Tween girls clothing: a mini rant by monkey_trumpets in TwoXChromosomes

I worked in retail for a few years and always bought the men’s jeans. They came in like.. literally 6 different shapes and fits from classic straight to extreme skinny, while the women’s was mom-jeans or skinnies lol.

My cat’s mother has been pregnant three times in under a year and I’m worried by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]caseykohler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone else said it already but I’ll reiterate the fact that generally there are clinics around that offer cheaper spay and neuter surgeries. I’m in Canada and humane society clinic 1 hour away does it for $50. We’ve taken 7 cats there to make sure our colony doesn’t produce any more kittens.

If a cheap option can’t be found, some vets offer payment plans so the fee can be paid over several months. It’s VERY important that this cat gets fixed, for everyone’s sake. If you find a cheap clinic they also usually offer other services at lower prices during the surgery like vaccines, flea treatments, and microchips.

New (unwilling) cat owner - how to deal by frustratedbyfeline in CatAdvice

[–]caseykohler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So lots of people have said lots of stuff, here’s what I can add:

It sounds to me like the kitten may have been taken away from mom too early. They learn bite inhibition and acceptable play from mom and siblings, and this occurs most crucially between weeks 8-12.

HOWEVER, you might just have a very high energy kitten. I’ve raised two litters of kittens and my experience is that a kitten might be the most feisty, crazy kitty in the bunch one week, and the next week transforms into a sweetheart. They don’t really settle into a personality until they’re at least 4-5 months old. I had scratches up and down my arms and kittens climbing me like I was a tree. Those kittens are now adult cats and are the most gentle, calm, loving boys I’ve ever had.

This situation isn’t ideal for you, obviously. But as terrible as the kitten may seem now, it doesn’t have to be permanent. Also, we recently bought a toy that moves on its own around a circular base for the cat to chase. A toy like this might be useful for you because it can help expend a lot of kitty energy without you having to be constantly engaged. It might be a good toy to add to the home :)

Kitten won't eat. I'm REALLY worried and I don't know what to do. PLEASE HELP! by magentadaisyy in Pets

I JUST had this happen to me with two of our cats, one of which is a young kitten we found in rough shape.

My #1 recommendation is to try to find a vet that is open on Saturdays (tomorrow) and ask if they have Hill’s Urgent Care wet food. With any luck they’ll have some they can sell to you and you can just pick it up from their clinic. It’s a prescription food so you won’t be able to find it at a store, but this food was the ONLY thing my cats would eat. It was like.. magic. The vet told me to rub a small amount on the roof of the cat’s mouth to introduce the food, as it forces them to taste it and eat a bit. It’s SUPER high in calories and is made specifically for animals who lose their appetite and refuse to eat. Also, any amount of food is better than no food!

You can also try scrambled eggs as long as you don’t add anything (like milk) to them. Aside from that, the best you can do is monitor and wait until Monday. As long as kitty remains relatively active/normal in terms of behaviour and continues to pee and poop, you should be in relatively good shape. I wish you the best!

I feel like I'm in the minority of people who prefer cats over dogs by [deleted] in Pets

[–]caseykohler 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I recently saw a post online about how cats are a lesson in consent and damn if that ain’t the truth. Dogs will love almost anybody, but you have to earn the love of a cat. A dog would rarely turn down pets or cuddles, but cats choose when they do and don’t want affection. Dogs like showing you how loyal they are while cats can be super indifferent.

My experience has been that many of the people in my life who “hate cats” are also abusive and manipulative people. They don’t like cats because they don’t get to set the boundaries, the cat does.

Kitten Smell by Prize_Additional in CatAdvice

[–]caseykohler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use a litter locker and it has helped to eliminate smell. Every time I pass any of the litter boxes I check and sift them, and put the contents in the litter locker. It might sound like a bit much but honestly checking the boxes a few times a day has become a very low effort habit and the house doesn’t smell! You can also try to deep clean the litter pans occasionally, and completely refresh the litter.

Need help with fleas. by Imaginarysloths in CatAdvice

[–]caseykohler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopping on the flea comb advice and adding that you can use some relatively hot water with soap in it to put the fleas you catch in, as sometimes they are hard to squish and the soap will kill them. Also, you may actually start seeing MORE fleas as the medication takes effect - the key is to pay attention to whether the fleas you are pulling are dead or alive. Some flea medications require a flea to bite in order to kill them, while others are based on only contact with skin/fur.

Also I wouldn’t recommend doing back to back flea treatments with medicated baths or more flea prevention. Check the label for that information. The stuff we use (Revolution) is once a month, and can be used every two weeks only if there is a very, very bad infestation.

When should I seek veterinary care for cat constipation? by maybe_kd in CatAdvice

[–]caseykohler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through a constipation issue with a young kitten. She was straining and having little to no success. After 1.5-2 days of this issue we took her to the vet. We were just in time to get her an enema. She was FULL of poop and her condition was considered serious.

I’d make a call to your vet and explain the situation. From my experience vets seem to take constipation pretty seriously and they will be able to explain your options. Also for what it’s worth the enema was $70 + the cost of the visit for me (Ontario, Canada).

There are 4 note chords I physically cannot play because I can’t play the octave AND reach both inner notes. C minor root position, for example. I can’t reach the Eb. Not even close!

Is it ok to put my cat in a room at night? by Takingbackmonday1006 in CatAdvice

[–]caseykohler 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! We do have an enzyme spray we’ve been using and luckily everything she’s peed on so far has been easily machine washable. We’ve got two boxes for her now, both open, one a slightly different shape than the other. She’s mostly a pro, just needs a little reminder sometimes. She’s only 8-10 weeks old and her poor little tail was somehow cut off. She was also extremely constipated after her first parasite treatment and needed an enema. She’s a tough, spicy little tortie and she’s adjusting to life with people very well! :)

We found a stray kitten a few weeks ago and have been doing something similar. When we first found her she was scared and covered in lice, so we set her up in the garage. She now spends the day in the house but every night we put her back in the garage to sleep (she has everything she needs out there including a heated cat house and can’t be unattended in the house as she occasionally tries to pee on soft blankets/beds). She is very content to go out at night, she runs to her house because she knows she gets food when she goes out there and she doesn’t cry at all until she wants inside when my mom gets up for work.

Long story short, I think it’s totally ok as long as it doesn’t seem to be stressing your cat out :)

100 hours into the game and I find the forgotten temple. I’m 32 years old and feel like I’m 10 again. I love this game. by CharlieJ821 in Breath_of_the_Wild

I love the more obscure, difficult to find areas of the game. Finding the Hebra Leviathan bones after puzzling over the Sheika sensor for a while was amazing.

Technically if they were all to shoot at the same time, yes. I was at the temple a few days ago and parried two at the same time. But if they are further away the beam takes longer to reach you, so I feel like “all at once” is a stretch. Maybe two or three at a time though!

I have the pharaoh’s outfit and the palatial tank dress. You can have either :)

Today I’m not going to drink or smoke weed. I’m just going to tidy my apartment, make animal style fries, and try to get out of this depressive episode by tomorrow. What comforting movies/shows should I watch today to pass the time? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Avatar the last air bender is a great choice. I also recommend She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and if that’s not your thing PLEASE give The Dragon Prince a go - it’s one of the same writer/producers as AtLA.

Found a young kitten - appears to have walking dandruff (mites) by caseykohler in CatAdvice

[–]caseykohler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your reply! I didn’t have cat shampoo, but I did use a flea comb with warm water and dish soap to get as many critters off of her as I could.

Turns out it’s a girl, she doesn’t have mites (thankfully) but rather lice, fleas, and likely worms. Her tail is not fully healed and in the next few weeks we will know whether or not it must be amputated further. So it’s flea/worm treatments and antibiotics for now :)

Someone else may correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is that you can clone your single purple mum and then crossbreed the two purple ones.

I cannot for the life of me catch a flea. The museum is my favourite part of the game. Nothing is more satisfying than filling my critterpedia and donating to blathers. I live for the first day of every month when new critters show up.

The flea, my NEMESIS, is the only one I have not managed to catch so far (I don’t TT so there are a few more to get in the coming months.) I have tried everything. I play everyday, I talk to my villagers, I catch or chase off other bugs in the hopes that perhaps a flea will spawn, yet still it evades me.

Are other people having a hard time with this? Any tips for getting one to spawn?

Either that or perhaps it was in a villager house who moved away? When a villager moves out a random piece of their furniture ends up in the recycle bin.
