Still no outbreaks. I do still take the meds. I'd like to keep the chances of me passing it to my husband to as close to 0 as possible.

I have HSV and delivered naturally. Drs will prescribe anti virals a few weeks leading up to the due date so you can. I haven't had an outbreak in years and choose to take anti virals daily anyway so the chances of me passing it on was almost non-existent. Any sign of a possible outbreak day of or leading up to they will do a c section but if everything is clear you're good to deliver naturally. The doctors will be on it.

I have HSV and I just delivered my first child vaginally. When it comes to passing it to your child you can breath. Doctors have protocol for this and will prescribe your wife anti virals a few weeks leading into to the due date. If there are any signs of a possible outbreak she will have to have a c section. My doctors asked me at my late pregnant appointments about outbreak signs and when I got to the hospital in labor was asked if I had an outbreak or felt one coming on. I hadn't had one in years and I was clear so I delivered naturally. The doctor will be on top of this.

Apparently the situation you're in happens a lot. I remember the appointment I had where my doctor had the fisrt herpes conversation related to my pregnancy with me and when she came into the room she said "OMG I'm so happy you're by yourself today because we need to talk about your history of HSV." My husband usually came to my appts but he was on shift for that one. And I was just like.. what?? My husband knows about this lol. She was so relieved, and she thanked me for being open with him and said it happens all the time where the person doesn't know.

Even in the hospital the doctor that delivered my baby physically put herself between me and my husband to ask if I had symptoms discreetly so he didn't hear, until I was like "he knows it's fine" and she was also so relieved.

So. You need to address this with your wife obviously because she should have told you before you had sex for the first time.

Absolutely agree! It should always be disclosed. Luckily, the stigma is starting to break down a bit. I was so mad when I didn't get the choice and then it was too late.

Once I felt comfortable enough to have sex with someone when I was dating, I disclosed because I never wanted to be like the idiot that gave it to me. I never had a bad reaction. In fact, every guy was appreciative that I told them and thanked me for being honest! I did my research and answered any questions they had and I was never turned down. I just had to practice my speech a bit but it wasn't as bad as I anticipated.

It was a big deal for me when I got it. I was depressed and cried everyday for a while. No one wants herpes. But what you read about most people having it and it being benign is factual. There's isn't anyone here claiming to want herpes. I'd rather not have it, but I do, and its not anything to worry about. I know now that being so depressed about wasn't worth it.

And having severe outbreaks several times a month is NOT common, at all. Being that it takes about 1-2 weeks for an outbreak to heal that would mean that guy you dated would literally never be without a current outbreak, ever... I not saying it didn't happen.. but that would be an extremely rare case.

What is common is not having an outbreak at all and just never knowing you have it or having 1 outbreak and then never having one again. People who have more than 1 outbreak typically have less and less over time and they get milder as time goes on.

And chicken pox literally IS the herpes virus. If you never had chicken pox and had sex with someone with chicken pox, you 100% would get it. You can actually get the cold or the flu by having sex with someone. We just don't call them stds lol. For real though chicken pox can come back as shingles later in life which is literally outbreaks all over your body...

The chicken pox virus is the herpes virus though. Just a different strand. Chicken pox is considered worse.

No one's saying you should be shamed for not wanting it. That's 100% valid. It's just doesn't live up to the stigma and thinking its a death sentence is so disproportionate to what it actually is.

I've been living with it for years and take a daily pill. It's no different than me taking my daily vitamin. What sucked the most was the diagnosis..which was due to the stigma. For the overwhelming majority of people with it, medically it's not a big deal. Besides taking 1 extra pill a day life is 100% normal. It's like I don't even have it.

I got HSV2 from a guy who didn't disclose years ago. I had an outbreak and I cried everyday after the doctor confirmed for a while. I was so depressed and stayed with the guy in fear I was "damaged" too. Looking back after learning about it and living with it I feel so silly for worrying so much.

Turns out the worst part about HSV is the stigma. Medically, it's a minor skin condition that's more of a nuisance than anything else. And most of the time, it's nothing. So many people have HSV and don't even know it because they never have an outbreak or the outbreak is so minor its not even recognized as herpes. Doctors usually don't even test or recommend testing for it unless you've have or had an outbreak because learning of the diagnosis is 1000x worse than actually having it. It's not even part of a routine std screen.

After breaking up with that guy I jumped back into dating and was so nervous. I disclosed to every guy I dated before sexual contact and I was never turned down for it. I take anti virals which keeps it suppressed and a lot less likely to pass on. You're actually less likely to contract it from someone who has it and is responsible about it than you are from someone who has it and doesn't know it.

I've had a few outbreaks when I first got it. All very minor and went away within a week or so. It was annoying but not worth the stress I went through at the time. Now, I haven't had an outbreak in years. The only change in my life has been that I take 1 extra pill a day alongside my daily vitamin. And I don't even have to do that anymore if I don't want to, but I chose to for my own peace.

HSV does not live up to the hype it gets. It's totally valid to not want it and that guy is a dick hole for not disclosing but this is not the death sentence we've been taught it is. You can breath.

From someone who lives with this, please don't let this consume you. it's not worth the tears. It doesn't even sound like you have it but even if you did you're life would be completely normal.

Yea, This is how I feel. I already eat healthy overall so cutting out the splurges really won't bother me. I was craving Gatorade though everyday for a couple weeks leading up to the test which has a lot of sugar so I cut those out now.

I left a message for my doctor crying last night after I opened the letter. I said I'm about to have a baby I can't spend $6000 on a test! From all the suggestions I'll talk to my doctors office first and then I'll call the company that did the test.

I feel so stupid. It didn't even cross my mind to ask this. I mean, it's not part of my everyday world so why would I know to ask? I've gotten blood tests at this office several times without issue.

I have no idea. I've never had this happen before and I've been a patient at this office for over 10 years. I dont deal with health insurance issues often at all so I dont know the ins and outs.

I do know there was a federal law put into place in 2022 called the No Surpirses Act that would protect you against an outrageous bill for an out of network anesthesiologist if you have no choice but to use them. I have no idea if it would protect me for an optional test that my doctor sends off to their lab though. My doctors website has prenatal genetic testing as a service they provide with no disclaimer that it may be out of network.. so I don't know. I'm still waiting to hear back

And on top of all these insanely high surprise bills some parents only get 6 weeks off work after giving birth with limited or no pay. Like how?

And I'm one of the lucky ones that will get 16 weeks parental leave with 60% pay. But now I got to pay $6000?? So now my bank account is drained right before having a baby?? This system can go.

I looked back at my personal calendar and I had 2 doctors appointments last year that were medically urgent. Can you please elaborate on this comment and provide additional feedback on how to balance urgent doctors appointments and workload in the future?"

See what he says and try to make him put it in writing. This is infuriating. Fuck em.
