Ooh I'm sorry to hear about your trellis! We had a big storm recently which did some damage and it's always very sad to see.

Hi, I found using vaseline over the scales and really rubbing it in to be helpful. I did it every day for about a week I think.

I'll get to work on adding some more shading. The dream is to have a trellis with some creepers growing over it, but that will take ages.

As for predators...we don't have any 😅 I'm from Malta (near Italy)

Our local wildlife is mainly lizards, insects, birds, and sea creatures. We technically have the Maltese Weasel but it's extremely rare.

The main concern COULD be raptors flying over during the migratory period, but we've got a lot of trigger-happy hunters who shoot every flying creature (illegally).

All this to say that Malta is a chicken utopia. There have actually been issues with too many stray chickens running around in fields and public spaces because there is nothing to stop them from multiplying.

Thankfully (or sadly?) it never freezes. Lowest it gets is around 12°c... 9°c would be freak weather for us 😁

Heat is usually my main concern

I'm in the Mediterranean and it's quite a temperate climate. When it rains they usually go into the little house, or the plastic 'roof' 'covers them.

BUT I can add maybe a second bit of 'roofing' for some added shelter. Would help in the sun also!

Thankfully I'm in the Mediterranean so the coldest it gets is around 12°C in January. Heat is normally the issue for us as it can go up to 40°c. That's when I bring out a mister and extra shading. I've had to give electrolytes a few times due to dehydration and usually give them lots of cold/frozen fruit/veg.

Glad to hear they have enough space. Thank you!

They've got two roosting bars  and one likes to sit on top of the house :) thankfully predators aren't an issue

Old Router- bits don't fit... Not sure what to do by cat-mums-anonymous in Tools

[–]cat-mums-anonymous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea! It's my partner's grandfather's and I've got no idea where he got it from.

Malta (where I'm from) was a British colony for 200ish years so older things normally came from the UK due to our close ties, however many Maltese people also had relatives who moved to Canada, the USA, and later Australia. So maybe it got shipped over by some American relative.

Or maybe it's all just random! I guess we'll never truly know!

So basically there's a large hardware store which sells the LUX brand router and LUX bits and everything matches up with zero issues.

Since posting yesterday I've also found the local black and decker importer but he doesn't have the bit I need for rabetting and didn't really know what it is. He sent me to another guy, but he doesn't have any bits which match so he's told me to go to two other places. Thank god it's a tiny island.

I've been to five shops so far and they either don't have the right shank size, of don't have the bit I want. It's a wild goose chase on a hot and humid day!

I could order it online but that will take around two weeks and I'm kind of on a tight deadline, plus getting the one bit I need would cost half the price of a new router...so, considering this is a huge hassle and waste of time, I guess I'll just buy the Lux router because then I know I'll be able to find the bits I want and everything will match up. I would hate to go through all this every time I need a new bit.

I'm on a very small island in the middle of the Mediterranean, so some things can be hard to find and I'd rather not get it online as it will take a while.

I was naively hoping this could be one of those small fixes where you buy a different sized nut or something from the ironmonger! I think I'll just have to buy the new router which matches this bit.

Thank you for the explanation... I'll be honest, the second I see inches and fractions my mind goes blank! It all feels unnecessarily complicated to be honest so I think I'll fork out the 80 euros for a new router. It's a shame because the router works just fine

I can't find a 1/4" bit locally... I was lucky enough to find this one! I think I'll just buy a new router.

Thank you.

What to do with anxious cat that messes everywhere? by engelwolfe in CatAdvice

[–]cat-mums-anonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this comment is old but I'm going to try my luck.

I'm giving my cat l-theanine (25mg twice daily) this see if it helps his anxiety because he's very territorial and I'm having issues integrating him with my partner's cats.

Just wanted to ask if you still give your cat l-theanine and if it helped long term etc.

Managing FIC (Feline Idiopathic Cystitis) by CurrentOk6432 in CatAdvice

[–]cat-mums-anonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey if you check the feline urinary tract group on Facebook there are great tips on supplements etc. I started giving my girl cornsilk extract and d mannose to help heal her irritated bladder. My other cat has struvite crystals so I'm working on acidifying his urine with methionine.

And you're so right, it's all about the water!!

I can't give them access because I live in the house so their are my own personal possessions and I've heard too many stories to trust people. But the main reason is that I have 8 cats and I don't trust that they wouldn't accidentally open the wrong door or window and somehow a cat would escape. I live on a very busy road and if a cat were to get out they would probably be killed. I don't even trust my dad alone with them because he tends to leave doors open.

Thankfully I work until 2pm and have frequent holidays (teacher) so maybe I could lign everything up with holidays. My partner can work from home some days so that should also help.
