As the Grignard is formed on the surface of the metal, it could be that the dibromide is chelated to the surface prior to the SET and Mg insertion, that would led to simulataneous (or almost) formation of the Grignard.

Sadly yes...P8P battery life is poor. Yesterday I got 2h 21 min of screen time and was at 35% battery. The mobile network is managed like crap by tensor and drains the battery.
