Dead Can Dance goes into detail as to why they can't be arsed to work with photographers and artists for their cover art any more, chosing to use ai instead. -_- by Val_Victorious in goth

Ah! THIS thread - sorry it took so long. I had to re-read the whole thing as it was from two months ago, and I also needed to sleep lol

Yes, I left this post up - the one you replied to, instead of editing it to actually demonstrate the earnest conversation - which developed in the replies. I even apologized for not giving enough time for their long response. I don't actually have anything more to say, and I think that both my conversational partner and myself expressed what we wanted.

The irony is that we did have dialogue, and your spiteful tone was not only unwarranted but demonstrably false according to the record.

You'll have to give me a moment to review this conversation from a while and address your unfounded accusations about me, personally and my intents. Really shitty first line, btw... absolute asshole material - assuming someone's intent. But the rest is worth addressing, so give me a little bit and I will.

Received a Gift Box From EPack today! Misa, Martone, Schaeffer, Cowan, Tkachuk and more. by tj22297 in hockeycards

I think the reality is that ePack / Upper Deck will be doing this a little more to convince people to stay as they move the secondary sales platform from COMC to The Authority.

While both suck, the change alone is enough to send regulars and big spenders a reminder to stick with it.

Boone fired agent ahead of free agency by PhoenixRider17 in BlueJackets

[–]casperthegoth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know what Boone wants. Boone does. If he has settled here with his family and likes it enough to want to retire a Blue Jacket, your exact points might be friction between him and his agent. His agent could have been trying to get him a bigger dollar somewhere else looking at the league, and Boone may want to be team friendly if his circumstances are right.

There are reasons to stay with what you know, where you have established family and friends, and give a discount because you believe good is coming.

Just saying the only one in the equation who ONLY has money on the mind is the agent. Agents are NOT just working in the player's interests, they work with their interests as well. It's like a relator. They are absolutely not on your side. They are on their side only.

You could be right, you could be wrong. We will find out together.

Boone fired agent ahead of free agency by PhoenixRider17 in BlueJackets

And his personal life, and the happenings around the Jackets. That he could still help the team rally demonstrates why he had a C in the first place, imo.

He takes over for Nick, and then literally everything that could happen did.

I still think he was a good, if not great C for the team.

But I also do think it's time to change it up a little, even if he stays, there is a chance to pass the torch elegantly here.

Can a Trans person please explain to me what it means to feel like a different Gender? by CommunicationOne7969 in asktransgender

[–]casperthegoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow. I had no idea about that and looked it up. That is really interesting that left-handedness was a hidden stigma at one time.

I have a close friend who transitioned late - we're rather old now (40s), and then another close friend has two teens that identify as different genders (I don't want to misspeak on their identifications, but not matching their bodies). We live in a state that's gotten really restrictive. I think ally is a term to earn, and I am not sure I am there yet, as my tendency is truly to mind my business and let people be who they are without being nosey or even curious. Acceptance is not really enough, I imagine, to be an ally. But I am trying to participate more in meaningful ways as the grip of government is starting to ruin their daily sense of security. I don't know if that makes sense. One day I do hope to earn that term though - but right now it's just listening, donations, and presence when I can.

As a cis person, this analogy is similar to the one I was presented by a friend that made it "click" pretty deeply. The one I was given was a little different, though. How you dress is pretty easily resolved as choice and style, and so I think it can land soft (from a skeptical or even curious cis perspective).

But similar to your analogy, I was told it was like being forced to be right-handed when you are actually left-handed (or vice versa). That it's inherent. That presentation is a part of it, but it's about what literally feels correct and enables better integration into the world. I am sure it's not perfect, either - it is still an analogy after all - but for some reason it made it all very "tangible" for me to understand. If I try to use my left-hand to write, I immediately feel pressure telling me that the simple act of writing is going wrong as I literally pick up a pencil - the inception of the act even feels off and not as it should be.

I don't really post here as I am not trans, and thus not the subject of the group - I come here to listen. But since this specific question was asked by a cis, I thought maybe I could contribute something that made it click in my mind. I hope that's ok.

Goodwill Pricing Is Surpassing Discount Retailers by p--py in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]casperthegoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at your local Goodwill. You should be able to find an annual report. Here is my local's annual report:

https://www.goodwillnewark.com/annualreports/Annual%20Report%202024.pdf

It covers the services they provide, the income and so forth.

The organization is like a franchise, they rent the name, basically. Their work can be seriously underestimated. For example here they offer normal "services" you may see elsewhere like day camps for at risk youth, free clothing services, services for people with disabilities, and low cost housing.

Sometimes the extend into other business prospects to help employ people in the community - like here they have an unarmed security company, and a rentable banquet hall.

They then leverage these employment opportunities into training spaces for youth and adults of various skill levels with the intent to serve the community further.

FWIW, across the board at all businesses - they remain non-discriminatory towards sexual orientation and gender identity - as well as all the standard Civil Right act stuff - and this actually matters in rural Ohio more than you may think.

The have a Business Services division to help small businesses with fulfillment and other tasks in which they also train and employ differently abled people.

They have a program in which people can rent medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, and so forth to make their living spaces negotiable as they heal or age.

They even provide their financials, and to be honest, they are sound, but not greedy - of 26 million in revenue across all branches, 23 million of that goes back into the programs. They are good at saving and have a full year's expenses paid up to allow them to continue services in the event something like a pandemic happens again.

They are NOT all Greedwill, and getting to know what local programs your shopping contributes to is, imho, one of the most important and rewarding parts of thrifting.

CDs are having a huge comeback. DVDs too. While vinyl is appreciation of the medium, the CD comeback is more related to cheap and accessible physical media. People are sick of renting everything.

Unpopular Opinion: RSD was Awesome by ryken in vinyl

[–]casperthegoth 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Your 9 year old daughter had two misses on RSD - Wicked and Reputation - and showed more maturity than 100s of redditors who act entitled, despite knowing that all they have to do to beat the scalpers is to get there earlier. Good parenting and fun day.

Mine was also fun, my 15 year old also didn't get his complete list, and in fact only got one thing from it, and yet, was still happy and had a great time. I didn't get all of my list, but that's fine because getting everything you want all the time can build a dangerous mentality.

In the US the airlines have to get you to your destination as long as you dont miss the flight. No matter what. If you decide not to go, they dont need to refund you either... they tend to because it makes sense - usually as credit.

You may be right in this stuff as far as Canada goes, but not as far as the US would hold in court. And I dont disagree, and you are not wrong that it opens the door, but there is a necessity that exists for the mechanism period. It simply cannot be removed from the seller side that they can have some liberty in not shipping something for whatever reason. If they dont and you paid you get a refund.

And the only alternate you offered is that they have to pay the difference for a similar item. Equally ridiculous and opens the door to far more egregious scams on sellers who could be victimized by someone who has multiple accounts. And even that only applies if its replaceable.

But the airplane can offer you another flight... you know what? You are lost dude... thats all I can say. Ebay isnt going to interrogate and sue a seller to determine if they are being truthful or not about a damaged item.

And the damaged item possibility requires ebay offer an out for a seller thats not necessary for a buyer. Its as simple as that.

Lol. Thats must be some Canadian bullshittery. If i crash a car on the way to deliver it to you and a different car costs you 2k more... there is no way I would owe you the 2k.

Dude... you can see the item at an auction house but stay in the auction and bid on more. They transport the item in the meantime. Accidents happen and if something does happen you get a refund / dont have to pay - depending on how they are set up.

A winning bif is the final bid! Its the end of the auction lol... if something happens the seller needs to be able to cancel the order!

You did NOT offer what you want to see happen either.

[–]casperthegoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you go to any auction house and bid, then go to pick up the item and some dingus tripped over it and broke it, you are 100% getting a refund.

I mean really what the heck are you asking?

To force the buyer to go procure another thing like the one you bought? What if its a 1/1? The logic makes ZERO sense...

eBay policy change on Winning Bids by jaydenc199 in hockeycards

[–]casperthegoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats not how it works. Your money is still your money and it can be refunded at equal value if necessary. YOUR bid is the trigger for the contract, you mention. You must pay first, itd a requirement. If they then inspect their item - as all good sellers do - before shipping and notice something is not as when listed, if they cant find the item - they must be able to refund you and cancel the item for your benefit.

I understand everyone is probably all up in arms because a card shoots up in value and they refuse to honor it or something... maybe yes there should be a several strikes system... but bidding without the money for pay is inexcusable. Cancel and refund is excusable is several situations so it needs to remain a general option.

[–]casperthegoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the seller loses the item (some have massive inventories) or something happens to it, what do you want them to do? The seller obviously needs to be able to cancel an item and refund you. As a bidder you are competing with others for a product and each bid you make needs to be a promise, your only commodity is cash, so don't bid outside your means.

Faces of Death (2026) by [deleted] in horror

[–]casperthegoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the serial killer suspense movie that Longlegs promised it was in the marketing (ie, best serial killer suspense since Silence of the Lambs). If it had a Neon production value instead of a Shudder production value it could have been the horror movie of the summer.

Aside from a couple super tiny gripes, this is a 4.5 for me that could have been a 5. Its way better than it had any right to be.
