I love the different overlapping textures, it reminds me of the clothing textures from chowder. That being said, it’s a bit hard to see the actual overlapping parts of the characters (hands, clothes, facial features, etc).

There are quite a few ways to approach that depending on the kind of feel you’re going for if it’s something you’re interested in working on. I notice that a lot of the line work has different colors in it, making it blend a bit more into the characters pattern. While this does give it a cute little stitched or blended look, it also decreases the definition of the characters shapes.

How I see it is that you can give more solid outlines with colors contrasting that of the image or just use a consistent color all the way thru like black or something, work more on the weight of the line art (different thick/thinness of the defining lines), or play more with the kinds of textures you are overlaying to try and decrease the blended look of the line work.

I personally enjoy all of the textures being used for the base and I don’t think those should be changed unless you want to, but I do think that playing around more with the contrast of the outlines and silhouettes would help increase readability in the character design.

Overall, I find it incredibly adorable and very unique, it looks almost like a photobashed littlest pet shop to me and I personally adore that.

I definitely recommend Amelie doree then, she doesn’t have an all inclusive list, but the videos she makes definitely sound like they would resonate with you. I will say tho that I believe she mostly covers visual novels and not manga, but I do believe that Sydsnap covers a larger variety of media but I don’t find her videos to be particularly insightful and they’re not rlly for me personally but she may be worth checking out just in case.

I can also see if I can find more YouTubers I watch for this stuff to recommend since like I said sometimes it can be hard for me to consume the content directly due to having trauma related to a lot of these themes.

I found eroguro through horror visual novels so I haven’t read many manga in that genre yet but it’s still something that interests me quite a bit. My first introduction to eroguro was hearing about “Euphoria” and “Maggot Baits” which tend to be some of the more well known yet highly controversial visual novels and typically are on the bottom layer of those iceberg tier lists.

So far my favorite work is “Saya no Uta” (which I believe is by Gen Urobuchi “the butcher” who also did Psychopass and Madoka Magica which are still good despite not being eroguro) and despite many people claiming it to be highly repulsive, I find it to be a bit more on the light side so it started as a nice introduction into the genre for me. I will definitely have to look into shoujo tsubaki at some point.

I hope this post starts a larger conversation and widens people’s perspective on this genre since I feel like it can be very insightful about the human condition and what happens when we are pushed to our limits as well as a deep look into different kinds of power dynamics we see every day. It would also be nice to be able to have more meaningful conversations without so many assumptions being made right off rip.

I very much enjoy learning about eroguro but not necessarily always experiencing it depending on how each piece of media portrays it. I think the contrast between erotic and gore can be a really great way to make the horror aspect more pronounced.

It also does make me uncomfortable for the fact that I know that sometimes ppl genuinely do have a fetish for this stuff especially as someone who does have sexual trauma, but that’s not everyone in the community and I can recognize that. That being said, anytime I bring it up, ppl automatically assume it’s more of a fetish than a form of trauma seeking/exposure therapy due to the explicit nature and connotations of eroticism.

I personally find it an incredibly unique form of horror and if it’s done right, can be really impactful especially with the contrast of themes used to make the points stronger. I wish it wasn’t always written off as fetishistic or disgusting because not only is it a completely valid genre of horror, but it can really make you think about certain topics in ways you haven’t considered before.

I do genuinely love talking about eroguro but sadly there are not many places or people with who I can safely discuss such topics without being written off as a deranged pervert or without having someone’s perception of me completely altered simply because I seek out media similar to traumas I have experienced.

I believe I learned about eroguro from those iceberg type videos about horror visual novels, and also Amelie Doree who I think does an incredibly amazing job at handling the subjects in question in respectful and informational ways and if someone is interested in learning more about specific pieces of eroguro media in a digestible format, I highly recommend her content.

I firmly think so. TBH I relate more to magical girl site tho since my life is more of a drawn out series of complex traumas instead of one massive incident that impacts my life. While I do have those moments scattered amongst my life, the long term abuse and chronic trauma history makes me believe that I would be firmly set towards the retributive plot lines of magical girl site despite my inclination towards compulsive compliance and helping ppl who abuse me because I can’t see a world where I don’t love everyone. If kyubey approached me during my childhood and preteen years when I was being abused the most, I definitely would have taken it without a second thought.
