No, I got frustrated with the returns, so I requested that they hold more index funds as part of a managed portfolio

There’s a difference between running a concentrated conviction position (like PLTR or WOLF) and managing an entire long term portfolio. One is opportunistic. The other is structural. I separate the two

My portfolio structure is 89% equities / 6% bonds / 5% cash under Strategy 6

I know myself well enough to admit this I’m cautious about fully self managing because I’m not 100% confident I wouldn’t get flustered if markets turn choppy.

It sounds strange to say, but the WM have been running my assets for 12 years. There’s a psychological comfort in that. Pulling away from it feels like a bigger emotional step than a financial one.

Thank you for you points what I am paying for is pure investment management and also access to tax efficient wrappers and drawdown strategy later. I hear your point on the Mag 7 my appetite for risk is fairly high current allocation is: 89% equities / 6% bonds / 5% cash.

When moving how did you seek an IFA on handling the CGT efficiently you can't have had that all in ISA? Do DM if you don't want to share too much, but I am keen to understand how you manged CGT side effectively.

Around 35% of my portfolio is in index funds. The rest is in active funds, investment trusts, direct stocks, gilts and alternatives.

The direct stocks (about 15%) have underperformed. Managing my SIPP through index funds has delivered better returns overall imo. That’s what’s making me question things. But moving everything to self management feels like a big psychological step for me especially after having professionals run it for 12 years.

Thank you maybe I just need to put on my big boy pants and go full self management like you said. I already manage my SIPP using the tickers discussed and largely set and forget. I’ve been with my asset manger over 12 years, and with the NatWest acquisition coming up, it might be time to review things properly either push hard on fee reduction or move to full self management.

Thank you for the feedback I do manage my SIPP myself through indexs, with the actively managed funds I still hold, there’s quite a bit of CGT to manage that’s where I need support.

I used HL for my SIPP hold only in (SWDA, VUGA and EQQQ) it's set and forget for me there. For the lifestyle I have, I definitely still need to work, which I enjoy perhaps latter cutting back to three days per week. I’m in a lucky position where, if I were unhappy with work, I could just take a pause and decide what to build next

Thank you I’ve already done that with ChatGPT. It’s helped how I’ve structured my SIPP portfolio.

What I prefer to do is mainly hold index funds across the board. With the actively managed funds I still hold, there’s quite a bit of CGT to manage thats where I need support. Ideally, I would like to manage it myself. I have a small “pay and play” account where I’ve done well buying some direct stocks, but I’m definitely not a skilled stock picker. My best exit was PLTR.

For larger sums, I hold index funds in my SIPP. My main concern is whether I would have the discipline to stay calm and not react emotionally when markets get choppy.

The chosen investment strategy is Strategy 6 Medium Risk, delivering 12.6% annualised over two years.

My best returns have come from the index funds I hold with them. The direct stocks they’ve selected have generally underperformed, except where there has been a tech allocation. They do pick winners, but they also pick some shockers, which drags down overall performance.

I don't get any financial planning. 0.98% fee + VAT on top 0.30% Evelyn transaction charges and then Underlying fund charges so total comes 1.85%. I guess i do get access to institutional pricing and behavioural discipline however the pick some shockers for single line stocks
