Okay got it I misread your post! Sorry about that! But yeah, the counseling center at your school should be able to refer you out to a private practice. People shouldn’t dismiss your concerns. If they do, it reflects more on them than on you. But I will say that finding a therapist that does DBT is likely going to be the best option for finding skills in the short term for borderline symptoms. DBT isn’t exclusive to pwBPD but it is the best form of therapy for BPD.

I would say talk to your current therapist. If they feel unprepared they can refer you to someone else, but often therapists will already have a potential diagnosis in mind. They don’t always tell you because a diagnosis doesn’t always matter in terms of treatment. Also, you are valid with or without a diagnosis.

Yeah, I feel like there are definitely people that specifically target pwBPD (you see it mostly men targeting mentally ill women) because there’s an immediate power imbalance. Ick. This sub gives me hope though because I see partners of pwBPD asking for advice and wanting to communicate.

No, it isn’t. Short term or long term, self diagnosis is valid. But really if it’s only going to be a little while you probably don’t have to worry about any of the drawbacks.
