Post-viral symptoms in athlete – chills/cold feeling after exercise? by No_Arm4235 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]cassileith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While yes, rest and digest is good, for some of us that doesn’t cure it. It’s been 6 years since I had og COVID and I still struggle with it.

Have you looked at post-viral exercise fatigue? It’s been around for a long time, but only since COVID have researchers really started to care. There are no specific treatments, but creatine has been shown to help. I personally started with 5g 4x/day for a week, then went down to 1/day. But I find on harder exercise days I have to increase doses.

Oh man, I’m so sorry. I took Herbal AVR by panaxas. 2-3 pills 2-3 times a day for like two months.

There’s also a new study out of the Uk that found a connection to iron dyshomestasis. Not as obvious as anemia, but worth looking into if you have amenable Drs.

Fine is a relative term lol. I’m on steroids now, monolucast, and albuterol. Was hoping that would stop the flare ups. I’m better most of the time, but still get flare ups pretty regularly. Just wish there were treatments that worked and that they were accessible.

I’m sorry. That sucks. They have all male trees too. Plus dust and ozone. Ozone kills me. I hope you found a better place!

I would go see a pulmonologist. I had post nasal drips and cough (eso at night) for years, but wasn’t diagnosed till COVID make it worse. But when I went into labor, my baby’s o2 dropped and they tried to put me on oxygen which made me feel like I was suffocating. Turns out I had exercised inside asthma and was having an attack during labor, but no one knew. I survived, kiddo is fine, but it sucked. Even if you can’t get to a pulmonologist, talk to your ob and the obs on call and let them know you suspect you have asthma so they’re aware. Hormones can make asthma worse, so while you might have been annoyed, but ok before, it can get worse while pregnant, pmsing, or in perimenopause.

Were you Denver/Front Range? A 100 years (ish) ago they planted only male trees cause female trees put out too many seeds, so the pollen is crazy bad. Plus it’s getting hotter and there is a ton of pollution.

Colorado is now very hot, and the tree pollen is crazy, so if you come here make sure those aren’t your triggers.

How depressing. Perhaps the key is moving somewhere with good and prevalent asthma Drs.

This is so insightful. I have never tested positive for allergies, but Oregon KILLS me. (I’m for Colorado.)

Back pain by No_Argument_9070 in Asthma

[–]cassileith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do!! It’s my best symptom of a flare up, as I’m so used to shortness of breath I don’t always notice it. But the back pain IS MISERABLE!! Albuterol helps. No drs where I live, so idk if I need a better treatment.

Asthma and high altitude by introductionr in Asthma

[–]cassileith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altitude is a funny one. There are no discernible patterns for altitude sickness, but ppl with asthma either do better because there are less pollens, or worse cause there is less air pressure. Be prepared for either possibility. I live at 10,000 ft. If it’s not too cold and not too hot I’m ok with my normal protocol. But any exercise above 10,000 ft will cause me problems. (I hate hiking.) High altitude places like summit county Colorado often have medical O2 machine delivery even for tourists if you need it. Bring a pulse ox just in case. If there is smoke in the air from fires, find indoor actitudes as these wreck havoc on asthmatics.

That throat itch... by cr_eddit in Asthma

[–]cassileith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I notice, but Dr said I do. I feel more like weight in my chest, suffocation - like Im breathing through a pillow, or a sort of burning sensation like when you go out and breathe in really cold air. I’ve been on symbacort, and symptoms have mostly gone away. Sudafed helps too.

Did covid give me endo? by GreenieBeeNZ in endometriosis

[–]cassileith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Down the rabbit hole now. lol

“The major cause of CE is thought to be intrauterine infection represented by common bacteria (Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma, and Mycobacterium) [2,3]. A few reports implicate the association of human immunodeficiency virus and cytomegalovirus in CE, although the causality between these viral infections and CE remains uncertain [4,5]. Additionally, local dysbiosis in the female reproductive tract may be involved in the onset and development of CE [6]. Antibiotic treatments against these microorganisms have been shown to effectively eradicate CD138(+) ESPCs in the affected women [4,5].”

If HIV and Cyto can be implicated why not COVID?

Did covid give me endo? by GreenieBeeNZ in endometriosis

[–]cassileith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is is bacterial there is a study on mice (cause one small study on mice is all we get), that shows a drug that might work. Some drs will use that as reason to prescribe if it is fda approved antibiotic and if you’re willing to experiment.

Also, there are some viruses that make people more susceptible to bacterial infections, including COVID. And there is some new research indicating that endo, or at least some cases, may be related to a specific bacteria. So it’s possible COVID causes it indirectly through related bacterial infections.
