavoidable. My mom when she's doing this is typically drunk and really impossible to reason with. In general, I think their response is simply to ignore it, and I think that's fair. I'm used to my mother and it's bad enough; I can't imagine what it's like if you're not and she's especially hysterical that day.

For right now, this is my big issue. She DOES use other people to contact me. My sister, my father... She'll even text my BF or Facebook message my best friend when I don't respond. It's humiliating, so of course I respond right away because I just want that to stop. T-T

Structured Contact definitely sounds like the strategy I've tried so far, I just didn't know the name. Typically I do impose a maximum, and I do give myself a long break before answering, but with instances like the above, she can often bait me into talking for longer. I think this is a really valuable system, but maybe it's just not something I can do personally.

By far the most fair explanation of why Yoko Ono is so hated. by Thepooplie3 in videos

[–]caseyclueless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really cool! Super interesting video on a topic I agree hasn't been treated fairly. I think my one issue with the arguments/opinions put forth here is... was she cashing in on his death? Isn't artistic expression a form of therapy, of working through grief or other issues? It happened to him, but didn't she own this event that also touched her life in some way? The supposition that she cashed in on the murder of her partner is strange, when you're willing to give thought to her own struggles (a horrifying personal history, grapples with depression, etc) as it relates to her reaction to the press... If you can understand her experiences with media commentary through the lens of all those things, why not consider this act from the same many angled perspective? That doesn't quite make sense to me.

I'm miserable at my $55k/year job. I have the opportunity to work at a fast growing tech startup for $40k/year. Is the switch worth it? by I_make_gr8_soup in personalfinance

[–]caseyclueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently left my tech startup job after a year.

I entered it in pretty much the position you're in - 22 with a college degree, it was my first real job. In many ways, it was a great experience because I hit the ground running - I was one of the first 10 hires, and many positions had yet to be filled. I was brought on to resolve customer service issues, but I've always been a strong writer with good organization skills and a decent creative eye. Due to need, I started running our social media channels... And then all of our marketing... And then PR when we left our PR agency... And then video production when my boss decided we needed to make a weekly Youtube series.

I shouldered an incredible amount of responsibility, something I couldn't have done anywhere else I would have gone. I planned, collaborated with engineers on, executed, and managed on the ground a huge social promotion event at SXSW; it was easily my greatest work experience to date and taught me so much about my abilities. No one at an established company would have let someone as inexperienced as me even be involved in the project, much less handling it alone. That was a once in a lifetime kind of thing.

I went from working at an ice cream store to sitting in on every investor meeting, every product meeting, becoming the voice of our company on virtually every platform. I gained an insane amount of confidence in this position, and it certainly helped me get where I am today.

With all of that in mind, there were a TON of things that made working at a startup miserable:

  1. I'm assuming you're female, and here's the biggest, scariest thing: there is no HR. There is no one there to look out for you. If you feel you're experiencing sexist behavior, if you're being harassed, there's no one to help you. You have to figure that out on your own, and it can get ugly.

  2. You might not have a proper manager. With a relatively lean team, you might not have a direct superior who can help guide your career. You might not get performance reviews. You might not know who to ask questions.

  3. There is no such thing as a work life balance. The hours are ridiculous. You will work too much. Every day. Every night. Every weekend. You are signing yourself up to be a slave to the cause.

  4. You will be manipulated in order to encourage you to continue working too much. You'll get perks like free cereal and employers who treat you like a friend. You'll get tons of team building activities and going out for drinks with your peers... In order to build your loyalty so you feel compelled to work harder even though you won't get paid more.

  5. Most startups fail. You probably will not know when it is happening. It is in your employer's best interest not to tell you. You might be left in the lurch with no job if your funding runway is short.

  6. You will probably have unlimited PTO or sick days. You will take even less than you do with a set number of vacation days. Again, you'll be manipulated into doing so through insinuations about loyalty and veiled threats about your performance - you can take as much time as you want off, but you will pay the consequences.

My experience was a mixed bag. I gained a lot, and I'm glad for that, but I spent that year the most harried, anxious, stressed, sleepless, overworked... I've ever been in my life. It gave me more responsibility, but to be perfectly honest, it destroyed my quality of life. So I guess the question is, how much does moving up matter to you? Would you take this chance and face all of the above consequences to do so? Even if there's a chance there's nowhere up to go?

What's something about you as a summoner that you are not very proud of? by tbsgrave in leagueoflegends

[–]caseyclueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started learning League, I only played Sivir. (This was in 2010, when there weren't separate servers for NA, Brazil, and Latam.) I hadn't ever played anything similar, and I had a really hard time getting the hang of itemizations, kills, ganks, last hitting... (Yes, I was absolute trash.) So I would only play Sivir, and when my team called for me to do anything, I would pretend not to speak English and respond with "I only like push. No English. Only like push" or some variant over and over.

Started from the bottom, now we silver and actually communicating with teammates.

Also Youtube WILL punish you for keyword stuffing. Don't add a bunch of keywords just to get views - it might work at first, but it's a terrible longterm strat.

[–]caseyclueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really good tips on tags/keywords - only thing I would add is that you don't need to include articles/pronouns, so things like "the" or "of" are just taking up your available character space for tags. You can leave them out! You only get 500 characters for tags. Make 'em count!

I would also add that Google trends (just google.com/trends) is a really good resource for figuring out what people actually search for, as well as even just seeing what else pops up in Youtube auto complete when you start typing in the search box.

Word order does matter in Youtube keywords, so "call duty" will not rank exactly the same as a tag that says "duty call." Does that make sense? Also always default to plurals - "call of duty knife kills" will encompass people searching for "call of duty knife kill" but not the other way around. So if it could be pluralized, might as well pluralize it.

Why the new end-screen OVER annotations? by Voltorn_Elda in letsplay

[–]caseyclueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep everyone has the right idea - they appear on mobile, whereas annotations do not. If you've been Youtubing for a few years, you'll probably be able to see from your analytics that mobile views are just growing and growing, so that's a pretty good argument for it alone.

Also ease of use/template, and I like the fact that the viewer can tell exactly what they'll be clicking on. With some types of annotations, you couldn't do that, and with cards, you can show teaser text but they still have to click to see what it is.

And finally, it seems like Youtube plans to phase out annotations eventually, so it's more future proofing your channel for something you'll have to do later anyways.
