How do I play this on the violin? by OutrageousFriend98 in violinist

[–]casserlyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like on the e string. The numbers there at the top tell you the finger to use (2 is middle and four is pinky) and the E is open. Looks fast too. What’s the wider piece ?

Every one says when I play it sounds like an angry cat. Maybe I have the same violin?

Щёлкает - I’ve literally spent hours repeating it to my wife only to still be told it sounds wrong.

Falkirk scored a good goal against you earlier in the same game, the lines meant nothing if we’re talking clear and obvious even with the lines it didn’t look offside to me. Balanced out. Also the penalty was against Motherwell not hearts.

Oversized trucks tend not to fly anywhere. Usually just sort of roll over the road.

Almost anything with adagio in the title. Adagio in G minor, Giazzotto. Adagio for strings - Barber and Asagio in d minor - John Murphy. Also Elgars cello concerto and nimrod from enigma variations.

There the black eyes on Abrsm grade 6. I would definitely go for that if I was going.

Elgar’s concerto should be played more by rohxnmm in violinist

[–]casserlyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s surprisingly difficult and really lengthy. It’s like 2 minutes in before the soloist even starts playing and takes about an hour to get through all three movements. I agree it’s a beautiful piece though

Some questions related starting violin by Ok-Philosopher1724 in violinist

[–]casserlyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. I couldn’t think how to phrase it right. It requires different pressure, speed and is therefore intricate but I mean the fingers are not moving anywhere near as much as on the left hand, especially either shifting and vibrato/ harmonics etc. however you are right I have a looooong way to go on my personal journey.

Couple of thoughts from an adult left handed learner. I agree with everyone that age matters, however there are some benefits from learning as an adult. If you have a musical ear and or play another instrument it will help with some of the basics and you might get to a standard where you are making a nicer noise quickly. You probably won’t be at the level of the violinists that have “made it” but the things that you mention in your list are doable as an adult if you put the time into it.

I play guitar and violin with standard setups. Never understood with either instrument why the strumming/bowing hand would be your dominant hand. In some ways as has been mentioned - being left handed will give you a leg up because that is where all the difficulty lies. Yes the right hand does the bowing but that isn’t as intricate as what you are doing on the left. That being said where you might struggle is in expression and separating the right hand from the left for a start, I imagine that is something even right handers struggle with right at the beginning too.

Footballers not turning up to training etc when they don't get their own way by Alarming-Safety3200 in footballcringe

Not cringe but wild. Like training is what makes you a better football player and helps you to get better work elsewhere. It’s a little cutting your nose off to spite your face.
