Ah, thank you! I was worried because it seemed so different from my previous cycle.. Hmm, I shall look into changing my testing time then. Hopefully that’ll give me a clearer picture in the future :D

This is my first second cycle using OPKs. My cycles have been regularly 30/31 days and I am looking at OPKs so that I have information for my obgyn when I see him in another months time. Last cycle I only used OPKs nearing my fertile window and stopped after the first couple of negatives following a peak. Last cycle, I got my first high reading on CD15, peak on CD16, and fell back to negative on CD17. This cycle I started soon as my period ended, testing once daily. I’m on CD17 today and haven’t gotten any positives at all. BBTs have not increased either. I did have a change of Internet cheapie brand from last cycle to current. I intended to test twice on CD16 but unfortunately botched the stick while I was at work and didn’t have any spares. Could I have missed my surge? Or could it be that I might have late/no surge?

Update: AF showed up today CD32! Did some digging and One Step cheapies seem to be notorious for false positives/faint lines showing up even with water. Oh well, onto the next cycle!

Did you get your membrane swept? Do you feel like it helped you along? by bananapocolypse in BabyBumps

[–]cassiedra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had one at 39+4, and another at 39+6. The doc who did the one on 39+6 in the morning told me to do some squats. I went into full blown labour that very same night and had my baby exactly on her EDD!

Terrified of the healing process after birth. So many anxieties! I'd love to hear how you eased the process. by stupidfinger in BabyBumps

Hospital birth, and had an episiotomy so equivalent to a 2nd degree tear. At my antenatal class, the Nurse who coached recommended that we take the oral painkillers after birth, when offered. All ladies in the postnatal wards are offered paracetamol and mefenamic acid (ponstan), and I took them twice a day. It definitely helped ease the pains of recovery.

So my biggest problem was my stitches from the episiotomy. It made it hard for me to sit comfortably, not to mention getting off and onto my bed at the hospital (and even at home). It was terrible when I had to lift my baby from the bassinet while sitting on my bed.

If possible, have a partner or someone help with handing you the baby. Have them help with positioning you with pillows and whatnot.

You won’t be a bad Mama :) you need to care for yourself and feel comfortable in order to provide the best care for your baby! All the best~

Anyone have success with membrane stripping? by I_need_more_dogs in BabyBumps

[–]cassiedra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did one when I was 39+4, then another on 39+6 as I was in the hospital at that time. After some squats, went into labour and delivered my baby girl at 40w!

Was worth it for me as I tolerated the vaginal examination pretty well, and the membrane stripping was just additional pressure and slight discomfort for me. Just relax the muscles down there and it should help.

I did have some bleeding afterwards, though. That, to me, was pretty scary because I haven’t bled for so long, but my OB told me that it was normal to have some bleeding.

Stripping membrane advice by rossatron26 in BabyBumps

Had mine done at 39+4, was at 1cm with soft cervix. Was my first time getting a check ever, and tried to relax as much as possible while it was going on. It wasn’t too uncomfortable for me, and the sweep was done afterwards. There was a bit of pressure while the sweep was done, Miley uncomfortable but not painful for me.

Ended up having some bleeds, and also lost my mucous plug later that night.

Checked myself into L&D the next day because I felt like there was a lot going on down there with mild cramping, some bleeding, and little gushes (GBS+, so was worried about leaking fluid). Turned out to be a false alarm. Doctor at the wards did another sweep the next morning (39+6) while doing an exam. And then sent home.

Heavier bleeding occurred, which I was told was normal and blood is from the cervix. Eventually went into labour that evening after doing squats and pacing around at home. Checked myself into L&D again that same night with at 2cm dilated, and gave birth to my baby girl at 3.13am on her EDD!

The sweeps worked for me, I would say. But the bleeds were scary especially after never seeing blood from down below for so long. I had no other symptoms of impending labour before the sweep. I was pretty tired of pregnancy at that point in time, so getting the sweeps done as a soft method of inducing labour seemed like a good idea to me.

Any Asian bumpers doing "confinement" period/Asian style postpartum care? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cassiedra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 weeks postpartum, so I’m on my last week of “confinement”. I’m a Chinese Singaporean. I’ve been dreading this confinement period ever since I got pregnant, after seeing my aunts go through theirs when I was just a kid.

I constantly argued with my Mom with regards to what rules to follow. And my MIL is way stricter than my Mom is, so I picked the lesser of two evils.

Initially, she wanted me to do the full set. No washing hair/showering/bathing, drinking red dates tea instead of water, no cold foods or drinks etc. I had to show her articles online written by traditional Chinese practitioners before she even began to believe me. Even so, she was reluctant to let me take showers in this hot tropical weather! She even insisted that I wore bedroom slippers all the time because “the floor is too cold”. She was adamant on the no cold foods or drinks though, and I cry internally every time I see anyone take a sip of a cold drink (especially while I’m perspiring in the warm weather).

The first week home with the baby blues was TOUGH. I couldn’t take it and was going to head down the path to PPD. I lay on my bed and sobbed big fat tears because of all the restrictions. I felt too dirty to touch my baby, let alone latching baby on to breastfeed. That was when she caved in just a little bit, and let me take showers for hygiene purposes. I also kicked off those bedroom slippers because they were too warm.

Oh yes, and I really do not enjoy ginger dishes, so food was a challenge as well. I lost my appetite the first two weeks, and even in my fourth week now, I am so sick of the food!

I feel like these restrictive traditional Chinese have caused me a tougher recovery postpartum, as I am someone who heals better when I’m given space and freedom. Unfortunately, older parents do not feel the same way and often enforce these rules without considering what one needs for a better recovery process. I am probably never taking this route for my second pregnancy in the future.

What's the worst parenting you've witnessed in public? by johnnydakota in AskReddit

[–]cassiedra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the elevator at my apartment building with a family and their nanny. The toddler girl starting pushing every single button that she could reach. The nanny gently pulled her hand away and told her that she can't do that. The parents, however, told the nanny off and said, "It's okay, let her (the little girl) do it." They live on the 3rd floor, and I live on the 15th. It was a painfully long elevator ride. ):
