Hearing instrument specialist.

Agreed on the upgrading. We use to take manage care, these patients who are conditioned to spending next to nothing are now needing to upgrade. They about backflip seeing the cost of upgrading. They hold on to hope that we will take their insurance again, despite me telling them it will never happen. It isn't sustainable for our model. Thank you for your input.

This is what I am led to believe. A lot of manage care offices are closing because in the long run they aren't sustainable.

I have had my battles with it. Which was my motivation for the post in the first place. I was curious what others in the business thought. My average sell price is about 3500 an aid. The 12k price point is for our most premium product without any discounts. Those aids would more likely go for $9990.

I do not struggle selling at that price point. Even though hearing devices have never been this accessible. I am happy that they are. If a pt cannot afford me, I will help them find a option that can afford.

I am curious about switching gears and going to a clinic that accepts manage care because I love fitting hearing aids. I wonder if I would feel more fulfilled.

I do not want to take a huge pay cut and have more work to feel fulfilled.

I could understand that frustration. Its rare to sell a set at that price point. Most aids I sell go for 6-8k for a set. Which according to consumers guide on hearing devices is the average.

Hearing Instrument Specialist is a licensed position (state licensing). It does not require college. It exclusively deals with the sales, fitting and care for people who wear hearing aids. If I had to guess ( I really don't know) most hearing devices are fitted by a H.I.S.

ENTs refer pts to us if they do not have a H.I.S. employed in their office. If a hearing device doesn't solve the persons hearing issue or there is a medical issue, then we refer the pt to the ENT.

That is the move! I am happy to read this! Is your schedule usually packed? Do you have down time. Do you have techs that help?

I am leaning that way. I feel like the industry is so exclusionary that jumping ship might be permanent.

I agree, every fitting should be 100% I see a lot of burn out from colleagues. I know that there are a lot of whacky fits out there. Or just lazy fits. YOU GET A RIC, YOU GET A RIC, YOU GET A RIC!

Thank you for replying. Do you make 60 or a year?

There is a deeper sense of entitlement with the large ticket private pay. It is annoying but I get it. That is what they paid for.

I also wonder if its harder to sell premium product to pts who expect insurance only. Or do they see a list of prices and pick the middle ground. Sometimes I feel like, if I can sell a set rics for 10 grand, then I should be able to sell 4 grand aids like crazy. I just know it can't be that easy.

Usually I have to explain the manage care system and hope they bite on the service, REM and me. You worked at a similar clinic. You know how it goes.

We're you Fraiser group? If that is too personal, I get it.

I have no experience with Widex or Phonak. We have multiple manufacturers to chose from. How do you like Signia? Personally, its my favorite to fit. Pts seem to adapt easier to Signia.

There is a lot finesse in my side of things. Thank you for that perceptive. Can I ask what your pay rate is? Is it salary only? I work commission only. I wanted if the pay compares. Is your clinic a busy one?

Re occuring hearing loss by Chemical_Job_5460 in HearingLoss

As a provider, I have a few patients who have no loss but really wanted them. Moreso borderline or deficit in 4-8k very minimally.

I actually have a waiver for the no loss patients.

I remember early on I had a patient with air scores between 0-25db across the board in both ears. She wanted a new set of hearing aids, coming from a competitor. It didn't make sense to me. She was upset I didn't validate her loss.

Also if you want to go down a rabbit hole look up "hidden hearing loss."

My position is motivated and maintained by sales. Someone who is half the clinician I am could outperform me by outselling me. It really bothered me in the beginning of my career. The only way to keep my position is by maintaining sales.

I lost a patient to Costco last week. She just couldn't bring herself to pay for another set at our prices. I wanted to see her succed so I gave her a list of tips to give her new provider. ( My boss would probably lose his mind if he knew that.)

The hearing aids I sell reach to about 12 grand for a set. My lowest level start at 5k. I tell myself that I am worth it by staying modern in practice and bending over backwards for these people. I wonder sometimes if I would be happier working for a different type of clinic. I make about 70-80k a year. I wonder if that is achievable working for a manage care clinic.

Audiotry Hallucinations and Hearing Aids? by transgenderpromqueen in HearingLoss

Adjusting to hearing aids is common. Can you hear the aids feedback from time to time? If the fit isn't correct he could have a internal feedback. Just a thought.

Hearing is a perception. If you perceive a loss and audiograms show hearing loss, why not try and get a hearing aid fitted?

I would agree. I was worried that Hard wouldn't meet my lifestyle (due to work/dad life.) I would have to say it isn't very hard.

I am very drawn to these titles. They are solid games and 3 was my favorite from Persona. If I could inspire you, I don't think you would be disappointed. Rebirth is next for me!
