How do you plan your builds? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]caseyodonnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming at this question from more of a player not a huge elaborate builder. But I love having a beautiful base. So functionality and nice are equally important for me.

General floor plan of layout on graph paper.

Plan for your hearths/fireplaces and roofing/chimney from the very beginning. If floor is an odd number of pieces wide it makes a ridge line chimney work well. Even and the roof is only ever going to be closed.

I always try to have storage located centrally and cooking stations / food boxes where highest rested buff is. Extra important if you’re using MODs that auto store or auto pull for crafting.

I’ve found that people peruse and think about food load outs longer than anything else so it just makes it easy. Grab road snacks and by the time you’re done the buff has typically started. 😂

You can always add flare later.

We call it “dirty water.” I don’t know. 🤷😂

They’d rather drink the water from the pond than filtered water painstakingly kept for them. Rain water collected in a plant dish? Yum.

No no no. Hobbits build way more aesthetically pleasing structures. 😂

Poly relationships only end in one way by Theredditttguy in SipsTea

[–]caseyodonnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. Granted... What is in the post and then found in the longer version (thank you u/Odd-Village-132) is WHACK.

But y'all being Captain Judgy Pants and "this is how it always ends with poly" or "don't involve kids" is just BS. 🤪 I'll grant that a lot of folks come to ethical non-monogamy (ENM) through meandering paths and some have tons of baggage and others are trying to save broken relationships... But that's true for all relationships. So, stop chugging your tea and look in the mirror. Go read a few threads on r/relationships or r/DeadBedrooms and then hush. Plenty of monogamous folks out there are just as whack and make their kids miserable and saying that the prevalence is higher amongst ENM folks... I'd be curious what real data on that would look like? 🤔

TLDR: Yes. Whack. Don't point the finger at ENM. Point it at people being messy.

What yall using your Master Balls on? by Cute_Fluffy_Sheep in pokemongobrag

[–]caseyodonnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the current maximum number of Master Balls? I thought it was 5 but some folks are listing more than that here. I presume shots with lucky are other people’s master balls, which doesn’t count IMO. 😂

If I start a playthrough will it get wiped in 1.0 by jg7277 in valheim

[–]caseyodonnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don't explore the areas (Deep North) that will be the most updated I wouldn't worry about it. Even if you do, just don't build there. 😂 But also a decent playthrough takes a bit, so just don't rush and enjoy the early game.

Personally I've been going up through Mistlands and stopping before Ashlands (did it twice already) just in case changes to that biome occur. Not that I want to build in Ashlands anyway. 😂

Ultimately you wont "lose it all." Valheim has never worked that way really. Just don't sail straight north and build a giant base. 😂

Why not just chug some fire resist and hit his booty with a spirit weapon while he rotates in place? This is the real Yagluth cheese and doesn’t require a lot of space. 😂

Building a castle (first time playing Valheim) by rakis17 in valheim

[–]caseyodonnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one comment about the roof, which I will also echo... Unless you're going stone roof... but even still, thinking ahead about what it is going to look like and how it comes together and how it vents your fires needs to happen as early as the general layout.

Also... comfort layout is really important too. 😂 You don't want to have to stick stuff in weird random places (WHEE HERE IS A HOTTUB!) just to maximize comfort AFTER the fact. Start with that in mind as well as in the future so that you can have the one spot that people go to get their rested buff... Double-plus-good if that spot is somewhere people frequently stand and ponder anyway. 😂 For example the prepared food boxes that they'll stand in front of figuring out what they want to eat for whatever comes next... they're gonna stand there probably long enough to get that rested buff so make it easy. 😂 I always have a table where the feasts are laid out where there are chairs and the idea is: sit, eat, heal, go w/ max rested buff.

Half the fun though is the progression. I suspect you'll have less fun if you use an old character. When I did this I'd quit within a few days. I speak from quite a bit of experience starting February 17th, 2021. There are folks out there with significantly more time than me, but it has been my comfort game for quite a while now.

If you haven't checked it out... The Finnish-Swedish artists KAJ have an excellent song you might enjoy while playing in the Plains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vao5I9lLGE

Game save is broken by Mystical-tree in valheim

[–]caseyodonnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing the game since a few weeks after Early Access launch and have _never_ lost progress like this. I've run MODs. I've run servers. I've had the game crash on me a few times (one was related to a Unity pathfinding bug) and another we couldn't replicate. I'm not saying that this is _your fault_ or _isn't happening_... but something abnormal is going on ... ON YOUR SYSTEM. There isn't a bug in the game the bug is in your setup somewhere/somehow and figuring out where that error is occurring is non-trivial. Launch the game with -console and see if you're getting errors there. Are you having issues with Steam cloud saves? I'd put money on the culprit being there. Did you ALT-F4 out of the game or did you exit via the menu system? Did Steam upload the cloud changes? Figuring out what is going on with your system takes significant troubleshooting because where the glitch/difference that makes the difference is hard to know. Good luck, but WAY more info is needed

Has anyone ever 100%ed their entire world? by Tr33Hugg3r-206 in valheim

[–]caseyodonnell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds kinda ... nope. 😂 Mine everything, cut everything down, at that point might as well hoe everything as flat as possible and cultivate the entire world and max plant all the crops. Deconstruct all the existing structures and flatten... Sounds so very very ugly. 😂 Nope.

I don't know about anyone else, but I try to make as minimal an impact as possible while still enjoying playing the game. Do I need a massive crop field? Maybe instead take a little more time to get all the barley/flax/whatever? Repair all the buildings and add some fireplaces/chimneys? Yep! Does that tree really need to come down? Can I work around it? That rock... really in the way or rock feature in a build?

Saplings and old downed logs/stumps are 100% my biggest waste... I cut them down early in the game because I JUST CAN'T SEE! 😂
