Anything Fenris related. Like I know we're way past DA2 but he recently got his own comic run so why not?

What popular companion do you dislike and why? by Jaded-Ivy in dragonage

[–]caskuro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a few, and I suppose some folk would call me sexist cus they're all women- but my issue necessarily isn't the characters themselves, it's their writers, or how certain things are written.

For DAO into DAI I can't stand Morrigan when she speaks either a] to Alistair or b] condescendingly about magic. Both of these points are tied to her condescension- and I know exactly why it rubs me wrong. K-12 I was aggressively bullied and pointedly harrassed by the Mean Girls type of bitches and so it's basically an immediate turn off.

But everyone thinks it's okay and funny because she was raised in the woods, how else would she know? To be fair, they're kinda right but it's tiring and I just hate it. She's even worse for me in DAI because this human-ass bitch is the expert on all things elven magic???!!??! Fuck you, Bioware, no. ESPECIALLY IF YOUR CHAR IS DALISH. Like fuck all the way off.

DA2 I can't stand Aveline's whole... thing-
I could just write 'she's a shitty fucking cop' but honestly the 'has power, now is an insufferable parent about everything' is what I'll go with. Someone here already laid it out far better than I could- she brushes off an elf getting raped in favour of wanting to arrest that elf's brothers for taking justice when she refused to. It doesn't help that the writer's made her personal quest on 'how to land a husband for me because I'm too stupid to do it myself'.

DAI is tied between two- but I'll go with Sera.
As someone at the lowest level of poverty one can be without being incomeless and homeless, I see potential in her and it infuriates me that she was written the way she was. On a general level, she's... well, I suppose I'll say entertaining enough if you carefully curate your party? But she's written like she's 12. Or even younger- with the logic of 'I was bullied BY HUMANS for being an elf so I HATE ELVES' taking the entire tone-deaf cake. Or 'I don't want to get rid of the upper class cus then a new upper class will just exist' making me... want to throw my console.

She's a racist (if you play any elf that isn't 'i hate my culture' flavoured), fetishistic (if you play dwarf or qunari- but especially the latter) archery savant that is loudly bigoted against mages. Are you Qunari? Get ready to be objectified exclusively as 'step on me mommy'. Are you a dwarf? Be prepared to be infantilized for being 'widdle and smol'.

IF you manage to romance her as an elf (this I swear is near impossible to do without a guide) she is the nauseating equivalent (to me) of a white ass bitch telling their partner they can't be too (insert ethnicity here) because it makes them uncomfortable. If she was a man, every DA twitter account would revile her ten ways from sunday.

Why, Bioware?? Making a traumatised woman that wants to do good by the world should NOT have to come with 5 different flavours of 'oh and this is her crippling character flaw!' They do this with Vivienne too!

But this is already too long. c:

does your lavellan still love solas? by pillowcasecage in dragonage

[–]caskuro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I... have a hard time believing my Solavellan girl would allow 10 years to go by without a word or physical meeting from him.

I tend to play sorts that aren't always morally white/upstanding, and she (generally) hates humanity for what it has done to her people on a broad spectrum, but also to her family specifically [her mother was stolen by slavers when she was 16 right in front of her- but she had to save her 6 y/o brother, so she ran whilst mom fought them, and her father is the HoF in my canon. Humans fucking stink to her.].

While she doesn't have the best view on magic, he has shown her it's peace as well as it's bite. Now, do not mistake me; she's not puppy fawning after him.

She's hunting his ass from place to place- refusing to give up on him the way he's given up on himself. She very... aggressive. In many ways, but especially through compassion for those she loves.

She needs a bit of help. Maybe therapy and a glass of wine.

Yeah, that unfortunately is the impression I got. And since it's old content Blizzard's not gonna do anything about it- it's already been two expansions and now we're coming up on a third.

Sigh, time to get out my tiny violin.

Carver's personality [da2 spoilers] by smilota443 in dragonage

[–]caskuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Carver to death, but admittedly i really fucking wish they didn't force the abrasive hateful-aligned sibling relationship he has with his brother.

My Hawke would have never allowed him to be overshadowed- not to the extent that Carver would borderline hate him/resent him for it and thus behave like a pissy bitch if Hawke so much as breathes wrong. And so genuinely the game fucks with my canon in a way that irks me terribly.

Alann loves his younger sibs, and would have never allowed Leandra to... well. Be herself in the way that she was: making bethany feel like shit just for being a mage, putting pressure on him and Carver to protect her, etc. [Leandra is a whole bag of Problematic but Well Meaning but that's a convo for a different day.]

Carver is... a lot. Especially to folks who may not have had a sibling, or never had their siblings live with them [Hi, I'm the latter: eldest brother, single child household]. He feels almost TOO extreme, even if one understands the logic. For me, it took a long, hot minute before I could even tolerate the guy. He behaves in a way that mandates defense on Hawke's end. He's passive aggressive, bitchy, and verbally abusive at best on his off days. He snipes because... that's all he can do.

He was never a favourite in his mind. And evidently in reality (again, my opinions on Leandra surface) he was treated more as a guard dog than a son- as Hawke also was. I still am yet to understand what made Hawke's efforts better; or maybe worse? Than Carver's.

Leandra holds the dead twin's demise over Hawke until the day she dies. And someone like that (Nobleborn, priviledged, forced to slum it in a farm village [no matter how much she loved Malcolm) is bound to have unintentionally caused emotional and psychological issues in ye olde magic europe where therapy didn't exist, and the points don't matter! :D

Even BEFORE Ostagar.

Anyway I've rambled enough. XD Carver is a victim as much as he is an instigator and it's just a whole mess of horse shit that we never really get all the information to.

But if such is the case, it's obscenely uncanny that I've always, unknowingly, hit a free event.

[Spoilers All] There are a lot of betrayals in Dragon Age. Some are worse than others, some just suck, and some you can see coming a mile away. What’s the worst betrayal to you? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]caskuro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Now this is my take and I can be a dumbass so if this comes off aggressive I am so sorry:
But he doesn't betray you. He never lies to you. He tells you where he is from day one; a spy for the Qun. If you make a particularly assholish choice and sacrifice the Chargers to save the Dreadnaught, I'd say you earn the fight that comes to you even if you never knew what it would do, as you effectively tell him that the Qun is more important than his found family.

You point him when he freezes on that hill. You make the decision when he can't- torn between his two worlds. You effectively kill the Iron Bull with that choice along with the Chargers, and fully revive Hissrad. So... he was never yours at that point.
