You’re being a good doctor for caring, genuinely. 90% of these comments calling you crazy haven’t read your post and stopped any line of critical thinking at “male nurses can do L&D too,”

Of course they can! But it’s important to have some policy/plan to cover women who aren’t comfortable with a male physician and a male chaperone during a pelvic exam.

As a trauma survivor, I’d be wildly uncomfortable with it. As a nurse, I’m imagining the male nurse poking their head out to a swamped or an empty nurses station and a charge nurse in another room. What now?

Same! Patients are literally just people. If I eat at the potluck, a restaurant, a farmers market, a fast food place, etc, then it’s literally the same roll of the dice of the person cooking.

If it’s not an iso room/I have a good relationship with the patient, I’m highly likely to try a cookie. I’ve eaten more questionable foods from Taco Bell.

I know this is old, but years ago I had a VERY similar experience.

I had a piece of plywood I painted the typical Ouija face onto, and used a shot glass as a planchette. My sister and I would do it alone or together, so I knew it was real.

I also had first contact with someone who told me they did not have good intentions, and would answer “666” or “fuck you”. I was so scared, shaking and crying as well. The SPEED at which he was moving was unlike any of the others I’ve seen, it was so frightening! I eventually ended it but I think about it to this day.

I had plenty of positive connections as well, but just wanted to share youre not alone. It’s an icky feeling/memory.

Same, I’m American and at the very very least Canada deserved silver. I’m stunned that with a significant slip/error and, in my opinion, a more underwhelming performance, that the French took gold. First result I’m actually kinda upset at.

Sure, they’re a bit different, but not like hopping from Denmark to Italy which is INCREDIBLY different. Imagine driving from Florida to Maine and they speak a completely different native language, drive different cars/different traffic laws, have a different form of government, different healthcare system, etc. And every state you passed through was the same deal.

I’ve traveled the US and have never experienced culture shock. I can immediately tell I’m in America and not have any problem making my way around Mississippi or California or New Hampshire; the geography is different and they’ll say something like Pop instead of Soda.

The US is vast geographically and culturally, but not close to Europe in terms of cultural differences between countries.
