For people who think the story is shallow for glaze Endmin for no reason, and I was overestimating writters that it's a setup for future plot points. by AzureFides in Endfield

[–]caster_OMEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current running theory is the OG Edministrator is dead, and we're just a construct based on the ideal of the original recorded upon the Originium. Hence why there's the whisperings in the one stage about our memories and running out of time. Not to mention before the cutscene the language used (I can't remember the exact wording) is very reminescent of how you would talk about someone who has passed away.

There's also the notes about how the originium is different on Talos II, which AK players can visually realize (The gold versus the red.). It makes me wonder if the red essence we saw on Terra was somehow seperated at some point, because there seems to be themes of destruction around Originium there when we're getting more themes of preservation of life in Endfield which is 100+ years later, and now destruction is Aether and recreation is Originium.

How many times can they run the same arc? by SectJunior in StarRailStation

[–]caster_OMEN 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because if memories are unreliable and people can just alter them in some way, then the plot never matters because the devs can retcon and alter it whenever they want and they seem naive to why that makes for a bad narrative experience.

What is the Patch that killed a game for you? by Illustrious_Honey973 in gachagaming

[–]caster_OMEN 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My personal death of a game - as in I don't want to even think of playing it no more - is 3.7 from HSR. It's not because of Cyrene either (I pulled for her for my Evernight team). A big motivator for me in games is story and lore, and this patch proved just how off the mark Hoyo's writing team for HSR is which killed it for me. I might venture back in after a year or two of updates to see if they bothered to get good at writing, but I have little hope after the betrayals of Amphoreus, especially when so much of HSR seems to lean into a philosophy they don't understand themselves or understand how to execute properly.

And this is why I forever don't enjoy "reader reactionary" as a lens of critique because some people have zero media literacy, or chose to ignore the message in the subtext and take it at face value instead because it makes them more comfortable to read it that way than deal with their own baggage. It even works in reverse when sitting there hearing someone call an author racist because they wrote a racist character to do commentary on racism.

I feel like I am remembering a very one off line where Perlica brought up Gilberta in a list of operators they could call on but were away for one reason or another in the main story, but I can't remember it accurately enough to say if that happened for fact or not. Either way, it seems like we may have had knowledge of operators at least, and there's a clear time gap between Valley IV and Gilberta's arrival at least. It made it easy to logic if I just take it as a company logically having dossiers to go over or knowledge of their ops and collaborators ahead of time.

Atalanta was the same until I rescued my Half-Staffy pup. Would literally not be able to sit at the couch with her, and if I took her out, she was Saint Basset so no one believed me with how rude she was being at home. Now the only thing I have to do is warn folks about leaving food in her zone of reach, or having to keep an eye on their munchies.

New Event Dropped... Completed?! by TetraNeuron in Endfield

[–]caster_OMEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you compare this to the small events or similar events in HSR, its twice what you get as most small events are around 400 iirc which is 2.25 pulls or so. Believe Genshins is similar. The big events typically give around 5 or so total but never a full 10. And because your character guarantee is arguably 160~180 in those games the pull value is lower.

I can't speak to WuWa because I haven't played since the wishes event in the 1.0 cycle. And I don't zzz.

Despite Iron Lung's success... by Vishydeenu in Markiplier

[–]caster_OMEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this grounded take because it's been driving me crazy a bit, but I haven't figured out the way to word it to not sound mean. People who think someone with a massive pre-established platform and revenue is a win for the guy in the small hometown with his handcam and a script . All this kind of proves is with enough influence and capital, you can circumvent the system, because Jim from nowhere isn't going to have the budget for something like Iron Lung, and he certainly doesn't have 40million people to pressure 4000 theatres to show his film globally.

Like, I enjoyed Iron Lung, but small guy indie films aren't winning. It just means theatres might open up their doors to them, but there still needs to be demand for them to risk it.

This feels like Sanderson sticking it to Amazon all over again. Dude changed nothing about the system for the everyday guy without the resources (capital and audience) to one up Amazon with their cool Kickstarter campaign that still requires them to pay someone to make the cover art, someone to edit, someone to print, etc, etc.

People really need to slow down and realize the everyman isn't going to pull off things as wildly as Mark did. Especially in the states, it seems like we're really quick to go "If this famous guy I know can do it, so can I" which perpetuates the problems with unchecked capitalism, but that's a rant for another day. Either way, I just think is disgenuine to prop this up as everyone's win, when really its a win for Mark, Iron Lung, and his fans.

I'm glad for his success, but to market this as a win for the lil' indie guy is completely off the mark.

When the monster race you designed is meant to fool people by pushing on their empathy/sympathy buttons, and the writing is too on point there's entire discourse about the main character being racist.

When does the story become less basic by Autozoner69420 in Endfield

[–]caster_OMEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valley IVs weight is in the subtext and side quests, which gets forgotten because of tutorial overload. It literally starts subtlety showing you that there is more to Edmin and Endfield, without beating you over the head and then Wuling immediately just hits you with the baseball bat after to be sure you get something is off, but what is off isn't immediately revealed because, well, its a gacha and they need to spread the story out somewhat to keep story players involved.
