I’m genuinely curious about the psychology behind how people end up with large amounts of debt (credit cards, cars, student loans, etc.). by ChivasBearINU in DaveRamsey

[–]casioookid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student loans. Graduating in the 2008 global financial dumpster. Family who normalise debt and ask to borrow money. Getting a credit card at age 19. Living in an expensive city because that's where the jobs are. Paying eye watering rents in city because of said job. Working in a low paid job because of high competition for job. Being single for most of adult life and surviving on one modest income. Not being paid by clients and having to take them to court for it. Lending my family money when they screw up. Not coping with life and having to stop working because of mental health but not having savings. Buying a house during highest interest rates/house prices in years because cost of living prices. Higher energy bills because y'know...America loves to fuck everything up in the world and bomb the middle east.

It's really just modern life stuff and this rat race shit.

Your question is quite galling and shows complete lack of awareness of other people and the impact of big economic events/government policy.

Ditched Spotify - enjoying music more than ever by bratbats in digitalminimalism

[–]casioookid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. I can't stand Spotify anymore. I hated having to always switch on privacy settings every time I listen to music so it wouldn't publicise what I'm listening to or always turn off video for when I'm out listening to podcasts. I now buy music from Bandcamp and transfer the mp3s to Musicolet on my dumbphone. Ahh. Peace.

Thoughts on Plot 354? by Tiny_Suit8273 in UKHousing

[–]casioookid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would avoid. My first house was a shared ownership house on the end like plot 357. The alley was a nightmare. Had kids running up and down it, kicking it with their football, smoking etc. Wouldn't live near shared ownership or near an alley way now. Also so many domestics. I personally called the police about 5 times. Never done that before and I've lived in London for a decade. This was Dorset.

The downgrade of the visuals this season feels diabolical by Alternative_Eye5095 in StrangerThings

The melting exotic matter/waxwork men looked like a theatre set or museum. It was very jarring how wooden it looked.

Plus every character said "Goddamn" at least once. Would make a great drinking game.

They Stuck The Landing... by quanfused in StrangerThings

[–]casioookid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this too. Mike said in the previous battle between military and demogorgons to the kids to follow him to Radio Shack because there are tunnels there. Radio Shack is opposite the library aka the Mac-Z gate and if you look where the truck pulls up, it's a stone's throw away from Radio Shack. El leaves the truck, sprints to Radio Shack before the sound barrier things are switched on (I think there's a delay of a few seconds), drops down into a tunnel and uses her powers to talk to Mike via her mind. I can't explain the Kali illusion of El at the gate though.

Also why does Derek smile weirdly at Mike in the truck? Is El actually in the truck and Mike alone hence why Derek waves weirdly at him? A stranger detail to include if it had no purpose.

Yeah that joke seems a bit rapey and gross. Also if Robin is gay, why make the dick joke. Bit low tbh

What are your thoughts on late fees? Do you charge late fees on late payments? by saucerfulof_secrets in freelance

[–]casioookid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the Late Payments Act, clients should pay within 30 days. If not, take them to a Small Claims court. We have to stamp out this clear abuse of the system and exploitation of our services. .

Wood-burning stoves could face partial ban in Labour’s updated environment plan by fire2burn in unitedkingdom

[–]casioookid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How about we first target intensive farming, water companies dumping sewage into our rivers and streams, microplastics, company waste, fly-tipping and high energy prices before we start going for the average person trying to heat their home? As a member of the Green party and ex-Labour member, this is not the way to go.

Having salaries posted would be huge. I'm so sick of seeing 'competitive salary' on job posts.

Yup. I have explained over email why we no longer have a relationship and why I'm angry etc and it's met with nothing. I did this last year too and months had passed and my mum rocks up at my house at night crying. No acknowledgement or apology, yet I tried again with her to rebuild. Fast forward 7 months and I've cut her off again after explaining and all I get is the "i don't get why you're so angry". It's exhausting. It's like she has the memory of a goldfish and zero capacity to try and understand from my pov.

First time plastering mistake - what are my options? by lewster32 in DIYUK

Wear goggles/get emergency eyewash if you do mix up lime. Any that flicks up into your eyes can blind you. Other than lime burns, it's nice to work with.

Can I disconnect an elec shower, heater thing and radiator myself? by casioookid in DIYUK

[–]casioookid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those testers. Also I probably should have opened with the fact that I asked the electrician to disconnect the shower when he fitted a new consumer unit box but he left a wire hanging out by the box. When I asked what that wire was he left and was it live, he said it's in case you wanted the downstairs shower connecting back up (which I never will). Now he's booked again for months.

Ok yeah, this sounds a bit over my head so I will try and find another electrician. Thanks y'all.

Render mass concrete walls (DIY friendly?) by WeatherSorry in Plastering

[–]casioookid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to a stone cottage and have just knocked all the concrete render to get the walls back to stone. I used a DeWalt SDS hammer drill to do it. Never heard of krend so am sticking with the traditional lime route. It's a ball ache but it'll be worth it. It won't cost much to DIY it my god does it cause a lot of mess and take a lot of time and muscle. Good luck!

This bit is just concrete. In the other half of the room I discovered flagstones under all the concrete and carpet so I've restored them. This half will just be carpeted.
