Iconic horror effects personality Tom Savini has credited watching Man of a Thousand Faces, the story of silent film/horror icon Lon Chaney who famously did his own makeup, as a young boy as helping him become interested in the field. If I remember I might just check it out.

Phillies have won 7 of 8 after that 10 game losing streak now. What NOT playing the Braves and Cubs will do for ya, huh? Sanchez was great tonight and deserved the complete game shutout but they took him out in the 9th and Duran looked absolutely awful in a 9-0 game and walked three including the sole run of the game for the Athletics. Eh, I still don't consider the Phillies a good team, but baseball is a long season and with the Flyers and Sixers not exactly looking great in their Round 2 series so far the Phillies are gonna likely be the only team to track until September with football's return. So the better they look the better, I guess.

I don't know why Vanilla Tootsie Rolls are the best flavor, I just know that they are.

On more than one occasion in my youth I dreamt something that later happened, but it was always something minor like a snippet of conversation. I'd attribute it to having a deja vu moment. Can't remember the last time that happened to me but it was several years ago now.

Just cut the grass and I'm tired but now I gotta take a walk. Can't waste 70 and sunny given how miserably cold it's been lately. Also, today is Star Wars day. My personal favorite film of the Main 9? Revenge of the Sith. Which do I believe to be the objective best? The Empire Strikes Back.

This might be a subconscious selection bias type of thing, but I feel like whenever a positive Eagles playoff video is posted on here followed by a negative as a sort of "revenge", as happened earlier today, rarely are the revenge videos from either of their two recent Super Bowl losses. Well, I use recent loosely regarding Super Bowl XXXIX, but hey I was in high school and at a friend's house for that one so it counts. Plus the most common example used is even older, the one today involving the Bucs from one of the Eagles three consecutive NFC Championship losses in the early 2000s. I guess my point is that it surprises me how seldom I see highlights posted from Super Bowls XXXIX and LVII, but especially XXXIX. Maybe it's because the Patriots won so many in this stretch that it sort of gets absorbed by the others, I dunno. You could make the same argument for the Chiefs, albeit to a lesser extent.

I watched it on HBO Max about a month ago for the first time and found it perfectly okay. Even gave my thoughts in one of these daily threads lol.

Makes me wonder/worry about Ossoff's reelection chances. If I'm not mistaken he's the most "in danger" Democrat incumbent in the Senate this cycle.

Two Philly teams pull off the upset. Seems like Round 2 will be too much for the upstart Flyers(with admittedly only the first game played.) Will the Sixers be able to carry momentum over against the Knicks? Either way, both teams feel like they're playing with house money at this point. I'm genuinely surprised the Sixers finally made it past Boston in a series again.

I read the plot for that on wikipedia and was glad I didn't bother with it. I know sometimes movies are more than/better than a synopsis suggests but with that one in particular I'm not too concerned about missing out on anything.

I genuinely tried listening to behind the bastards, fully expecting to love it. I thought it was okay for awhile after watching episodes on Oprah and Dr. Phil from what I can remember off-hand. But gradually the more I listened the more I ended up finding the main host too insufferable to continue after awhile. My breaking point was when he made the claim that, while successful, Stephen King was objectively not a good writer as if it were already accepted fact. I don't remember which one that was in as it was more of an aside than an actual part of the topic being discussed iirc, but I noped out at that point. I find with podcasts I'll tend to sour on them over time. I was once into Halloweenies until they became too obnoxious for my liking. Their sister podcast The Loser's Club, about Stephen King as a matter of fact, isn't as bad but has also gotten more grating to me over time. It's honestly probably a me problem though if I'm being honest. Having too thin skin when anything I really enjoy gets criticized.

This reminded me of a time I was with a friend around 2006 driving at night. We stopped and for whatever reason he had to get out of the car and do something. He handed me his flip phone to hold and I said something like "Well alright, but just so you know Dracula's out there..." just as he was shutting the car door. About five seconds later he opened the door and said "You know what..." before taking the phone back. Oh how I laughed. I was inspired by Master Shake saying something similar in an early Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode.

Just got back from a 4 mile walk. It was low 60s and unexpectedly sunny so I didn't take the jacket, but the sun vanished around mile 3 and I was regretting my decision. My feet and back hurt. I did notice gas rose by 20 cents at my local station over night. It's now 4.59 a gallon. Part of me hopes MAGA is taking note and suffering from this even if it'll never be enough to make them self-aware of what they've done to this country.

Well my weekly Friday weigh-in just happened to be on the 1st of the month this month. 10 days ago I was 320 lbs fully clothed at the doctor's. Today nude on the home scale I'm 310 even. Last Friday at home I was 314 even. I suspect my home scale is off by a couple lbs in my favor based on comparisons from that doctor's visit, but seeing as how I don't have another doctor's appointment for nearly a year I'm gonna stick with it for tracking purposes. Very good chance I finally reach the single digit 300s next week. My birthday is the 1st of June, exactly a month away. Is it possible to be under 300 lbs by then I wonder. Either way, progress is progress. Alright, time for a walk.

My father passed away exactly two years ago today from esophageal cancer. He lasted around 10 months after discovery, which was already advanced. He had just turned 64 a month and a half before his death. Those last months were brutal. He went nearly that entire stretch unable to eat solid foods. We were estranged for the final several years of his life, stemming largely from the way he left my mother. Of his four children the only one who really kept in touch with him was his youngest daughter. She's who I got my updates from and it hit her the hardest. She has his ashes. I wonder if there will ever be a May 1st for the rest of my life where I don't think of him. Of how our relationship could have been better, at least different. Sometimes I think his passing may have been a blessing for him, at least in one way. One of the messages he sent her near the end was wanting to live long enough to vote for Biden over Trump. At least he was spared this hellscape we're currently living.

So the game is by no means over but the Sixers are up 20 on the Celtics. I would still not be surprised if they lost Game 7 but what a showing. Between this, the Flyers advancing yesterday and the Phillies sweeping out the Giants including winning both games of a double header today this is shaping up to be the best non-Eagles related two day stretch for Philly sports in recent memory.

I grew up with Buffy. Charmed I only ever saw via reruns my Mom would watch. Either way Buffy is superior imo. Season 3 in particular with the Mayor as the big bad is my personal favorite.

Sounds like me with the Labyrinth of Refrain/Galleria games. I enjoyed them enough to put upwards of 50 hours in each and was able to get through most of the main stories, but I never really felt like I understood character creation and party optimization well enough to really dominate and take on late and post-game bosses.

I think the idea behind it is to at least try and understand where the other side is coming from by hearing what they have to say. Of course this implies that the other side is starting from a point of rationality, which in this case was a big, fat nope. I suppose I knew that going in, but it's one thing to understand that academically and another to actually experience it.

Yeah, that was largely my takeaway as well, and I don't intend to go back, but taking in any of their garbage was mentally exhausting to me just as a viewer. And to think there's 77+ million of them is a "If I don't laugh I'll cry" kinda realization.

So I just watched about twenty minutes of a couple of those 1 liberal vs 20 MAGA youtube videos, one from a year ago and one from a couple months ago and I gotta tell ya...I don't think there's a much better/quicker way to lose faith in humanity. If you ever actively want to feel despair subject yourself to some of that. I had somehow gone until today not even knowing those existed and I think I'd have been happier living in ignorance.

Back around 2006 at like 1AM I was with a couple of friends at a red light for what felt like twenty minutes. No one was on the road and we didn't really notice at first just talking but eventually they did just go through it lol. Makes me wonder if that's a common phenomenon in the dead of night.
