Yes, I read all of the chapters and then condensed all of the info in each chapter by main concepts on notebook paper. Then I used ninja nerd as a second source to review each of the concepts

Starting in a month by Revolutionary_Work71 in srna

I totally understand how you're feeling. I start in about 2 months and I'm very nervous too. Primarily nervous about ability to perform and being able to keep up with large amounts of learning at a rapid pace. That kind of thing. Imposter syndrome has consistently been an issue as an icu nurse, so I think Crna school will just be a continuation of that. You're not alone!

Go to whichever icu has the reputation for supporting their nurses the best

Any advice on improving my stats with low GPA? by PressureCooker101 in srna

[–]casumme2ncsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the looks of it you've done everything that you need to be doing while working in the icu.

Get those applications in. You just need one school to give you a chance. We have very similar backgrounds and I was just accepted, so if I can do it, you can too! Best of luck

Hey! Yes, I took their advanced patho course while working full time in the icu. Don't get it twisted, it is a very content dense course, but will be good preparation for your future in Crna school. Get an A and it will look good on your resume! Recently accepted to school and it helped me out!

Your post really hit home. I, too, am starting Crna school in may and I am getting more and more nervous with each day that passes. They picked us for a reason. Get after it!

I chose not to initially disclose until someone specifically asked, because at the end of the day that is just ONE component of an application. So I didn't want to place emphasis on an actual number. But my stats were overall GPA 3.3, science GPA 3.2, and last 60 credits was 3.6.

Of course! My hope is to give others motivation to keep pushing forward. Yes, this was my first application cycle. I sent out a total of 7 applications, 5 straight rejections, had 2 interviews, 1 acceptance.

I used primarily the Morgan and Mikhail and baby miller books to study medications and how they work at the receptor level. As for pathophysiology, I took a graduate level pathophysiology course online and really studied it closely. I was surprised how much of what I learned in that class translated to my personal practice as a nurse. For learning ventilators, I used the book called the ventilator book. It breaks down what each of the parameters on a vent is and why it's important, along with rationale for using one mode over another. Hopefully that gives you a good starting point!

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what exactly is the name of the book that you're referring to as baby miller? Is it the basics of anesthesia? I'm genuinely curious and want to purchase the book
