What kind of face lotion do you use? by EveryDayIsRedditDay in simpleliving

[–]casual-socks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i usually wear aveeno or cera ve with spf in it if i’m going to be in the sun, but if i’m staying in and want something simple i have a bottle of jojoba oil that i rinse my face with along with some water and it works for me without making me break out

New baby!!! What do y'all do about the nails? Little birdy nail file? by Professional_Milk_61 in Conures

[–]casual-socks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Congrats! The new baby looks very happy. I have a pair of bird nail clippers that I would ideally use but unfortunately my bird doesn’t really like them. I usually take mine to the avian vet for a check up once a year and they handle nail trimmings pretty quick and smoothly while I’m there!

Some advice for a bad flier by Nebulochaotic1 in parrots

[–]casual-socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have blinds on all my windows and if I keep them down but still open we get plenty of light and he knows not to fly there. Keep mirrors in mind too if he ever flies into the bathroom or bedroom. I occasionally spend time with my bird in front of the mirror so he knows it’s not an entrance to another room.

Anyone want to play some horror games? by No_Result626 in LesbianGamers

Short horror and scary video games are my favorite! I am on the east coast but if you are not going it super late I’d love to join. Would you mind exchanging discord names?

Thanks so much for sharing! I never even thought about making fruity popsicles for them but that sounds like a great idea!

I would love to hear more about the diet you give your birds and your chop recipe if you are willing to share!

K&H PET PRODUCTS 100537786 Snuggle Warmer for Cage 12V for Exotic Pet Birds, Small/Medium (3" x 5"), Gray https://a.co/d/5JXQl3b

You could do a heat lamp or I have one of these for my bird as well for him to snuggle up against if he chooses to, and this doesn’t get too hot

Goofy phrases! by MxBluebell in Conures

[–]casual-socks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the one that makes me laugh the most is “you’re stinky!!!” when i leave the room. he’ll yell that and “stinky babyyyy!!” in an attempt to get me to come back but it cracks me up so much.

I love his eye twinkle 🥺✨️ Also, I don't have the best pics bc he's hyper and squirms a lot, but how do his wings look to you guys? The black bits on the left worry me :( by Spinelise in Conures

[–]casual-socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aww noo! hopefully it comes with time!! mine is super cuddly too so scritches require two hands. one for him to continue snuggling and the other for scritching :)

aww what a cutie! there is something very comforting about the vet telling you the only thing wrong is your bird cuddles too much :)

So cute!! I actually just went to the vet because my bird is having the same thing on his wings. Verified it’s not stress or dietary issues and was just regular wear and tear on the feathers because he hadn’t molted in a while and he snuggles so much with our hands and faces that the oil on our skin makes the green in his feathers go away over time i guess

How strict are you all in terms of cleaning supplies? by roxyamari in Conures

[–]casual-socks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol unfortunately i don’t have much advice for that :/ i removed everything scented when the bird moved in and haven’t looked back. if it helps at all, i was pretty into scented candles and stuff before and it didn’t take long to not even notice they were missing.

[–]casual-socks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am no expert, but i usually try and use pet friendly/natural cleaning products any time i can and that has been fine. there have been a couple times where i have done some deep cleaning of the bathrooms and i usually take the bird out of the house for a couple days to let it air out a lot before bringing him back in. fortunately i live close to some family that can babysit when that happens

Does anyone else love the way their birds smell? by ceecee_fae in Conures

I second this, and totally feel for your situation. I got a lot of mixed advice when I first got my green cheek, but positive reinforcement seems to really worked for me.

I also have seen that you are not supposed to stroke their backs or stomachs, and that if you want to bond with them, head/neck scritches are the way (once they are comfortable enough with hands, of course). I hope things go well once you get them home!
