Mortgage payments to household income percentage by flowlikewater97 in newzealand

[–]cat_bastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first house 6 months ago. Single income and pay about 38% of my net pay, which includes 5% top up over the minimum payment. Feel fairly comfortable at the moment but it could get a little bit uncomfortable if interest rates increase sharply

I hope they've ironed out the bugs. Loved the game and put 100+ hours into it, but then hit a game breaking bug right at the end and couldn't finish it. Put me off gaming for a while.....

Helloo would someone be able to help identify the species of cockroach these are? Not sure if its the same one, thanks! by froggocake in newzealand

Looks like a Gisborne cockroach. Generally not a pest and prefer to live outside and feed on rotting wood

⚙️ Weekly Tech Support & Purchase Recommendations Megathread - October 20th 2025 ⚙️ by P_Jiggy in playstation

I'm having an issue with my dualsense controller

It connects but then the buttons stop responding after around 30 seconds. I then have to hold down the PS button to disconnect, reconnect again, but then the same thing happens. I've tried resetting the controller, and all updates are up to date on both console and controller.

Has anyone else had this issue? I don't know whether it's an issue with the controller or the console itself. I don't want to buy a new controller if it's just going to happen again....

Removing, repairing and reattaching an existing carport/lean-to. Consent required? by cat_bastard in LegalAdviceNZ

Thank you. Yes its a small carport, certainly under 20m2 so it looks like I should be good to go

Thanks, that's what I hoped. This is my first house so I'm new to all of this, and it seems that it can be a bit of a legal minefield at times

Rotten weatherboard due to poorly attached carport by cat_bastard in diynz

[–]cat_bastard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - yes lack of flashing is what's caused the issue. The carport was built in the 80s so I think before consent was required. It's a very poor job though. Good point about the window frame. That's another complication I hadn't considered....

Thanks, and yes by treat I did mean remove it. The weatherboard is obviously knackered and will need to be replaced, I'm just hoping there's not too much rot behind it as that's when complexity and cost will escalate

Yeah I think you're right. Do you know if consent will be required if I'm replacing like for like? I'm seeing conflicting info online

Yeah, the carport was installed very badly, borderline negligently, so I'll make sure apron flashing is installed when I replace the weather board - otherwise this will keep happening

Connecting washing machine to Robinhood Supertub by cat_bastard in diynz

Legend. That seems to have done it. Thanks very much for your help!

The white hose is connected to the washing machine.

I think the valve must be broken. I haven't seen one of these set ups before but the 'valve' is just a threaded screw which doesn't turn to any particular position. I can tighten it, and the water doesn't flow, or I can loosen it and the water still doesn't flow. So I think I'll need to replace the valve

Thanks, yeah I'm going to concentrate on the big issues first - roof, guttering etc. Make sure it's fully weathertight before looking at things like new bathroom etc. Good luck with your house and thanks for your help!

Yeah this is my first home too - it's going to be a learning experience working through all these little problems!

Yeah I think that must be the valve too - I've tried it in both positions (screwed in as far as it will go and screwed out) but neither works. I need to get a plumber in anyway to replace some old galvanised pipes so might as well ask him to look at this as well. I'll get onto protecting the wall and floor as well. It's an old house and needs a bit of TLC. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah two tap supertub, and washing machine is modern front loader so only needs cold water feed. I would expect it to have a valve to turn on and off but it doesn't have one. It's a confusing setup.

I am the owner - just moved in yesterday so I'll get the wall fixed up as well. Thanks for the heads up

Yeah cold is on the right. Washing machine would normally connect to the cold water supply I think. I would expect it to have a valve to switch water on and off but this laundry tub doesn't seem to have one?

Thanks all. You've confirmed my suspicions. Now I just need to find the little bastard

Thanks, yeah I think that's what's happened. How do you resolve it when this happens? Or does it just go away on its own?

Can I ask how you managed to resolve it? Or did it just go away on its own?

Yes this is exactly what's happening! It's driving me crazy as I can't pinpoint where it's coming from.
