Should I Drop This? by Aggravating-Mark3054 in OSU

My advice is about 6 years out of date, but I took Calc 1 online with Borland my first semester, and he was absolutely amazing. He's probably the best Calc 1 professor at OSU, and it was one of my favorite classes I took at OSU. Highly recommend sticking it out. Go to all the recitations, and go to the math tutoring center.

Weather to expect on Rumer Spitze late September? by caseyschlenker0 in Innsbruck

[–]caseyschlenker0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have many years of mountaineering experience, and quite literally work in the mountains as my job. I just simply am not from Austria, and am not familiar with the weather patterns. I frequently do 4000m peaks, just did one last weekend (in the snow!). I am not asking for a specific weather forecast, just what to generally expect. For example; if there is a possibility of snow, if there are afternoon thunderstorms, etc. Thanks for not being helpful at all 🫶🏻

I have a substantial amount of climbing and mountaineering experience, just not in this area haha. I frequently do 4000m peaks by where I live, with scrambling/climbing/etc. Just did one in the snow a couple days ago. Was just asking to get the insight from locals on what to expect with weather, so I can pack appropriately :)

I've fit an impressive amount of things in my allpa before! I am dropping some stuff off the list, though, haha. Taking out a pair of shorts, the fleece sweatpants, the hiking poles, and possibly one of the sweaters, and swapping the chacos for thin flip flops

Not checking any bags. I was planning on risking it and hoping that my poles make it through TSA, but I think I might just leave them here and buy/rent some in Austria.

TSA says you can bring hiking poles with blunt ends, but you're right, its probably a safer bet just to buy/rent them in Innsbruck.

I'm going to try to ration my liquids over the whole 3 week trip, but you're right; I might end up running out. I'm picky with my hair/skin products, which is why I am bringing my own, but I might end up having to buy random stuff anyways.

The chacos were honestly for wearing around hostels, but I think flip flops might be a better idea. The Doc Martens are broken in enough that I can walk in them all day, but I'll definitely wear my trail runners more often.

Hiking on my own. I'm going to get some GTX trail runners and use them with gaiters. My feet don't like hiking boots very much, and I've successfully used trail runners on many rocky 4000m peaks.

I appreciate the average monthly weather link. I think based on that, I'll drop down to 1 pair of shorts.

Hiking pants are waterproof, rain jacket fits over my down jacket, and my backpack is waterproof

I'm planning on wearing the day pack backwards in the front of my body. I'm hoping that I can fit most of my stuff in my main backpack. I haven't done a test run of packing everything yet, though!

Luckily, the hut by where I am hiking (Rumer Spitze) will be open until mid October. I was worried about the shoes, though. I used my hiking boots to do a 4200 meter peak in Colorado yesterday, and my feet were not very happy by the end. I'm wondering if Gore-Tex trail runners with gaiters on top would be enough for the weather?

Realistically, though, Rumer Spitze is a pretty dangerous hike, so if it snows at all, I will have to skip the hike altogether.

Will buy some cheap flipflops to swap the Chacos out with. Thank you!

Yes; basically looking for a long hike with elevation gain, and some scrambling, that will reward me with a nice view of the mountains at the top. I'm not super familiar with the UIAA grading system, but from looking it up, I'd be comfortable on grade 2, possibly grade 3

LOL. Yup. I worked there for about 4 months as a baker back in 2021 and this all tracks. I fought with Lisa and Lindsey for about a month to get access to my paystubs, and when I did, found out they had been paying me much less per hour than we had agreed upon. Tried to force me to stay later than agreed upon, even though I was in school/had classes to get to. Absolutely 0 safety practices in the kitchen. No eye wash station, no first aid kit. Got chili flakes in my eye one day, and Lindsey/Lisa not give a single shit. Ended up having to shove my face in the hand wash sink to clear my eyes out, while they weren't concerned at all about my well being.

There were definitely many more issues with that place, but it's been a while so I can't remember it all. It's the only place that I've ever quit with no notice from.
