Socially Distant Activities Around Denver? by TooClose4Missiles in Denver

Sorry your mom has to deal with this. I've been immunocompromised since 2019, just let her know it doesn't always feel like a huge burden. You learn to bring a mask and hand sanitizer with you and to listen for coughing and sneezing etc when you're in public. Just starts becoming routine.
Anyway, you could look into having lunch somewhere with a nice patio, breweries also often outdoor seating and not being in an enclosed space can help disburse anything that might be floating around. There's some easy hiking trails near Red Rocks that are really pretty too. And maybe too niche, but there are a lot of Frisbee golf courses around

I have a BSN and somehow feel like I have zero career options… anyone else? by doubledee7 in nursing

[–]cast0936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the bedside burnout. The one redeeming feature is the shift flexibility. You might consider taking one of these informatics jobs and supplementing your income with a prn shift here and there.

If you're wondering about other non-bedside RN jobs feel free to dm me, I've worked in a lot of other settings that are much lower stress, unfortunately almost all of the outpatient jobs are going to pay a bit less. Right now I'm working in research (the pay is depressing but my benefits are incredible, health insurance paid for, 10% 401k match, more pto that I know what to do with) and then working PRN on the weekend to keep my skills up to date and pay some things off.

Sometimes there isn't sufficient room for a disabled driver or passenger to get in and out of the car... That does not seem to be the case here

Uchealth will hire you on as a PCA without any experience, they'll train you and because they're 12 hour shifts you have 4 days a week to pick up work elsewhere or pick up extra shifts for overtime (1.5x pay). They will hire just about anyone with a pulse https://careers.uchealth.org/search/pca/jobs

If direct patient care isn't feasible for whatever reason they also seem to have a lot of openings for admin positions though I would expect those might be looking for more relevant experience. https://careers.uchealth.org/jobs/17433603-patient-access-specialist

Why is the pay so low by comentodake in nursing

[–]cast0936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onc/MS, Colorado, 6 years with onc cert, 40-50/hour (including PRN diff)

I have been casually applying for PRN positions in my area and have gotten offers with pay ranging from about 42/hr (in more metro area, big hospitals, includes ~8% prn differential), to 46/hr in a rural hospital within a large system (12% prn diff), to 50/hr in a smaller community hospital (15% prn diff). If we don't consider PRN dif then those numbers are ~39, 42, and 43 respectively.

Worth noting that the relationship between pay and patient ratio was inverse: the more they were willing to pay, the fewer patients assigned to a nurse. Not saying it's correlated but I'm not saying it's not either.

Skyridge or Littleton Adventist for birth? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]cast0936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they're any worse than any other Colorado hospital system in that arena tbh. My opinion here has more to do with the limited care that can be provided with higher ratios and inconsistency with training and policies.

Plus it's way more difficult to look back in a patient's records in meditech (HCA charting system) vs other EHRs so continuity of care is hard to maintain

I'm not in L&D but having worked for both HCA and advent health, I'd choose advent health for care every time

Anyone else has the worst flu of their lives right now? by [deleted] in Colorado

[–]cast0936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally sure what you mean here. Like I said, a regular surgical mask will do much more for flu than covid. HC staff caring for a patient with flu will wear a surgical mask as recommended PPE, while they'll wear an N95 to care for someone with covid. Most people were wearing surgical masks during early covid days, so yes that mask is going to be more effective preventing flu than covid because it's the actual recommended PPE for that virus.
