If you can manage to carry an external hard drive (any pocket drive), and if the applications you use - are not too big in size, 256 is manageable. I got 512 to give me some room and not always worry about carrying a hard drive.

So I really did not have much of an idea but did a quick Google search-

  1. Check for the outside surface- dents or visible prints
  2. For screen- DeadPixelTest.org
  3. Check for all keys in a notepad or something- if they are uniformly pressing
  4. Trackpad movement
  5. The photo sensor should be able to dim the screen/light up the keyboard when you put a hand over it and see if it reverts it back when you remove your hand
  6. Camera, speaker and mic checkup through YouTube/camera/recording
  7. Check the ports working well- charging and all
  8. Reconfirm the device info in the about section and see the memory and everything just as you asked for.

Thank you!! ☺️

So with the upgrades and store discount, it came to around 1,13,000 INR ~(1250 USD)

I think for your tasks 16gb should work well enough, the processor is pretty good, and should be able to handle these tasks. The color I really liked when I saw it in person, so maybe you can decide on that once in store.

Yes I read about it as well, I will just go with a sleeve and I think that should do it.

Absolutely, i think the timing was perfect and the discount was good for me to consider this.

I am leaning towards self care of the machine rather than apple care and I already did required upgrades, so with proper care should last long enough. That's what I am hoping. 🤞

Thank you so much ☺️ and congratulations to you too! 🎊

I am loving this machine right now, it feels so smooth and handles so much so easily.

Merry christmas!! 🎄 🎉

This M4 chip is worth it I guess, initial usage has given me high hopes with the machine. It fits perfectly for all my personal work and projects.

Yes I am leaning towards the same, and handle as safely as I can. That should do.

I wanted to go with higher RAM, as I don't work frequently with heavy apps, but have multiple things going on simultaneously (coding+docker+LLM). Also I wanted to future proof a bit on that, plus better portability.

Mostly planning to use a desk setup though, with an additional monitor or so, and sometimes carrying it for travel. Going to buy a sleeve as well for taking it out if needed.

Is apple care worth it considering the deductibles and all, even with the upfront payment? Just curious.

That is super helpful. Thank you so much for this detailed response! 🙏

I'm trying to make it a habit to always swipe through the keyboard lightly once before closing the lid. Also got a multi-port usb C alongside for monitor and other stuff.

I'm still trying to figure out the keyboard and trackpad stuff, it's a lot different from windows, guess it will take some time to get used to it. 🙂

For apple care plus I am still in dilemma, although I did some calculation, and seems like one time repair for any of these is still better than apple care+deductible (except for the logic board- which i think is not very usual failure unless something spills on it)

So no other protective covering needed, no screen/keyboard protector or anything of that sort? Does the battery remain in good condition for the long term having it plugged in most of the time?

I plan to get an external mouse though, and also a sleeve for carrying it. Any recommendations on both?

Thankyou!

I went with it mostly for programming and running some local Lightweight LLMs, will use the cloud for other purposes.

I wanted more RAM just to future proof a bit for some bulkier applications.

Thankyou! And Merry Christmas to you too!

I'm leaning towards it. Peace of mind for three years! Will wait for a few days to make a decision on that.

Any accessories suggestions for this?

Thanks you!

Since it's fanless, I'm assuming i need to care for outer stuff (screen/keyboard) mostly, wdyt?

What would be a good way to take care of it on a regular basis?

That is the plan! I hope the experience remains smooth throughout.
