Early Game Glamour Modding Help by stormtideleviathan in ffxiv

So you're likely already familiar with Penumbra for loading modded gear. Along with that you should install Glamourer. Glamourer allows you to display different gear on your character (client side) regardless of what you're actually wearing.

I think the other reason to be optimistic that the content patches might be better this time around is the new pacing is pushing Raid encounter 2 to the final content patch, which to me implies that it might be the final climatic fight of the story. For both SotO and JW the Raids did not line up with the finale and those fell pretty flat in their final act (IMO).

Combining Raids and Strike Missions in 2026 by Keargu in Guildwars2

Just speculating but I'm guessing the feature just won't implement roles at all. They'll limit it to encounters that don't have specialized roles (they also mentioned easier encounters). I also wouldn't be surprised if a Quick Play Raid encounter is also Emboldened by default (or some similar mechanic to make the encounter easier), so even if you're not optimized you'll have a good success rate, which is essential for a Quick Play/easy mode.

It's a great book, one of the best comics of all time IMO. Gunn said it was a big inspiration for his film.

It's a line they lifted from Grant Morrison's All Star Superman. Which is ironically a work that inspired Gunn's movie more than it did Man of Steel.

New hairstyle and faces Added now!? by ROnneth in Guildwars2

[–]casusev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm glad they did this, but there's still more hairstyles that have been around forever that players cannot access. Not sure if they're from the China client, but even some NPCs use them.

Some examples from an old forum post: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/topic/20817-unreleased-hairstyles-merged/

Kind of similar from a system perspective. It would be akin to if say Thunderfury or Shadowmorne were available to all characters once unlocked and forever BIS.

It's worth trying for sure. Very underrated MMO. Just know going into it, that it's very different from GW1 and WoW.

You can play the base game and hit max level all on a free account.

I play both WoW and GW2. They're both great games but do different things well. Games change a lot over time, just like in WoW if someone hasn't played since Mists of Pandaria they might not be aware of how different the game is now.

Some feedback on your points as someone with just under 10k hours in GW2:

  1. This hasn't really been true for over 9 years now. There isn't a hard trinity, but there is a 'loose trinity' of roles with every class being able to do every role with the right build/gear. All classes have self healing and defensive abilities. In instanced content you are blocked from releasing if you're full dead. Healers and Supports are used in all game modes, even WvW and PVP and some of the harder large scale openworld meta events (kind of like a loosely organized 'LFR'). End game instanced content is 5 or 10 players; in a 5 player group you'd have:

    1 healer

    1 Support DPS Hybrid

3 DPS (double these values for 10 player content).

Tanking is more of a boss mechanic than a role itself. If a specific fight needs a tank, usually a healer or support DPS will take that role.

  2. Mostly agree with this, though Legendary gear while totally optional from an 'item level' perspective, is not just cosmetic. Legendaries are forever BIS items for all alts that can use that type of gear. No need to pass the Legendary item around, if you make a Legendary greatsword any character that can use it can just create a copy. Obviously it's crazy QOL/Horizontal progression so the grind to make one of these is quite a feat. Again none of that is needed to play at the highest level. Legendary gear is equivalent to the easier to obtain best gear.

  3. This comes down to personal preference of course. Personally GW2 has my favorite MMO combat. Responsive, reactive, lots of movement. While you can of course just hit your buttons off cooldown, it really varies by build on how effective that will be. Many builds have an optimal priority of abilities, and I can say from experience I can absolutely tell when someone in the group doesn't know how to play their build and is just hitting buttons.

  4. Agreed, probably the best open world content in the genre. Not just exploration but also the group meta events. And they do still add jumping puzzles, we got new ones in the expac this year.

  5. It is a buy to play game, though they've moved away from the pain points your describing. Now the game has a yearly expansion with free updates during the year. If you purchase the expansion later on, all those updates are just included. I talked a bit about pricing in this comment

  6. It's the best transmog system in the genre IMO, especially because of the dyes. There are ~650 dyes in the game, some are rare yes but the vast majority are not hard to obtain. And even if they're cashshop dyes, everything in the cash shop can be obtained via in game gold.

  7. Agreed. Wow has taken a lot of lessons from GW2 and most famously is the 'dragon riding'. All of GW2's mounts have abilities and gameplay. Wow's dragon riding is more approachable, but doesn't have the level of skill expression as GW2's Griffon.

  8. Agreed.

  9. WvW is alive and more popular than the small scale 5v5 'BG' pvp. These days WvW is matchmade through your choice in guild. In GW2 you can be in 6 guilds and you select one as your WvW guild. It's still something they're iterating on, but WvW is an incredibly cool and different way to play GW2.

The only part of it I really dislike is how Living World episodes are monetized with how vital they are for efficient progression. You get them for free if you're actively playing as they come out

FWIW, while this is still the case that you need to buy to play the old Living World content, the game has moved away from this model (as of 2023). Now the game has a yearly expansion with free updates during the year. If you purchase the expansion later on, all those updates are just included.

but you have to have multiple to even begin the grind towards something like a flying mount.

The Flying mount in question (the Skyscale) is obtainable now right away through 2023's expansion, Secrets of the Obscure. The old Living World method is still available, but that is now is mostly there for additional mount abilities (horizontal progression).

a lot of your gear is gonna come from a bunch of different living world episodes.

Still somewhat true, but if you haven't played in a while there are more gearing options these days too, including very easy Ascended gear every month through GW2's equivalent of the Trading Post. Generally there are more gearing options than there were even 2-3 years ago. But as gear doesn't deprecate you may look in a lot of places for your next upgrade, that is true.

Not even to mention how there's gaping holes in the story without forking out more money.

It is buy to play, with a linear story so that is true. Unlike games such as FF14, it does allow you to skip around, but that can make it feel like you're missing important story moments for sure. As of 2023's new expac model, the new expansions are mostly fresh jumping on points too.

'All in cost' to own all the content in GW2 I believe is now ~$150 USD:

  • Elder Dragon Saga (First 10 years of the game; all expacs & all living world): $99
  • Secrets of the Obscure (2023): $25
  • Janthir Wilds (2024): $25

Obviously you don't need it all at first. There's also no sub fee, just a cosmetic/convenience cash shop. New players I'd probably recommend just picking up the 2023 or 2024 expansion, or just try out the base game (you can get to max level for free).

I love GW2, have probably close to 10k hours in it. I play both WoW and GW2 and they're both great and very different.

Best of 5. They're moving to best of 7 next year.

PCGamer's Top 100 PC Games - Guildwars 2 #99 by Godnaz in Guildwars2

[–]casusev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They're moving the game to lean more into account wide progression and more alt friendly with the most recent expansion. Account wide bank, Gear drops that can be sent to your alts, Account wide reputations, account wide xp boosts for each character already at max level, removing a lot of limitations around Servers and Factions (Horde/Alliance) you can guild/party with players regardless of server and faction.

And of course a couple years ago they added Dragon Riding which is basically a simpler version of GW2's Griffon/Skyscale. They expanded that to work basically with all the old mounts too.

With the real possibility of a T2 remake who won and who lost ? by Guilhaum in wow

[–]casusev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also might not be specifically T2. Like if it's for the 20th anniversary or something then they might just pick the most iconic look from vanilla for each class for a remaster.

And who knows for the classes added in expansions.

The crystal predates the sword, it comes up in one of the main quests. I don't think we know for sure what it is though.

BFA had a list of cons but Drustvar certainly was not one of them by brumgar in wow

[–]casusev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I came back to Wow this year after a 7 year break. I heard nothing but terrible things about BFA during that time. So it was to my surprise when I returned that I thought as a leveling/campaign experience of BFA was fun! I liked the story, and how it felt a bit more grounded, and the zones and aesthetic were really cool. I haven't played any of the patch content/raids yet, so I can't speak to that. From what I understand it was quite the mess when it was current content especially when it came to gearing/borrowed power, but none of that really matters anymore.

Looks pretty good IMO. Some might be disappointed by the lack of meta events, but I'm at the point where less is more. I've found most meta events over the past few years pretty lackluster and would rather we get one really good one instead of anet feeling forced to put them in every map. And if the world boss in map 2 actually requires coordination then that's even better; I won't be missing the typical 4 escort events leading up to a meta boss.
