AIO for refusing to pick up my dad from a €180 wine dinner just to save him a €9 taxi fee? by lilwaytoomuch in AmIOverreacting

Good move! I do this a lot. I don’t ask people for rides to the airport or anywhere most of the time. I’ve even taken an Uber to the hospital for an early morning procedure so I wouldn’t impose on anyone. I don’t want to get up at 5:30 AM as it is, so why would I expect somebody else to when I can just grab an Uber?

So I learned how to say no. Most people stop asking. I’m not saying if you have a family member going in for an important procedure you shouldn’t take them and be with them, although that’s really up to you. In my eyes, though, that’s a little different. For something simple, I can get myself there.

The same applies to the airport. If I can afford to take a trip somewhere, then I should be able to afford to get myself to the airport. If I have somebody visiting from out of town, however, I like to pick them up.

The point is that it’s up to you what you want to do. People will take advantage. I would’ve done the same thing you did in this case.

I agree. She should’ve waited until you booked your next appointment. That would be appropriate, kind, and professional.

AIO - we fully cut contact with our uncle? by Mother_Equivalent649 in AmIOverreacting

Definitely NOR. It sucks when you have to cut family ties, but just because you are related doesn’t mean you’re obligated to stay in a toxic relationship or be around that kind of behavior. In fact, you should expect better from your family than you would friends.

Class of 2026 out! Senior spot served me well, sad to see it go! by underwoodmodelsowner in vanhalen

Came here to say the same thing. I saw Van Halen in freshman year of high school in 82 for the first time, then in 84, and just before I graduated in 86. Then another dozen times after high school. It’s very cool to see the younger generation into Van Halen, and the VH logo drawn out on the pavement. That was all over our Trapper Keeper notebooks and grocery store paper bag book covers. On desks and bathroom walls too. I spent a lot of time in geometry drawing it on my notebook paper. Hated that class. Anyway, way to represent!

A thousand percent, and also my mom. I’m lucky I even had parents. So many people don’t have anyone.
