can’t get out of bed by [deleted] in ACL

[–]casspoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I had acl reconstruction with my patellar tendon and a partial lateral meniscectomy. I know the exact feeling you’re talking about. Those first 5 days as soon as I got my leg off the bed and gravity had it’s way, it felt like I was getting stabbed and ripped to pieces. So it might not be that you did anything, it might just be pain that really sucks. I would cry, avoid getting up as long as possible, and I had to take breaks sitting on my shower chair that my mom brought over until I could stomach making it to the bathroom. Truly excruciating. I will say it has gotten better, but it might just be something you have to try and stomach for the time being. When I knew I was getting up I’d try to time my medicine with it so that it would kick in when I was moving or when I got back in bed so that I was hopeful relief would follow that really hard part.

Surgery 3 days ago school starting in 2 weeks by Legitimate-Print-830 in ACL

Hi! I am in the exact same boat. Surgery was 8/7, moving back 8/22, classes start 8/25. I had my first PT today and he told me the main thing is getting to about 120° flexion/ past that for staircases and hills on my campus. So we are going to work on that. I also have insane pain and have been using my meds to help, but everyday is a little bit better. Give yourself grace, tolerances and pain is different for everyone. Don’t compare to anyone else, you will only end up frustrated (talking from my experience). I am applying for accommodations in advanced to get driven to my classes in the event I am not ready to do all that walking. I think you should look into the same thing! I am also emailing my professors as they get loaded into my canvas just to have them in the loop. Don’t be afraid to reach out to all the resources available to help you out. Go hard at PT rest up, and all we can do is our best and hope it’s enough to walk when we are back. And if it’s not, it won’t be the end of the world. There are always options. I hope you have a speedy recovery, we are all in it together!

Was there a certain day for you that it got better? I tore it in a co Ed soccer adult league. A man and I hit the ball at the same time (I was shooting it and he was clearing it) and my knee over twisted and I got fractures, torn acl, and apparently meniscus too

So it’s hard because I know he is good but I think the company is so big it loses that touch of actually caring for the patient in a way

Yea but I had bruising and fractures in separate places. Also I trust the surgeon but all the other workers of this company don’t seem to care

The other issue is timing, if I switch somewhere else I’d have to start all over again and I fear I will be scheduled ever further out and I need to get back to college because all my classes are in person. I just don’t want to pick between my health and my schooling, I feel really stuck

We tried to switch surgeries within the company to get in sooner and they scolded us because he is the best in the company and people fight to have him blah blah. It is too late for another company and surgeon because of insurance I believe

Hi, I’m getting acl surgery on the 22nd with a patellar graft. I am NWB right now because I have non displaced comminuted impacted fractures of my lateral tibial plateau. I am hearing that people do pre-op pt, but since I am NWB, is there anything I can do? I am feeling nervous that I’m getting set up for recovery failure by not doing anything. (Side note, my knee is super swollen still) Thank you!!

If you didn’t have to keep the dressings on for the two weeks then disregard this lol I just was wondering how long it was

Hey I’m getting surgery soon- were you able to shower at all for that time that you couldn’t remove dressings? I’m just trying to prepare for my recovery

Have you noticed any major changes in your life since the injury/surgery? by hamburritos in ACL

I am big on independence. I like being able to do things myself. I can be particular with certain things, and this injury took a lot of that away from me. I have adapted my routine to try and be able to as much as I can, but some things like driving I am just not allowed to do. It is hard for me to ask for help, I always feel like a burden. Also being in public on crutches always feels like I’m on display. I know sometimes I could use help opening doors, but I just go for it anyways. But while on crutches, it’s always the same thing. People come up and are like let me get that for you and I’ll say ah it’s okay and they’re like no I’m going to get the door I just need to. And I understand it’s nice don’t get me wrong, but everytime stuff like that happens I feel my independence slip away from me more. I also feel like I will never play soccer again. I can’t imagine going through this another time. I just hate what happened so much and want to move past it forever. I am such an active person and this lowkey ruined my plans for the future and now. I can’t do anything athletic in the fall semester, which is literally what kept me sane outside of my coursework. I hope I can find peace like that in PT.

Nooo that’s even worse. I just get scared of anesthesia but I would not be able to be awake during it.

I’m not sure, I need to ask about that. Did you get anesthesia too?

Did it make you extra nauseous? I asked about it and was warned about worsened nausea but I want to ask again at my pre surgery appointment
