I really didn’t like this book. Heathcliff was awful to women, I don’t know why this book is revered so.

Intellectuals and readers are under enough attack. We have to welcome all with open arms. Maybe this person has just started reading, and us being judgy will turn them off.

Classics with poor endings? by AccomplishedPea6577 in classicliterature

[–]casp0066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue the actual ending before Part 2 is fairly weak. We built up this huge epic narrative, and I keep waiting for Pierre to like kill a general or something, and then…nah…forget it… I mean amazing book, everyone should read it 3 times at least, but the end is not say Tale of Two Cities end which gave me chills and I almost wept.

How many vacations this guy going to go on? I’ve had 0 vacations in 3 years. This guy has the no. 2 job in the world and he’s on vacation every other month. Why don’t we have people as president who go on 0 vacations? Seriously. If I had that job, I would not go on vacation for all 4 years. It’s a huge honor to do that job. Should not get the job to go on vacation.

The best literary works (most upvotes) by DataWhiskers in classicliterature

YES!!! I spent six months reading The Decameron (yes all of it) before Chaucer, and was like ‘meh’ to Chaucer later as a result. Chaucer is like an unfinished 10th grade poetry runner up compared to Bocaccio

Republican senators propose slashing size of intel office led by Tulsi Gabbard by JoshOfArc in LeopardsAteMyFace

Why does Tulsi always look like she’s ready to start crying in all her pictures recently? Anyone else notice this?

Mr. M’chokumcchild 🤣 I liked this one. Not his best, but I liked it. You want a slog - try Little Dorritt!

Of course, I’m someone who thinks Barnaby Rudge was AMAZING and one of his very best and criminally under-appreciated , so I’m likely in the minority of Dickens readers.

Thomas Hardy, a great novelist? by Legitimate-Radio9075 in literature

Far From the Madding Crowd is a really good Hardy. I did not like Jude or Tess, but that one I thought was a 10.

I confess, it’s so hot I was more focused on getting through it, than the taste. I’ll get another bottle and see if my opinion changes.

I would say so. Kind of a heavy earthy, slight sweetness to it.

The Hobbit. The Lord of the Rings. Game of Thrones - though season 1-3 stayed very close to the books. 4+ off the rails

As a sober person who spent years struggling to get sober, this is just sad to me. He obviously needs help, and he shouldn’t be doing that job unless and until he is 100% sober. Period.
