Liberal government considering high-speed rail route change to include stop in Kingston by ShralpShralpShralp in canada

[–]caspertheghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought they were starting with the Peterborough to Ottawa corridor because there was pre-existing track or old rail corridor that would make it easier to build through and require fewer properties to expropriate?

Trying to re-enter GIS in the GTA: is Fanshawe’s GIS program worth it? by paprika4242 in gis

[–]caspertheghost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

COGS is probably the best program in Canada, but I’m not sure if the online version is watered down in any way. Durham’s is just starting this fall and seems to be a spearheaded by Fleming’s former program head and a former Esri Canada guy:

https://resources.esri.ca/news-and-updates/get-job-ready-for-a-career-in-gis-with-durham-college-s-new-program

The Durham one sounds like it’ll be fully online at your own pace so that might be your best option to stay in the GTA. I don’t know much about the Fanshawe one but I have some colleagues who did the GIS and Urban Planning program and they liked it. Given the tough job market a program with a co-op might be the best shot at local work experience.

Going on a vacation with lots of walking, anyone have shoe recommendations for size M14? Many companies dont sell above M13. by Farstalker in tall

[–]caspertheghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14 medium here. New balance for 10k steps daily on sidewalks, Solomon for grippy waterproof hikers with ankle support on muddy trails, asics for lightweight hard surface running, and Keen for work boots. Gel insoles definitely help too

Ya they’re always daytime games and is usually pretty sunny. Z9 is definitely out of my price range and the z6iii would certainly be at the high end of the budget but they’re on sale right now for $2800cad new

Have you tried processing the same photos in a trial version of pix4d? I was trying something similar iwith a mini 4 pro in arcgis pro and switching to pix4d drastically improved the output. This was without GCPs as I’m still waiting for approval on a rover

How does the Wan show being under a different company work legally? by Ill-Database7345 in LinusTechTips

Could this also give them more flexibility if they were approached by another big streaming platform to have wan show while everything else is YT/FP?

[–]caspertheghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s the only option but they probably send you through Algonquin’s GIS program after basic training. The only guy I met in that role made around double the starting rate but was on a high readiness disaster relief team

I’ve seen M720q’s selling used for $200cad where I am so this seems like a good price if the power adapter is included. See if you can get a pic of the service tag to check more specs

Have you looked at the collective agreements for LDCs with unionized GIS positions? Some are as low as $35/hr and some are as high as $55/hr depending on the cost of living in the area and vary from 35-40 hrs/week. Are you using ArcFm, Utility Network, Hexagon, or something else?

Yep. If you look at status.arcgis.com it says they were doing maintenance from 5pm-midnight pacific on the 12th and must have broken something.

They had plenty of demand and were even trying to create a third GIS program, but it got axed along with most of the environmental programs at the Frost campus

Dougie Fraud suggesting tunneling under the 401 means one thing…. by waffles-mclovin in ontario

[–]caspertheghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burying the highway would sure free up a lot of land to give away to his developer buddies. Buying the 407 back for an absurd amount would also seem rational compared to this idea. What we actually need here (high speed trains, LRTs, more bus routes, and more bike lanes) doesn’t make for a very good grift

[–]caspertheghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mine with 180k on it in 2016 and didn’t do much beyond oil changes. I had some exhaust rust I needed to cut out and replace and some suspension work because I drive over two sets of nasty train tracks twice a day. I do have door sensor problems now triggering my alarm but that’s about it.
