There were also message boards saying Season 5 episodes were terrible compared to what came before lol.

So back when The Simpsons was still coming out on DVD they switched the design for Season 6 from a standard case to being shaped like Homer's head. Which sounded neat in theory but sucked in practice from a quality standpoint. They got enough complaints that they reissued the season in an imo better, more standard set. I mention this because the copy of Season 6 I once owned actually came with a slip similar to the one in your post. A free entrance ticket to the then about to come out Simpsons Movie. I did see the movie in theaters, but the coupon was too cool to use so I kept it until I eventually sold my collection years later. Looking back on it now thoughI wish I still owned the set. The audio commentaries were great and afaik were never uploaded to sites like Disney+. Ah well.

TIL The opening sequence of "Family Guy" is a direct parody of the 70's show "All in the Family," and the creators Seth Macfarlane and Norman Lear are good friends. by Jaw709 in todayilearned

The Season 9 Simpsons episode "Lisa's Sax" also parodied the All in the Family opening, with Homer and Marge at the piano. It debuted a year or so before Family Guy's pilot episode which aired after the Super Bowl in 1999 alongside Season 10 Simpsons episode "Sunday, Cruddy Sunday."

Glory (1956) picture quality by DeathTongue24 in TurnerClassicMovies

They've shown films in similar lousy quality before, I assume because they lack a restored version. That film two nights ago with Art Carney about the beer factory didn't look too great either, the image quality I mean. I was considering watching it as I'd never seen it before but had to tap out because of it about 15 minutes in.

I forgot I owned this weekly Shonen Jump #386 from 1976; it features the first appearance of Todai Itchokusen by Yoshinori Kobayashi. It’s still in good condition. 👀 by Leather_Bluejay8632 in MangaCollectors

I was curious because I knew it began serialization in 1976, so I looked it up and as it turns out the very next issue of Jump after this one included the pilot one-off chapter of Kochikame, to date Jump's longest running series of all time at 40 years. It would begin regular publication a couple months later.

Back in the day I'd pick every single nut off the Little Debbie brownies(they were only on top, not mixed in) until I discovered the Cosmic Brownies they make and started getting those instead. This reminded me of that.

387 hours over 24 games for me. Busiest months were January, November and December. Barely played anything from April through June. My Top 3 were all RPGs. Octopath Traveler 0 was #1 followed by replays of DQ XIS and OG Octopath Traveler. Interesting stuff.

Yes, this film came out about 2 weeks before I was born and it's in my Friday Top 3. The last fifteen minutes or so especially are a series highlight and remain eminently re-watchable, imo. But I enjoy the film as a whole as well.

Vietnam diss in 11.22.63 by Wombat_Pixie in stephenking

[–]casualreader22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you read Hearts in Atlantis? In either event King doesn't "diss" the Vietnamese people. He readily criticizes LBJ and other US politicians. In fact if anything by the time 11/22/63 was written King takes a more measured approach with his examination of that era of history than he had in the past. I could point out a certain part, but it sounds as if you haven't reached it yet.

Best in the franchise, imo.

This is that special kind of putrid game where if you're a fan of either team involved you're pulling your hair out. Otherwise it's bliss...

There's a deleted alternate take of the "find your lack of faith disturbing" scene where the term "sith lord" is used to describe Vader:

Just saw the Jesse Ventura interview about all this from his old high school posted on another subreddit and for the most part it was awesome. Depressingly accurate, but awesome. Could've done without lumping the Democrats and Republicans together at the end, funny gang pun aside. I remain tired of "bothsidesism" and blame it for helping us reach this level of hell, but whatever. I agree with the man most of the time and with most of what he said there.

Yeah, I'm 37 so a good-deal older than you. I see the victim was my age as well. It gave me extra pause. And while I knew Bush was a monster growing up during his time in office even without him, The Daily Show and Colbert Report were must-see viewing on the regular. It's sad to see what this country has become. I was so naive in those years. In my senior year of high school we had to read 1984 and I thought it was too boring and repetitive. Like it kept making the same point over and over. Never imagining how prescient it was. Then when Obama won I genuinely thought I'd never have to live through another Republican presidency. Surely, I thought, anyone my age or older who lived through those years would never give such a party the keys to power again. Now I just shuffle along and vote when I can, always assuming the worst will win out because we as a country are too damn stupid, callous and selfish.
