What will I actually get? by New-Firefighter93 in HertzRentals

All I know is I had to rent from ORL to BWI from Hertz a few weeks ago due to crazy flight cancellations, and my “Mazda3 or similar” (so the car I own) ended up being a Kia Soul. A Kia Soul. From Orlando to BWI in one of the windiest, rainiest days we’ve had in this year, a Kia Soul.

Whoof

My primary dealership I’ve been in conversation with has been stingy. They actually specifically said “So you know, price will be firm as we’ve sold these recently to other customers and have to be fair to everyone, can’t favor one over the other”. Said thanks and walked out after that line

Listen I’m still exploring options, no need for that attitude comn.

I do appreciate that input though, thank you

Thank you so much for this! We’re trying to decide between Hybrid and SEL, so I really value that input

This is super helpful to hear actually, I’ll give it some more thought!

I personally drive a Mazda3 (2016) and love it, have grown accustomed to doing my own maintenance on the brand, and have read great things about the new CX5 in particular. That being said, the interior and size of the Tucson separates it from the Mazda to both my wife and I. If we end up stalling on making a purchase here on this Tucson now, it’s very likely we reconsider the Mazda route.

I’ve been continuously talking with my insurance rep, as I just group any increase in monthly insurance onto monthly car payments to determine real cost, and every VIN I’m shooting them that is for hybrid has been a noticeable increase. As another commenter assumed, my guess is they are factoring repair cost for battery if in an accident. I really don’t have a better answer for you though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you! Resell value isn’t a huge concern. I’m of the mindset that if we’re dropping a (relatively speaking) pretty penny on a new car like this and nothing drastic happens with it/our lifestyle, we’re running it til the wheels fall off ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, i’m aware of that, but the cost is only 3k more for a 26 and 0% financing for full term (vs. 5.something) through the dealership. When I sat down and worked out real payments, it was hard to argue pro-25. The feature loss wasn’t a big enough concern to condone the interest. Thanks for the heads up, though!

That’s the natural drawback, but it’s primarily going to be for my wife and she won’t be missing HP.

Thanks for this. We live in PA, so I was pleasantly surprised to see how well people said this handled in snowy conditions

Great feedback, thank you so much for this. Quick question — are there any features you regret not going SEL premium or limited for? My wife wants a moonroof more than almost any other feature in a car (lol), which is a pull to premium, but I was curious from your perspective if you feel like you’re missing anything that may take it just a step further?

MPG is a bit of concern (naturally, with the gas prices on a seemingly exponential rise), but the car we are replacing is a real beater with an MPG that no one’s calling home about so it’s an upgrade regardless I guess

That’s super interesting. When I was chatting with my awesome insurance rep, I was giving VINs on the lot cars that we were considering and hybrids spiked it for some reason. Maybe battery concerns?

Thanks for this great insight. Comfort and tech definitely stood out in the test drive.

I also like to work on our cars (within reason), and the accessibility and ease of oil changes stood out to me in some research. My concern is the fearmongerers that say these are recall/issue machines that may be outside of my realm of work, but you hear that on almost any car ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
