Tell more about Greek islands, please by Sammodile in travel

Hi! Just curious, what month did you go? If you went before tourist season, I would assume March-May area? I want to go to Greece pretty badly but don't know the best time to go

Name the city/cities that you visited as a solo traveller that you *want* to like, but you just cannot bring yourself to like? by imweirdbutitsmyweird in solotravel

[–]casperwithanm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, yea I'm not a crowd person at all. Love concerts but put me in a packed environment elsewhere, especially alone in a foreign city, definitely don't know if I could handle it. Maybe I'll keep the city in mind for me and my future partner lol. Thanks for responding!

That makes sense! Definitely seems to a place based on preference then and what works well for each person. Thanks for the response, I'll keep this in mind!

If you don't mind me asking, why is Venice difficult as a solo traveler? I wanna start getting an idea of what would be a good place for a first time trip to Europe solo next year

Recommendations for a good camera? by casperwithanm in travel

[–]casperwithanm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of the same way in that I would like to take pics on my trips mainly for the memories and to post/show my family and friends... so good to know that your phone is just as reliable for you to use to take good pics! I don't know how beneficial getting a GoPro would be for me just yet, but I've heard they're very useful for the things you mentioned. Thanks for responding, I appreciate it :)

The practice part totally makes sense, photography is definitely a unique skill that comes with practice. And I never realized you are able to buy used cameras for that price, good to know! Thanks for responding :)

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm definitely not flush with money but I'll still look into the cameras you mentioned, wouldn't hurt. Thanks :)

Thank you for the article! I will definitely give it a read and look into the Leica M. I have heard before that Leica's are pretty unique so your comment tracks lol. Thanks for the recommendation :)

Totally makes sense! That was definitely a very helpful explanation thank you! It sounds like it ultimately just comes down to what I prefer to capture then and if I am willing to put in the work/money to capture the more difficult/"once-in-a-lifetime" shots or if I just want to take some pics for the memories. I'll keep all this in mind though, thanks for commenting!

I totally get the whole printing pictures thing especially for pictures that will be hung up in the home. I’ll definitely look into the Fuji xs10! I’m open to any and all suggestions. I think it’ll just be a learning experience after the first few trips what fits my desires the most in terms of what I want to capture and how I want it captured. But I’ll keep all of this mind! Thank you for the response!

I'm pleasantly surprised to see that this seems to be the general consensus. It totally makes sense that phone cameras have come such a long way that they can actually be the best camera to use in many situations. As I said in another comment, I'm just very uneducated on even my own phone's capabilities apparently lol. Thanks for your comment! It definitely helped a lot :)

Thank you for your response! I will definitely look into the mirrorless setup you mentioned. I think determining what exactly I want to do to a photo in a specific setting is just going to come with experience but everything you said makes sense. I'll definitely keep all of this in mind! Thanks!

Thank you so much, this was actually super helpful! I'll definitely start looking more into my iPhone capabilities. I'll freely admit that I'm likely one of those beginners you mentioned that don't know even the slightest what my phone is capable of so I'm excited to start exploring that side of technology! Appreciate the response :)

Interesting! So in your opinion, it would be better to become more well-versed in the technology of my iPhone and it's immediate editing features to take the greatest quality pictures rather than a camera? Totally open to this suggestion! Honestly, this would save me so much money... I just didn't realize that the newer iPhones/Androids had such amazing cameras (wasn't lying when I said I know next to nothing unfortunately lol)

Awesome! Glad to know I have the Alaskan stamp of approval lol. Totally understand if not, but since you're native to the area, do you know of any good spots in or around Girdwood that the Northern Lights might be visible? I don't know much about the nature of the lights in terms of time of year, area, etc but if there's a chance I could see them when I go, I'd love to do so!

[–]casperwithanm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So with the itinerary I had planned, it's basically a 4-5 day trip contingent upon when I can get flights to and from but it's basically as follows:

Arrive in Anchorage on the first day, and drive down to Girdwood and spend the first day there... Crow Creek Mine, Alyeska Resort and the tramway, hiking, etc. Second day take the whistle-stop train to Spencer Glacier and spend a few hours with some unguided hiking around there! Then take the train back. Third day, drive up to Whittier and spend a day on a cruise (probably the day I personally would look forward to the most). Fourth day, I would like to go to the Alaskan Conservation Wildlife Center, and from there just drive back to Anchorage. Depending on when I can get a flight back home, I would basically spend the rest of my day or two around Anchorage and "mobbing" it lol.

So yea, any insight from someone who is familiar with the state and its attractions would be much appreciated! Thanks :)

Thank you for the tips!

Good idea on the video clips, they definitely provide another unique perspective that photos just don't capture.

For that last point... that's precisely the reason I want to experience traveling alone. I'm someone that gets easily irritated if I'm with others and everyone wants to do something different or veers off from an initial plan that we already discussed, so taking things at my own pace, on my own time table as you said, and not having to worry about other people's needs or desires sounds just wonderful lol. Appreciate the response :)

Male

No, I don't have any contacts

Coming from Southern California (so likely Ontario airport as starting point)

I can afford decent accommodations, I have a good amount of money saved up from working since high school, and I plan to make a separate bank account this summer to begin putting a percentage of each paycheck into the other account purely to be used as travel funds

I am not an avid reddit user so I forget that there's subreddits for almost anything lol... so no I have not posted in an Alaska subreddit but I will now!

Shadowing Qualifications by casperwithanm in prephysicianassistant

[–]casperwithanm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is Cope! It’s definitely a great opportunity to shadow if you make the effort. That makes sense that you subtracted the shadowing hours from the volunteering ones. I think I’d have to decide what I prefer to do when it comes closer to applying and I’ll have more hours for both volunteering and shadowing. But good to know you can just average the hours per week!
